Holy shit the exposition is boring as balls

I called out every single plot point that was going to come out of this route and wasn’t impressed with any of it because they talk so heavily about the motif of ‘being real’ and yet I didn’t feel like there was anything real with how they wrote Rachel’s story in the slightest? Like I’m no Edgar Allen Poe with my writing, but damn, give me something different that gives me a reason to think Rachel’s persona that is seen is different than how she is with Max because honestly that was the most generic portrayal of a person who hasn’t been ‘real’ with themselves that I’ve ever seen. Maybe it’s because I was so bogged down by the exposition that I couldn’t be arsed to fully indulge myself in this visual novel, but man, even if it wasn’t, I’d still have a problem with such a cliche, bit by bit story that I’ve seen played out way better in other mediums.

I guess falling in love under a week is a white people thing, isn’t it?

The hammered in point with Max constantly stating “Rachel’s so different--” like, I understand, they wanna get that idea of Max having her misconceptions and shit, but couldn’t you reiterate that twice and leave it at that? It has been constantly repeated and I felt like I was getting my patience tested in what I can retain in my own brain holy shit. I understand, SO DIFFERENT WOW. WE’RE GONNA LEARN SHE’S NOT DIFFERENT...WOW..,,,,

The music is grating my damn nerves and I only had to deal with it for two hours.

I don’t understand how Max can be around a girl for a year and still reiterate repeatedly she knows nothing about her. That either make Max a dumbass or make this a sign of bad writing, which feels like a mix of both. Like, how oblivious can you be? Honestly, with the little slivers we get in the novel, we STILL don’t know much about her except that she got a modeling contract, and she’s hardworking and insecure. That’s it. Nothing more. 

If I ever see the word wowzers one more time, I’m going to burn anyone who uses it.

Overall the visual novel feels like a gratuitous fanfic--like I understand the motivation and good intentions to go with it, but honestly from what I’ve personally experience and what I hear from my other friends, it seems too gratuitous and overly ship fodder friendly to be enjoyed if you want some actual story as it all comes pretty quick and unsatisfactory. I could have gotten the same story I was given from fanfic.net or archiveofourown. Obviously it’s a retconning of the original so it makes it into some perfect world where the evil manz don’t exist and doesn’t distract you from the lesbifun times, and obviously it’s supposed to be a fan pandering mess (like the rest of the game wasn’t one already), so if you enjoy those kind of messy panders and just want to see your OTP make it, then hey, here’s something to feed you (And by feed, I mean shove down your damn throat). But don’t come to me saying this is like the epitome of great writing and characters because it all feel tripe and boring for the short section i played of it. Maybe when if I go down the other routes, i’ll feel more successful? But otherwise, I’m not feeling it.
