“I’ll tell you when you get here,” Garfield said, shaking his head despite knowing she couldn’t see him. He took a deep, shuddering breath to try and calm himself. “I’ll meet you in the school library.” He hung up. 

Maya climbed out of her window, then headed for the subway. She was worried. Gar didn’t sound normal on the phone. Pushing her legs harder, she tried to hurry. Finally sitting on the subway, she rested her head in her hands. Maya got off on her stop ten minutes later. “Hey,” her voice was soft when she finally spotted him five minutes later.
