Question of the Week #7
Whatâs your museâs favorite color? Do they have a reason why or do they just think it looks nice? Do they surround themselves in it or is it enjoyed in moderation?
Question of the Week #6
If your muse could change one thing about themselves, what would they do? Would it be a physical attribute, a personality characteristic, or something as big as their status as a representative?
Reblog this post or tag us in your response!
Hikaru would change his status as a representative to be more of a secondary figure; heâs never liked the way his status has given him importance that he thinks is well beyond what he deserves. Furthermore, itâs a lot of responsibility that he did not ask for nor would he ever desire to have. Heâs always struggled with it, though the close second would be to change his passive personality to something a little more straightforward (but without being rude, or too much like Kikuâ so basically, it remains little more than a wish because he cannot have it both ways.)
Part of why he liked being able to take a backseat when Kiku was the âmainâ representative was because of his feelings about his role; he doesnât have the ambition everyone else seems to have, and wishes only for the simple things like âI wish my citizens could all live happy, prosperous livesâ without thinking about how much human nature often goes against the ideal. Thatâs actually why, in spite of initially being 100% opposed to ever doing so again, he has been known to have Kiku stand in for him in the past three decades. Itâs just overwhelming sometimes.
Kiku is much more shallow; if he could change anything, itâd be his physical appearanceâ but not the obvious physical oddities about him.
He really wants the burn scars gone. He hates being perceived, even by Hikaru, in a state of undress of any kind when heâs not entirely covered. Theyâre on most of his body, and while he acknowledges and accepts that theyâre his own fault in the first place, Kiku is almost jealous of Hikaru for how his scars from the sengoku period have mostly faded away entirely, but his show no signs of fading at all. It affects his relationship with Hikaru, and pretty much anyone who even so much as thinks of inviting him to a place where (most or all) clothes are optional. (Beaches, hot springs, pools.) Even seeing himself in the mirror before a bath causes him disdain.
Question of the Week #2
Do you have a creation story for your muse? How did your polity come to represent this specific area and people?

Claude was born a sickly child to a peasant family in Tolosa. He was taken to the outskirts and left to die, but he simply⌠didnât. He was found and taken in by another family, but when it came apparent that he wasnât a normal baby â with his distinctive lack of aging â he was sent to Gaul herself, and united with his older brothers, the personifications of Paris and Lyon. He didnât return to Tolosa/Toulouse until the Visigoths took over when he was made a Prince. Ever since then, he has been the public face of Toulouse. Claude doesnât necessarily represent the people, but the place. He is the land of Toulouse, and he tries to not let his people/government define him. As the land expanded and the city grew and developed, so did he, and he was and is still very adored by his people. He donates to charities and attends all the official events â from new building unveilings, expositions, fairs and festivals, etc.
Question of the Week #3
Does your muse have gaps in their memory relating to major events? Do they know it? What impact does this have on their identity?
If the answer is no, whatâs one thing they wish they could forget and why?
Reblog this post or tag us in your response!
Absolutely. Much of his early life has been long forgotten â even the man who raised him in early years. He doesnât remember much about Toulouse in the early Roman years or the centuries following â he only remembers the Visigoths because of the trauma that followed with the Frankish invasion and take over that dissolved the Toulouse Kingdom into the city it is today. Some faces from his history are blurry, and it can be frustrating when heâs trying to recall his past to friends and younger Personifications. Some nights, he cries for what heâs lost â some memories are just familiar feelings that he canât quite place, and some faces have lost names or features or dates. The most recent of his forgotten memories are of Marie-Claire, the woman he was engaged to in the mid-late 1700s who left him for a Parisian soldier. Her face is starting to fade in his mind, and he canât remember her voice - but for once, he isnât saddened by it.

Question of the Week #1
What does your polity do to fulfill their responsibilities to the area and people they represent? What sort of responsibilities do they put on themselves to achieve outside of official work?
Reblog this post or tag us in your response!
Lilyâs primary job is working in the foreign security and espionage department (BND) of Germany. She focuses on keeping Germany safe from outside threats, and typically runs the security detail for Germany himself, especially if he is going abroad.Â
For Berlin, however, she focuses on bringing attention to the needs of the poor and most suffering. She spends time doing volunteer work and being in touch with the people, especially the working class, refugees, etc. She also acts as a hostess for foreign polities visiting the city. And, of course, she harasses the other German states (read: Bavaria) into paying for everything.Â
Sheâs glad that damn airport is finally open.

