BACKSTORY- TW MURDER
Atlas was born the only child to Justine and Lee Silva in Queen, New York. Growing up, money was a hard thing to come by in the Silva household and an even harder thing to keep hold of. They had food on the table and they were all lucky enough to have their health, however, so Atlas never complained. His parents owned a convenience store so as soon as he was old enough he would spend a great deal of his time over at the store helping his father stock the shelves and when he turned fifteen, Atlas even began watching over the store in the evenings after school where he would study at the counter while his parents pursued other work to pull money in.Â
Atlas is often seen scribbling or doodling in the backs of notebooks or pretty much any piece of paper that he gets his hands on and he’s been that way since he was small. Nobody paid much mind to it until he got to middle school and one of his teachers noticed his natural talent for drawing (even if she was cross that the drawing in question had been on the back of the questions he was supposed to be answering for class). Her suggestion that he continue to work hard on it and consider pursuing it as a career path was mocked heavily by his father, years of working paycheck to paycheck just to get by having exhausted any optimism he might have once held that the future could be bright. His mother, on the other hand, thought that it was wonderful. She encouraged Atlas and continued to remind him that their lifestyle was exactly why he should keep pushing, to make more for himself than they could ever provide for him.
He tried to keep pushing, if not for himself then for his mother, but it was hard to keep himself on track with the tragic loss of his father over the summer of his junior year of high school. It was hard to think about the future when it had felt as if Atlas’ world was falling apart at the seams. How he managed passing grades between school, working, consoling his mother and being interviewed what felt like every five minutes, Atlas had no idea. With those he had been prepared to settle for one of his backup colleges - whoever would take him, really, but it had been his portfolio and strong recommendations from his teachers that earned him his scholarship to Luxor. The investigation is still ongoing but he’s hearing less about it these days now that he’s away at college.Â
