     THIS MUST BE WHAT HAPPINESS FEELS LIKE – getting to wander around , not having to worry about battling heartless or fighting the darkness. it was great , wonderful really to be spending time doing… nothing. A DAY OFF. the last time he had this opportunity he spent it simply WATCHING other teenagers with their friends , WISHING he could be like them. &. now here he was , not just watching , but now AMONG them , &. this time with a friend of his own.

     they weren’t in the town for any particular reason , other than that they were curious to see if anything about the town had changed while they were in sora’s heart ( but he wasn’t thinking about that right now , that thought could come some other time ). they’d passed by the different shops that roxas had been in before – or at least , in the virtual town he’d been to those places. that bittersweet feeling of both nostalgia &. LOSS couldn’t hit so hard , though , since he was distracted. xion – maybe out of curiosity or maybe because she KNEW he may get upset otherwise – had asked him to tell her stories about the shops , the people in the town , or anything else he could think of. so he did.

     he was rambling , probably for what was much too long of a time , until they reached a certain familiar place. gazing up at the large window to what had once been his own ( fictional ) room , roxas stopped in the middle of the story about the missing necklace from the jewelry store. he couldn’t see inside – couldn’t tell if anyone was living there currently or if the virtual world had placed him in an empty house on purpose.

     out of nowhere , he feels a warm &. comforting presence gently holding his hand. he turns his head to face her , but her eyes are still looking up at the window. she must’ve figured it out – not that it would’ve been hard to guess anyway.

     ❝ thanks. ❞ he breaks the silence that he had brought upon them with just that one word. but he knows that she knows what he meant. it wasn’t just a thank you for comforting him , it was also for listening to his thoughts , coming here with him , &. for always being there for him.

     without saying anything in return , she turns her head back to him , finally catching his gaze with a soft smile on her face. they’re ready to move on from this place – HE’S ready to move on.

A few things of note:

Ignoring Mickey, Donald, Chirithy, and KH1 Sora, Ephemer is the shortest, followed by Kairi, Xion, & Namine in a 3-way tie, then young Eraqus

Sora, Roxas, Ven, Vanitas, and Dark Riku are all just about the same height. Repliku is very slightly taller due to his platform shoes (lmao)

Aeleus is the tallest, followed by Marluxia, then an approximate tie between Vexen, Ansem SoD, and Xemnas

Terra is second only to Axel in height among the guardians of light, but Terranort ranks among the shortest of Org 13

     HE DIDN’T KNOW WHY SHE WAS HERE – was she an ILLUSION or was she real? his head feels like it’s being bombarded with BRICKS , aching desperately trying to remember her name – remember who she was. there was something so familiar about that smile. about that look in her eyes , deep &. blue as the sky– no , the SEA. like a wave crashing on the sand , leaving beautiful seashells in its wake.

     ❝ you’re… ❞ it’s on the tip of his tongue now. remember. remember. remember her , remember who you were before. the organization. missions. axel. ice cream. clock tower. xion. XION. ❝ xion? ❞ everything comes flooding back to him now – she was ( is ) his best friend. he would’ve done anything to keep her safe &. to keep them together. but he couldn’t.

     ❝ we’re dead? ❞ he remembers seeing sora – asleep , missing MEMORIES scattered in the wind. he’d died for him , hadn’t he? &. xion had done the same. he REMEMBERED now. he feels like crying , tears of anger , anguish , &. PAIN , but nothing comes. a nobody couldn’t feel anything , right? even if he was in sora’s heart now.

     he watches her mouth move before he hears the ghost-like sound of her words. ❛ there was nothing more you could have done.❜ &. just like that she’s silent again , still staring at him with that tragic look in her eyes.

     ❝ we could’ve run away.❞ the words come out in rapid succession , as if they’ll remain unspoken if he doesn’t speak quickly. ❝ i don’t know where we could’ve gone but- ❞ no.she was right. there was nothing else he could have possibly done to SAVE her. they would’ve been found. either turned into dusks by the organization or KILLED by the man in the black coat. they couldn’t have changed their FATE. they would’ve wound up here sooner or later – not dead but not truly existing either. they’d be stuck here for who knows how long , maybe forever.
