How does it work?

The OccupEye sensor:

Designed and built in the UK, our workspace utilisation sensors are built specifically to accurately monitor workspace usage in any office environment. Using passive data collection technology (PIR), OccupEye sensors are triggered by motion and heat, ensuring that they can accurately define if a desk is occupied. Not only can the sensor measure individual occupancy, but can measure larger areas such as meeting rooms and break out zones.

Completely wireless and battery powered our sensors are deployed and installed to suit our client’s needs, offering a tailored and scalable solution. Our deployment process is completely customisable to offer you a quick and efficient installation.

The lightweight design of the sensors allow for simple transfer and discrete mounting, allowing for accommodation managers to re-deploy units with ease.

The OccupEye Network Receiver:

Our receiver acts as a crucial element in our data collecting technology. The network receiver will manage the flow of data between our sensors and the cloud-based analytics system.

Every receiver can incorporate the data from an impressive 511 individual sensors, with built in “handshake” technology that guarantees clean and robust data transfer. Through the installation of multiple receivers, full property portfolios can be monitored to give your organisation a completely accurate understanding of your full portfolio.  In correlation with the OccupEye sensor our receiver is lightweight and portable making the installation options extremely flexible to your exact needs.

Client: Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

Project: The on going monitoring of clinical space, reception and meeting rooms in order to see where services can be better facilitated.

Expectations of the NHS and the services they provide face constant scrutiny. With budgets being cut annually for many trusts, it is important for facilities managers to ensure services are situated in the right place, with sufficient space for the service which they provide.

One of the main objectives for Derbyshire was to reduce underutilised space, which was costing the trust large amounts of money in terms of maintenance and running costs. The trust has some excellent facilities, so an additional aim was to make the best use of the already existing space within the trusts property portfolio. Ian Johnson, Facilities Manager at the trust stated “We’ve done studies in some of our newer premises, the biggest one we did was 27 meeting and clinic rooms. That’s a new building that’s not going anywhere, with really good facilities and a long lease, so we needed to make the best use of it”.

Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust wanted to know how often their meeting rooms and clinical spaces were actually being used. The trust had used similar technology in the past, but nothing that produced the results the trust needed in order to make informed decisions about property.

Having the evidence to support decisions about relocating staff was vital for Derbyshire. OccupEye® has given the trust accurate data about how much of their space is actually being used, showing exactly where staff can be relocated to, without causing overcrowding. The information that OccupEye® reports have provided for the trust, have saved vast amounts of time. Ian goes on to state “Now, everything has to be proven.  You miss out the initial conversations before you can get people around the table, because we’ve already got the evidence. Rather than can we, it’s we can. Now let’s talk about how”.

Universities are utilising our technology and displaying the OccupEye interface outside of their libraries so students can locate available computer desks in seconds. Students can also log into our system which will allow for them to check library space before they even leave their homes!

Project: The on going monitoring of library space to improve students experience of the university facilities.

How fit is a building for the services it provides? Until recently, considerable amounts of time and money have been wasted by organisations who monitor space occupancy by conducting walk through surveys. Not only is this method an expensive and time consuming process but provides inaccurate results and disruption to the workforce. These inconsistent results and data render it impossible for organisations to know the true occupancy percentages of their workspace. The solution is OccupEye®, a room and desk monitoring system which accurately and efficiently captures space utilisation over any period of time, 24 hours a day, and 7 days a week. How does it work? Sensors are deployed exactly were the client wishes to monitor, feeding back to an online dashboard which creates bespoke reports (based on client’s exact needs). These can range from (but not limited to) average use of expensive facilities such as conference rooms, or the occupancy of desks over a period of time. OccupEye®, have been assisting numerous education providers to improve their space utilisation and effectively lower costs by providing them with reliable and essential data they can trust.

With tuition fees rising, students now expect university facilities to be of a higher standard in comparison to previous years. This student mentality means that more pressure has been put on facilities managers to ensure that student expectations are accounted for.

One of the main objectives for Jeremy, Facilities Manager at Birkbeck University, was to ensure students experience was improved. The specific area Jeremy wanted to focus on was the library space within the university, which spans over four floors. The aim was to dispel the myth from students that library space was overcrowded, and affecting their ability to use the facilities.

OccupEye® provided a bespoke solution for Birkbeck and the needs of the students in order for them to take full advantages of the facilities on offer to them. The OccupEye® dashboard is now displayed outside the library, showing students exactly where available spaces are on each floor. This saves a significant amount of time for students Being led directly to available spaces, students can locate an available workspace in seconds, saving valuable studying time.

As a result of the OccupEye® installation, students have greater confidence in the library facilities, with staff having accurate data to inform students of the availability of library space. OccupEye® reports showed large amount of underutilised space within the library, providing evidence that the library facilities were not under strain as students had previously believed.
