RUUHI AMARA AND THE CASE OF THE PSYCHIC PENDANT: a TMS prequel

SUMMARY: Rookie detective Ruuhi Amara is hard-up on cash and in desperate need of clients, so when she’s commissioned by the eccentric Tamasha performing arts troupe to investigate a case of Upper Crescent murder, she doesn’t think twice before accepting. As she’s thrust into a dizzying world of subterfuge, back-alley deals and twisted relationships, Ruuhi struggles to keep the truth– and her own safety– in her grasp. And at the beating heart of it all is the psychic pendant, an enigma of a creation that holds the key to solving the whole bewildering case. The only problem? The pendant’s gone missing, and the clock is ticking down…

WTW PLANET PROMPTS | DAY 3: EARTH | POLITICS

For Psychs, some of the social caste is determined by what kind of Psych you are. The most common kind of Psych is a Base Psych, a person able to harness some kind of cosmic energy from within and manipulate it to their will. Bases are able to mold energy into things like weapons and shields, create portals to connect two distinct points in space, and are typically in the clear when it comes to sickness or injury.

Light Psychs are a category all their own, and are extremely rare. They aren’t considered Elementals or Bases, which forces them into a unique role in Psych society.

Elementals are also rare, and their scarcity varies from type to type. Because of the nature of Psych power heredity, only well-kept bloodlines will see Fire or Water Psychs, as these are the two purest of the elements. Earth and Wind Psychs make up the vast majority of the Elemental population, about 75%, while Lightning and Nature Psychs are around 20%.

Because Elementals have all the same abilities as Bases in addition to the ability to manipulate their respective Element, many Bases look down on or even fear Elementals. Though there is a significant divide in numbers between them, many Bases still feel uneasy about the amount of power Elementals have access to. The Psych community has had various waves of anti-Elemental idealism, and as Neil enters Harmonium, it seems that the recent deadly incident involving his mother (a Fire Elemental) and Clark Destella’s mother (a Base) has reignited some of those sentiments.

In fact, Neil is shocked to find out that, even despite the friendship between their mothers, Clark is one such radical who thinks that Bases and Elementals should be taught separately.

While this anti-Elemental mindset is initially bothersome but fairly harmless, as soon as Elementals start to go missing, Neil wonders if there are people who would go to greater lengths than he expected to scare Elementals away from Harmonium for good.

SYNOPSIS:

Aella Onyeisi has been first mate of the Hurricane since she was fourteen, an all-female pirate crew out to take the world by storm.

Picking up a male passenger wasn’t an adventure she saw coming, but she won’t regret it.

Theodore Grey has read every book about pirates he can get his hands on. On a quest with everything at stake, a pirate crew were the last allies he expected to find.

He definitely didn’t expect to befriend them.

But a rival captain has his eye on the Hurricane—one Aella knows all too well. To make matters worse, he wants her for his crew, whether she likes it or not.  

Aella doesn’t want to be caught up in this fight, and it was never Theo’s to begin with. But there’s a twenty-year-old score to be settled, and the women of the Hurricane won’t just give up their ship without a fight.
