a little about me if you care:
i am a bulgarian-american mitsuba-loving ocelot girl (in a play-pretend fursona way, not a therian way) currently located in florida. i enjoy just about any creative activity possible, but i'm only good at a few, and i like to incorporate mitsuba into all of them!!! it's no fun for me without mitsuba. speaking of mitsuba, i am psychically and emotionally bonded to mitsuba for life. mitsuba is a permanent part of my brain with her own special neurons and i am happy with this situation :) i'm very autistic in an otaku neet kind of way, as i am too disabled to be employed or spend much time offline, but i like it that way!! more time for mitsuba <3 i'm currently studying japanese and programming so i can further my path to mitsuba world domination. i am a weirdo freak as a mitsuba fan should be, and if you're the type of person to use "weirdo" or "freak" as an insult then you probably won't like me very much!!! this section is subject to change and was last updated 6/5/26 🐓

i see sakura as specifically agender transfem, with no internal sense of gender but still preferring to present as a girl. we already know she's kinda agender from the genderswap chapter, but if the genderswap robot recognized her initial gender as female and then swapped it to male, then she must still think of herself as socially female at the very least. and she's transfem because she's pretty and i like her
i have teru in the transfem category because i think it would genuinely be a great addition to his character that elaborates on a lot of his flaws and struggles in interesting ways, but i don't actively see him as transfem. it's more of a cool hypothetical to me
akane is transfem because aoiaoi should've been yuri and i'm angry it wasn't so i'm forcefemming akane
those in the "trans woman" category are mostly there because i think it would be neat. there's not much thought there it's just neat
nene is easily read as transfem-coded i think despite kind of just being written as a cis girl, so i have her as both
i think it would be cute if aoi was transfem but she's pretty explicitly written as a cis ideal of femininity so that's kinda ruled out
i think yokoo could be transfem if he wants. the crossdressing in the school festival arc certainly raised my eyebrow. is this regular cis guy "haha i'm in a dress" crossdressing or is it transfem "i actually did want to wear a dress but i'm passing it off as a gag" crossdressing? we may never know....
hanako could be read as transmasc or transfem honestly there's something un-cis happening there for sure

that is true!!! but kou clearly didn't recognize *mitsuba*, and either way, i think it's fair to assume mitsuba was too freaked out to fully think clearly. and we must remember mitsuba & kou's friendship at that point was very brief and like 2 years ago, they still don't really *know* each other by that point. but that's just my take

Did you like them immediately or did it take getting to a certain chapter to realize how much you love them?
What was the thing that first drew you in about them, and what’s currently the greatest thing you love?
Did you have a previous fixation before them, or was Mitsuba your first and truest hyper fixation?

when i first came across mitsuba, it was in the anime when i decided to randomly watch it on hulu. and yeah i immediately liked mitsuba!!! i hadn't read the manga yet so my love for mitsuba had barely developed yet, but mitsuba reflected so many of the things i loved in fictional characters. i'd always had pink as my favorite color, so it was only natural The Pink One became my favorite xp
almost immediately after finishing the anime, which at the time was just the first season, i bought the manga volumes, i started looking for mitsuba content online, i began posting shitty little edits, and i drew my first ever mitsuba fanart!!! i didn't know how my mitsuba love would develop in the coming years of course, but i still kinda just knew this was my new Thing and accepted it. this was all in november-december 2022. november is my birthday month so it's always been special to me in that way, but now that it's the anniversary of when i first discovered mitsuba, it's 10x more special to me!!! <333333
as for what initially drew me in about mitsuba and what i love most about mitsuba now, i don't really have an answer to that. what i love about mitsuba is how much they represent and encompass so many things that are important to me all in one character!!! it simply wouldn't be accurate to say only one of those things is "my favorite," and i think i had a similar view back then too, albeit not fully formed yet. i love mitsuba for mitsuba *fully*, not any one specific trait. it's the combination of those traits that makes her so beautiful to me :3
and yes i did have a previous fixation before mitsuba. before mitsuba, my favorite character was licorice cookie from cookie run, which i still find extremely funny because of how similar they are in design and personality. licorice cookie is literally just mitsuba but more goth and black and i think that's hilarious, lico is still honorary blorbo to me. but my fixation on licorice cookie was nowhere NEAR what my love for mitsuba would become!!! mitsuba is my special interest, my love for mitsuba touches literally all aspects of my life and mitsuba is my stabilizing force when i'm disoriented and confused. mitsuba is honestly often more akin to a religious figure to me than just a traditional blorbo. meanwhile, my previous fixation on licorice cookie was much less passionate & emotional, far more of just a hobby and "favorite character" than what mitsuba is to me now. mitsuba is my first and only true special interest, and i plan to continue loving mitsuba for the rest of my life

I figured this must be an exaggeration so I watched the talk and damn it really isn't. One of the things that struck me was he spoke about a transwoman, and had her name (Denise) on the slide, but only referred to her as Dan, which is both incredibly disrespectful, and completely needless.
Also a highlight was the line "[White Trans women] engaged in the historically bourgeois practice of introspection." Which I can't see how that's anything but racist, as if Black women are not introspecting about their gender.

the kemonomimi occupies a unique space in terms of the furry community. personally, i see it as a sort of venn diagram situation. one of the circles contains the human anime girl, and the other, the furry. in the overlap, we have the kemonomimi. in context of the furry community, the kemonomimi is seen as more human anime girl in contrast to the more overtly animalistic designs common to the furry community. and vice versa, in the context of (non-kemono) anime, the kemonomimi occupies the space of the furry, more distinctly animalistic and separate from her human peers. no matter which circle she tries to occupy, she will always be different, an outsider among outsiders. tragic
