❛ REVOLUTIONARY.

     her father’s in a meeting, and leia stands in a nearby hall, waiting for his return. she is the princess of alderaan, bail and breha’s PRIDE AND JOY. once an impatient child, she considers herself much more level-headed now. 

     footsteps. one hand drifts to her side as she approaches the hall intersection. ( these are DANGEROUS times. ) peeking around the corner, she’s nearly knocks into the woman passing by. 

                   “ oh! sorry. ” leia smooths the fabric of her dress. “ there’s a closed meeting in this area. do you need something? ”

       leia spots rey next to finn - her friend, the stormtrooper who ran. neither of them were raised for rebellion the way leia was. neither of them had a duty to fight for freedom. but they still chose to build something when the galaxy was torn apart. ( when her universe was broken. ) general organa, feeling not much like a general and even less like an organa, takes a breath and clears her throat. ( keep going. )

       “ you should rest. ”

           they’re too nice to call him flimsi—pusher. or at least, they’re kind enough to not say it to his face. finn appreciates that. appreciates the lack of name-calling in general, to be honest. it’s been weeks. where he was once restricted to his cot, he is now mobile, for longer hours at a time and doctor kalonia, please— m’keeping up with my physical therapy. but she says a little longer, she tells him not yet.

                                           finn’s not used to feeling so useless.

           ❝general organa, ma’am?❞ the datapad in hand is his cover but he knocks in respect all the same. ❝can i come in?❞

      she’s sorting reports again. a familiar task, rooted in her days as a young rebel. ( get up. chase the dreams away with data, with words, with problems you have to solve. ) too much information travels through the base each day - rumors about first order operations, pleas for help from planets terrorized by pirates after the destruction of hosnian prime, codes from agents on the run - but it’s too little at the same time. whispers, scattered data that rarely forms a cohesive pattern, questions from unknown sources ( is this one a trap? is that one? ). their intelligence network is fracturing. 

            the knock breaks the intensity of leia’s focus. the voice is finn’s.

     her eyes are soft, hands clasped in front. leia is far too war weary, and yet her eyes sparkle with an unforgotten kindness.