Question of the Week #5
What is your museâs most valuable possession? What do they do with it? Do they hide it away or do they display it? How long have they had it for?Â
Reblog this post or tag us in your response!
Hikaru has hidden his away; it is a juunihitoe from the Heian era, carefully preserved for only himâ it was his, and he would prefer not to have to go to a museum to see it. Though a juunihitoe is meant to be worn by noble women, Hikaru thoroughly enjoyed the complexity that went into coordinating the colors and accessories (which was season dependent) and simply had to have one himselfâ and being barely a teenager physically, surrounded by court ladies, it was probably hard to say no to such a request from him, the personification of Japan and descendant of Amaterasu. It is too small for him now, and he does not want anything to happen to it since it has survived so many centuries (and countless threats along with it) so it rarely comes out of storage.
Kikuâs is on display in his room; the flag of the Imperial Navy that Kirishima carried until her sinking in November 1942. Obviously it isnât in excellent shape, owing to how intense the battle was, but itâs on display regardless (with all of the other historical relics from the 20th century.) It would be easy enough to simply display a new / replica of his naval ensign, which is still used by the JMSDF to this day, but he insists that it must be this one. Kirishima is the ship he has the most respect and adoration for, so he keeps it around as a reminder of many things; 1942 was both the year he considers his peak and the beginning of his demise. Though he also held on to many weapons from earlier eras of Japanese history, this one has the most sentimental value to him.Â
For both of them, thereâs probably museums out there who would pay obscene amounts of money for such items, but they would flat out refuse to part with them. Kiku has more things that could be considered collectible on display, while Hikaru tends to keep his older collectibles in storage and take them out when the urge hits rather than wake up to them on a daily basis. He gets enough exposure to history from Kikuâs room, anywayâŚ
Question of the Week #4
Who was/is your museâs favorite person, and why? What was their relationship like, if they had one? If theyâre gone now, how does your muse remember them?
Reblog this post or tag us in your response!
Cait has had many favorite people throughout her lifetime. Some sheâs been able to publicly support, and some sheâs had to privately endorse. At present, her favorite Southerner is President Jimmy Carter.
While he was in office, she spent much more time in DC than she had in many decades, and felt as if she could speak openly and honestly with him about the issues that her people were facing every day. The Carter Administration increased funding for many social programs to assist the poor, a large percentage of which lived in the South and other rural areas.
Today, she maintains a good relationship with him and his wife, and always joins them on their annual Habit for Humanity builds. Sheâll talk any nationâs ears off about the Carter Foundation, personally gathering support and donations from her peers for the Health Programs.

Other than the obvious, being any of his older brothers, Claudeâs favourite person would have been King Theodoric II. While he was something of a ruthless leader, he didnât have any (known) children of his own, and he often spent time with the small Claud â walking through the city and teaching him to read and ride horseback and the like.
Claude doesnât remember Theodoric, as his rule is far, far in the past. He remembers vaguely of a father figure he had once, but he has nothing to remember him by â all his childhood trinkets dissolved by time. The oldest thing he has is a painting of himself as a child, though itâs faded and the edges of the canvas are frayed. Heâs thought about letting the museum have it, but he doesnât know if he can let go of something so personal.

Cait has about a month and a half gap in her memory in 1865. After getting utterly destroyed in her last battle at Appomattox, she stayed dead up until the death of Lincoln. When she finally came back around, she had no memory of who or what she was. She didnât regain her memory until she went to the White House to hear a proclamation by the new President. Upon speaking with him, recognizing him as a Southerner, she remembered her own position. This didnât bode well for America, who until that moment had lied to her in the hopes that she would never remember.
While she doesnât necessarily remember that this gap exists, her demeanor became remarkably more human because of it. While before she was clumsy and cared solely about her own national interests, living as a human gave her a desire to be human that she hasnât quite been able to shake ever since. This desire manifested nearly a hundred years later when she admitted that she wanted a child, despite being unable to have any as an immortal.

She doesnât have gaps in her memory. Perhaps she remembers some things (like personal trauma) a bit too well. However, it has been shaped by the reigning politics at times. During the Cold War, how she remembered certain events could be skewed by pressure from her leaders and propaganda. Now that she has been out of that for 30ish years, the memories have blurred a bit and become somewhat more truthful (although it might be said that memories are never truly truthful).Â
She sometimes wishes she could forget some of her greatest shames (such as executing her beloved Thomas). But she knows it is better to hold onto the memory and truth, to remind her that her people matter more than anything else.

Question of the Week #2
Do you have a creation story for your muse? How did your polity come to represent this specific area and people?

Being born so late into history, Lilyâs creation is fairly straightforward. On July 17th, as the Allies in Potsdam prepared to split Berlin, a little girl appeared in the basement of a collapsed building in the heart of Berlin. She knew nothing, other than the German language, and that she called herself âBerlin.â After a long struggle, she managed to climb out of the rubble and wandered about the broken city. An old woman caught sight of the parentless child and took her in for a time.Â
But shortly after, her nature as a polity was revealed and word spread. She was quickly scooped up by Allied forces and brought to the others. There was some debate over to which one she should go to. No one was particularly keen on taking a literal child under their wing, especially with tensions rising between the Americans and Soviets. They would much rather keep the original Berlin for themselves, as a sort of sign of legitimacy. One way or another though, she wound up being given to Russia. Perhaps he had a soft spot, or perhaps he saw a chance to mold a new polity entirely in his own image, reducing the chance for rebellion. Perhaps they just flipped a coin and he lost. Regardless, she went with him, and her fate was sealed.

Her favorite person throughout her life is no doubt Thomas, the border guard she fell in love with and dated for little over a year in the 70s. There may be some bias here, as tragedy struck so early on that there was little time for them to fall apart or form bad memories. He will always be her first real love in her mind, and her greatest shame. When it came down to it, she chose duty over love. She knows that, regardless of ideology, that is often the choice a polity must make in the end. But she hopes she will never have to do it in such a way ever again. She was told he was a traitor. But when the Wall fell, she recovered his files from a Stasi office and learned the truth. He had done little more than perhaps smuggled some goods here and there for himself. Ultimately, this had been about breaking her and keeping her inline and under the boots of her superiors, as well as testing her loyalty. That is something she will never forget.Â
She was forced to hand over anything she had of or from him after the execution, but she managed to carefully hide some photos and film negatives. She kept them completely hidden until well after the Cold War, when no one could tell her otherwise. So she has a few within her homes and offices. She also secretly kept his Stasi file. And as a tribute to him, she planted a hazelnut tree at her dacha, as hazelnuts were his favorite snack.
