Brooklyn

He returned her hug smiling and laughing, her excitement infectious. He still hadn’t found Q yet but it was just a matter of time. “I’m not sure where he is. It shouldn’t take too long to spot him though. He’s a hard guy to miss.”

 “Oh yeah?” She arched a brow, looking around as well as if she’s seen the guy before. In truth, Brooklyn was excited to meet him and of course, approve of the man that had given her good friend a nice pair of heart eyes. “So would he mind if I steal his date away until he reappears?”

“It’s lovely, honestly. Wish we still lived in a time where parties like these were commonplace.” There were too many downsides to living in the past for Rhett to consider it seriously, but the thought is nice.

“I’m Rhett, by the way!” He calls, over the music, over the people around them having a good - he hopes - time.

Brooklyn, being the big history buff that she was, could not agree more.  The parties were beautiful but the time was not. It was a different type of intolerance back then which meant she wouldn’t be seen dancing with someone like her present company just because of the color of her skin. “I agree. Well, I’m a huge fan of the fashion, the literature. The history too but it was an awful time anyway.” She chuckled softly and swayed her hips to the music.

            he spotted her from afar —- the teacher from the coffee shop they both liked to go to.  the event was open to the public , but by the looks of it many civilians did not enjoy anything having to do with the gangs.  he never pegged her to be associated in any way , but maybe he was wrong.  she did not seem to be talking to anyone and neither was he,  he might as well speak to someone he fairly enjoyed rather than watch everyone’s every move.  he catches up to a waiter and removes to glasses from his tray.  he is careful not to spill the drinks as he made his way next to her.  he came up from behind her , stood by her side as he handed her one of the glasses , “ never pegged you for someone who would come to these things. ”

Jonah laughs sheepishly and rubs the back of his neck, his face turning a little pink at the compliment. “Thanks. I think she is. I mean, she isn’t happy to be here rather than with her siblings but I think she’s having an okay time at the very least. Alcohol helps.” He shrugs his shoulders and then holds out his hand. “I believe you promised me a dance?”

“I get that but it must be nice to have some time off and it’s just the two of you tonight so I say enjoy it to the fullest. Both of you deserve it.” She chuckles, nodding at the mention of alcohol. “I’m not much of a drinker but I think tonight will be a first for me.” Brooklyn takes her friend’s hand in hers and smiled. “Ah, yes. I sure did. Thank you for remembering.” She follows him to the dance floor and then places her hands on his shoulders. “Gosh, J. It’s been so long since we’ve danced, huh?”

the raven-haired woman is practically beaming as she steps away from the bar, two ( very expensive ) drinks in hand and a look of satisfaction on her face. walking back to brooklyn, she greets her best friend with a mischievous grin, handing out one of the drinks. ❝ all i had to do was bat my eyelashes for less than ten seconds. ❞ she hadn’t even been aiming for most expensive, but how could she deny such generosity? ❝ it was almost too easy. ❞ // @ofsugarandspicee

Brooklyn is already a little tipsy and the fact that she rarely gets drunk is showing as she’s really grooving to the music now. When her best friend comes back with a drink, she beams at the sight and takes the glass from her with a smile. “I’m not surprised. They were probably shook someone so gorgeous was real.” She laughed softly and took a sip of the amber liquid. “Mm. You’re my favorite. Teach me your ways, master Yoda.”

he reached up, finger tapping his own chin as if he was deep in thoughts before he laughed, shaking his head. ❝ it’s not. ❞ he confirmed with a hum. ❝ i just don’t like dressing up fancy. ❞ he pulled a face, at least he had been able to get away without wearing a jacket. ❝ i repeat, so unfair. ❞ in all honesty, atlas was just pulling her leg because he would have agreed anyways, there weren’t many people he genuinely cared for but brooklyn was one of those. ❝ wait, what‒ ❞ he looked at her with his brows furrowed the moment they were on the dance floor. ❝ did this just turn into a whole dancing lesson? ❞ 

He reflexively shook his head at the comparison. “Gatsby? Heck no! Are you kidding? He wouldn’t be caught dead in something as shabby as this. Besides, I was going for Carraway!” He laughed heartily before giving her a little twirl. “But you, you put Daisy Buchanan to shame!” 

“yes of course! how was your holiday? i hope it went well.” she smiled pulling back from the girl. she did a twirl and waved her off shaking her head, “oh please. have you seen yourself?” she questioned. “you’re going to knock them all dead. definitely take someone home tonight!” she teased. 

kasha was delighted to have run into brooklyn again. the two having hit it off the first time they met. she squealed seeing her across the room and practically charging her to wrap her arms around her neck. “hello beautiful girl! it has been forever and a day.” she gasped pulling back with a huge smile. “lets get a drink and get this party started!” she cheered doing a shimmy as she grabbed her hand and pulled her to the bar. @ofsugarandspicee

❝ only four songs? ❞ he let out an over-exagerated sigh. ❝ and here i thought i was getting close to the most songs skipped world record. ❞ more than obvious that he wasn’t being serious, far from it. ❝ that- ❞ he paused, long enough to make a vague gesture in front of her face. ❝ it’s highly unfair. considering you have the whole thing mastered to a tee. ❞ he chuckled, not able to stop his smile. ❝ fine. just this one though. and i’ll let you know i have two left feet. ❞   

‘  YEAH, YEAH, YEAH,  ’  she brushes the compliment off  with a wave of her hand  (  however deserving  )  just like she does all others. she can count on one hand the amount of times she’s  l i n g e r e d  in a bathroom to have some girl talk since she’d swindled a diploma out of valdez high but she lingers all the same, something about the curious look in the girl’s eye drawing her in.  ‘  lovely  ?  well  ──  i guess there’s two kinds of people.  ’ 

“You don’t think so?” Brooklyn applies the foundation powder onto her nose and then shuts her compact mirror before sliding it back into her clutch. While it’s nice inside, it’s even nicer out here where she could at least take a bit of a breather. “I’m pleasantly surprised with the turn out. Especially after well, you know.” Meaning the lockdown. Brooklyn looks up at the other. “My name is Brooklyn by the way. What’s yours?”

jonah sees brooklyn before she sees him and he takes the opportunity to weave through people so he could step up behind her, lean down, and whisper in her ear. “you weren’t kidding when you said you took inspiration from princess tiana.” he grinned when she swung around and he took a step back. “you look stunning, b.” @ofsugarandspicee

There were so many people crowded into the casino it was a wonder anybody found anybody in here. Evan breathed a sigh of relief when he finally saw someone he recognized. He trotted over to her smiling happily until he actually got a look at her. He whistled in appreciation. “Wow! Brooklyn you look amazing!”

It wouldn’t be a party without dancing, of course. That was an unwritten rule somewhere. Groups of not-exactly-sober people always had to dance.

So it’s no surprise when Rhett scans the crowd for someone who looks even halfway interested, extending a hand to them, all Southern charm and bad decisions just waiting to happen.

“Would you care to share this dance?” It isn’t quite a slow song, but it’s close enough to count.

This was her kind of party. It had been so long since Brooklyn gave herself the chance to let loose. Always too wrapped up with work, she hardly found the time for this. Dancing was easily one of her favorite past times and it showed as she hit the dance floor continuously with friends. 

When someone extended their hand toward her, she looked up at the other with a smile, taking his offer by placing her hand in his. “Of course.” She followed him to a spot where they could dace comfortably and Brooklyn began swaying to the music. “This is so great, isn’t it? What a nice little event!”
