NOT GOOD ENOUGH

“I don’t think this is a good idea.”

“Hey” Kira said to him as she approached him, her tone soft as she moved to sit besides him. Everything had happened so fast, one moment they were close to getting away from WICKED and the other one they were fighting WICKED, and they have taken Minho to do God knows what to him. She sat beside him in silence for a moment before she decided to break it. “I can’t believe how we were fine and the other moment everything got shucked…” she muttered with a frown, playing with her fingers nervously. “We need to do something. We need to get Minho back…” she whispered quietly.

His head snapped up to look at her. He felt more guilt washing over him as he listened to her talk. “We’re going to get him back. Minho is not dying at the hands of WICKED.”

“—- how did you know I’d be here?”

“Oh yes, and I see yourself preventing that from happening by your strong amount of self-control” She teased, trying to swat his hand to stop him from eating more of her brownies and ice cream. “Get your own!”

“Well, but they changed their mind in the end!”  Rachel didn’t really want to get into why they  might not have accepted Kurt at first. It was a  prickly subject. “I don’t. I think it’s perfect.  You’ll be perfect. Really.”

Nerves were something most people wouldn’t associate with Blaine. After all, he looked confident on stage. But behind the bright smile was someone who was always worried that he wasn’t performing it well enough. After the first performance of West Side Story he’d stayed for a while practising that one turn he’d messed up before Kurt had taken him home.

“Thanks, Rach.” He smiled taking a deep breath. “I’m ready to go. Ish.”

Mimicking his expression, she nodded. “Great. Keep Casey updated as well, otherwise he’ll point another gun at you.” It was no secret that Sarah felt connected to Ellie. No one had ever accepted Sarah as quickly or as warmly as Ellie did. She wouldn’t dare take Ellie’s kindness for granted but at the end of the day – this was still a mission. It wasn’t wise to get this close to anyone. Especially since there was a good chance that Sarah would be leaving once the mission was over. “Is there anything I should bring to Mother’s Day? Dessert?”

· · · · ·“Look, I don’t know exactly what you have planned, but I promise you this thing is not going to wait around until you figure things out. Alright?”·

“Blaine. You’re a star. They’d be idiots not to have you.  I promise Carmen will be positively dazzled by your  stage presence and your voice.”

“They turned Kurt away!” A nervous hand moves to check his hair. “You think so? You don’t think my song choice is wrong?”

“Made any progress? I think everyone’s about ready to tear their hair out over this one. Myself included.”

    “It’s called being a bitch, Tracy Turnblad. Oh !! By the way I forgot to mention.. I didn’t want to say it in front of everyone else but your crazy gel is stinking up this entire room. I figured you’d never given a thought to cutting back on the gel since without it reveals a bush of pubes that I guess would only turn on the one and only, lady gay. But I thought I’d just give you a little input.”

“Bullshit!” Maya shouted at him. Her hands clenching into fists. She stood and stormed up to him. She only came up to his shoulder in height, so Barry had about a foot on her. But Maya didn’t care at the moment as she shouted at him. She was too angry-furious and hurt to care . “Because if you had wanted to, you would’ve told me! Don’t you think me knowing would make me safer?”

She shook her head and backed away, suddenly feeling the need to create  some space between them.  She sat back down on the couch. She would’ve left if it wasn’t for the headache or the fact that he could catch her if he wanted. She shut her eyes and laid back on her pillow. “Please just leave me alone.” She sighed, the anger slowly leaving her, only to be replaced by fatigue. She swiped at her eyes, before shutting them. 

Barry could understand why she was angry. He would have been angry too if she had been hiding such a secret from him. And yet he couldn’t have told her. She now was in danger because she knew his true identity. “No. It wouldn’t. If you’d known then someone can hurt you.” He refused to let anyone get hurt because of him.

“Oh, no. Just go ahead and do your thing.  I’ll be here. Both quiet and supportive.”

"Do you think I’ll get accepted? I mean, NYADA only accepts nineteen people a year. Maybe I should just go.”

The blonde sighed, tilting her head to the side slightly. She needed to be professional – to push her own feelings aside and maintain their cover. “I’ll be there,” she said reluctantly with a weak smile. Sarah could have never predicted that it would be this exhausting to continue their cover relationship. None of her other assignments were this difficult. “—- is that all?”

“How?” Maya asked as she stared at him, recoiling back as if she had been sucker-punched. 

She stared at his face. Then the mask in his hand. A pit had started to form in her stomach…A combination of hurt and anger. She sat down slowly and looked up at him. “I-I thought you trusted me…” Because if he had, he would’ve told her.

As she uttered those words, her mind wandered back to how she finally realized she loved Barry. In some form she had always know because he was that constant. But this was the defining moment. She had been seventeen and had been freaking out because she didn’t get anything in Physics and her first test was the next day. So she called Barry intending to have him talk her through it over the phone. But he had surprised her by driving up to New York and cramming with her all night. Then the next day,  he had taken her to a good luck breakfast, before driving her to school. Then he drove back to Central City to go to his own school.

“The lightning bolt.” He hated the look on her face. Hated how she already was showing the betrayal he knew she would feel. How could she not? He’d been keeping secrets and those secrets were freaking huge. “I do! I do. I didn’t want to put you in danger. This, the Flash, can get people killed.” He’d seen it happen.

“Whatever you say, lady.”
