a request where jj makes the reader feel unwelcome in the group since sheâs technically a kook and she finally gets fed up w it and leaves making him feel bad
A/N: ooo I like this prompt! Hope you enjoy, anon!
You Donât Belong Here
The country club brunch is another one of those absurd traditions that the Kooks love following. Another place to pull their own dicks over how much their properties are worth, and another place youâre dragged to by your family. You stare down at the abysmal excuse of an omelette and push the plate away. Opting to scan the room instead, you notice that the Carrera family is not all present. No, of course not, Kiara has the freedom to avoid these places.
You and Kiara are... acquainted to say the least. Most likely, youâre the only Kook Kiara associates without viscousness. Today, youâre jealous you and Kiara donât have a better relationship. Maybe then, you could dodge these brunches.
You stare down at your phone and finally, grit your teeth and text the girl.
Hey, um, we donât really talk much but I really fucking hate this stupid brunch and wanna get out.
Kiara:
Oh hey.
Yeah, I feel you. Um, if you want to, you could come hang out with the Pogues? I know itâs not really your scene but...
You send out at hasty text in response:
Iâm coming. Text me the deets.
So thatâs how you come across the Pogues. Theyâre all sitting on Heywardâs dock, legs dangling over the side. Beer bottles are hidden next to them, and they seem... cheery.
Kiara turns her head and gives a small smile when she sees you. âHey, Y/N!â
You hold your hand up slightly and wave. Your attire seems off to be chilling on the dock but you escaped the brunch barely, no time to do anything else. Slowly, you walk over, trying not to notice the boys looking at you in confusion. Well, two of them are confused. The blonde boy, on the other hand, glares at you as you sit down next to Kiara. âWho are you?â he asked skeptically.
You start wringing your hands before responding, âUh, Iâm Y/N. Kiara and I know each other from school.â
Kiara smiles to them and nods. âSheâs really chill, I promise.â Then, she turns back to you. âLemme introduce them since theyâre so rude. Thatâs JJ,â she says, pointing to the glaring boy. âJohn B is right next to him. And, thatâs Pope. This is his dadâs business place.â
âOh, thatâs cool,â you say quietly. JJ rolls his eyes, but Pope smiles back.Â
John B takes a quick sip of his beer before asking you, âYou also stoner at school like Kie?â Kiara playfully hits his arm, and you shake your head while holding back a laugh.Â
âSheâs actually one of the smartest kids at school,â Kiara responds for you.
âWow,â JJ deadpans while Pope glares at him.Â
âIgnore him,â Pope says, rolling his eyes. âHeâs just pissed he didnât catch anything today.âÂ
âShut up. I just donât care about over achievers...â You look down, face reddening. Maybe, heâs joking, you thought.Â
John B clears his throat and tries to change the topic. âSo, uh, Y/N, you a lifer?â
You smile and nod. âYeah, my grandma moved here when she was little. My dad inherited her business.â
âOh, so your family are tax evaders?â JJ asks, his tone venomous. âBecause of you, my dad gets no social welfare.â
âJJ!â Kiara yells. âWhy the hell are you bringing that up?!â
âUm, sorry if Iâm intruding,â you say, standing up.Â
âDude, youâre fine-â âYeah, you are.â
Pope, John B, and Kiara glare at JJ. âWhat?â he asks angrily. âShe is! Sheâs a Kook, Kie. Whyâd you invite her here?â
âMay I remind you that Iâm from her side of the island too? Sheâs chill, like I said!â Kiara argues back.Â
JJ chuckles darkly and turns to you. âLook at you. Only five minutes in, and youâre already causing problems between us.â
âI-I didnât mean to-â you stutter.
âIt doesnât matter! You donât belong here! Just because you got bored with Kook life doesnât mean you can come join us!â
âFine!â you scream, tears welling up in your eyes. âIâll leave!â
Kiara stands up with you and tries to stop you. âHey, donât leave. Heâs just being rude for no reason.â
âBut, he does have a reason.â You turn to JJ. âIâm sorry if I could never leave the âKookâ life until now. People expect things from me. Just because my parents have money, I have to be paraded around so that my parents can fit in. Thatâs not my fault! Iâd rather come and hang out with people who donât care about superficial things instead of killing myself everyday to hang out with people who donât care about my existence!â You breathe heavily, tears falling freely down your face. âIâm sorry, Kie. I should leave.â Not even looking behind you, you walk off the dock.Â
âJJ, what the hell, man?â John B asks quietly. âYou crossed the line.â The rest of the Pogues leave him at the dock. JJ folds his arms across his chest and thinks to himself that maybe, he couldâve handled the situation better. Bringing up his dad was stupid. But, he couldnât help himself; his dad was severe with him today, to say the least. All because JJâs an economic burden.Â
Looking out to the road, he frowns as he sees you get into an uber. He stares until the car drives away, and quietly, he mutters, âIâm sorry.â
A/N: So, I thought to myself that this has potential to be a sequel, especially because of how open ended the prompt is. If this gets over 50 notes or a ton of comments of wanting a sequel, Iâll be more than happy to write it!
