„He‘d been deliberately not looking at Livvy and Ty greeting their sister. Something about the tight knot of Blackthorns hugging and exclaiming over each other reminded him exactly how much he wasn‘t one of them…“
Scenes like these in TDA just always make me like so so emotional. Kit realizing he wasn‘t part of Blackthorn family and that he had no one caring for him/loving him in that way. And the fact that in TLKOF he will finally have someone like that. I just can‘t wait for Jem and Tessa to fuss over him after returning from a mission and Mina clinging to him and refusing to ever let her brother go again.

My favorite thing about Mark is that he's just fucking weird.
Reminder that this is the dynamic between tylivvy in tda:
The way they show up and take care of each other:
And this is them in the lost world:
I really want Livvy to end up fully resurrecting in TWP. Now, I want to start this off by saying that I know it’s unlikely and might be as hard hitting emotionally for the overall plot.
However, I desperately need to see this girl, who retrospectively seemed doom from the beginning, get to snatch her destiny back from fate itself. She deserves to get to be a main character, someone whose lifelong dream of protecting/nurturing people is able to be realized.
Like, think about this for a second. Everything she’s wanted has been taken from her. When she wanted her older siblings back, she instantly gets murdered right after they re-enter her life (like, literally the day after Helen comes back if I’m remembering correctly). She just wanted her family back together but never got to see it actually happen. Secondly, in TDA she also seemed very concerned with Ty being ok. Yet, she’s the exact reason (through no fault of her own) that Ty ends up making a horrible decision that is likely killing him and will have horrendous consequences for the world. Not to mention that it cuts him off from one of the people most important to him - Kit.
And when it comes to her being resurrected by Ty, she gets wrenched from afterlife where she was at peace, without a consideration of it that’s what she truly wanted. Another thing that I find interesting is thg she’s not being talked of as a protagonist for TWP, even though it couldn’t happen without her and she will likely be present throughout the entire book (I’m not saying that to diss Cassie, I just think it points to something interesting about Livvy’s character design and what is in store for her in TWP).
I don’t know, it just feels like she’s this pawn that people push around on the chess board that is the plot of TDA and TWP to fulfill other people’s wants and needs (or the plot’s needs). And I just need her to forcefully take back her autonomy, defy the plot expectations and the laws of death itself.
There’s something about the way how Livvy sees Ty both as her anchor to the world, her savior.
And at the same time as the one who has imprisonised her into her current state:
TWP theory that I hope doesn’t turn out to be true: What if the necromancy performed on Livvy turns her insane/evil and the only way for her to be well is for Ty to give up his life for her to be resurrected? The scales of life and death would be balanced. A life for a life, the gaping hole in the universe knits itself back together the moment Livvy is back in her mortal body and Ty breaths his last breath.
Ty does it because Livvy becomes a danger to the entire shadowhunter society and possibly even Downworlders. But also because he knows deep down that Livvy would never have wanted this to happen and that he has to be the one to end it since he brought her back.
Bonus theory: Kit is so distraught that he gives up his powers in a bargain to bring Ty back through whatever means possible (possibly through some sort of deal with an entity in Faerie or even heaven itself).
I don’t think Cassie would write something that sad (and I hope she doesn’t), but I do think it would be interesting to talk more about how Livvy could potentially have a villain arc.
You give me a perfect chance to talk about this!
I paid attention to this thing Magnus said in my reread of The Lost World:
In Buddhism, hungry ghosts are beings that are tormented by desire that can never be satisfied. Indeed, Livvy seems to be craving something constantly throughout her story: she is overconsumed by the desire to live.
In the following snippet, I think this hunger presents itself pretty well:
She also keeps forgetting Ty when the bond weakens, and on top of that, forgetting herself.
I think this implies something sinister is happening with Livvy, and the heron necklace is there just as a method of slowing things down. So honestly the theory that Livvy would become evil wouldn’t be completely out of left field.
The reason I feel a bit of an aversion towards the story going that way though, is because that kind of already happened to Annabelle. She did turn into villain due to Malcolm’s necromancy, and while I think what Livvy is going through probably mirrors Annabelle somewhat, I don’t know if the same story would happen twice. And with Annabelle being Livvy’s killer, I think it would make her storyline downright depressing (which I don’t think Cassie is known for doing).

Do you think Livvy will remember the afterlife? Because it’s not like she died and then instantly came back as a ghost, she was fully dead/at rest for an entire book.
We know Ty will have secrets, but will Livvy too? In protecting Ty’s feelings will she never mention the happiness she experienced at being reunited with their parents (especially their mom)? The feeling of airy lightness of being untethered from the pain of the mortal world?
Or is shadowhunter afterlife just a ceasing of existence and there’s nothing for her to really remember? (I just don’t feel like it would be)
It’s an interesting thing to ponder, since as of now, we don’t have many implications she was concious when dead. Other than this obvious line:
"I loved you even when I was dead" sort of sounds like she didn’t cease existing completely after she died.
Girls and their weird lakes
I am really interested to see how Livvy’s arc will develop in TWP. It was set up in such an interesting way in The Lost World. As we all saw, this is what Cassie said in her ask recently about her:
This is what most people have read in qoaad, and seem to base their opinion solely on it:
But, The Lost World makes Livvy’s arc so complex, I think. There is the line "I did not choose this life" of, and even if it was something on the wall that Livvy claimed wasn’t her thoughts, I think it set the theme for her arc altogether. On my reread I was also stopped by this scene in particular:
In TLW, Livvy questions her place in the world now as she has "cheated" her way back to life (in fact, I think Ty is the one who is trying to cheat grief). In many ways, Livvy fears being forgotten by the people she loves. She looks at a painting of herself to not forget her own appearance.
In the context, where she is supposed to be was meant to mean she was supposed to go to Idris. But I think it carries a double meaning; She isn’t supposed to be in this world. She knows she shouldn’t be alive, but she really wants to be.
She also feels extremely jealous of everyone who is alive. It seems like whenever she gets envious, something takes over her.
I wonder how much of that is the ’hungry ghost’ part of her talking, and not her own thoughts. She forgets herself, and she even forgets Ty twice when she is in this state.
Then, of course, she has a talk with Magnus, who tells about the story of Dimmet Tarn:
I assumed at first that the nothingness she sees is her looming death. But the fact that something keeps trying to take over her mind when she’s away from Ty, and she keeps returning back to this nothingness of Dimmet Tarn, it makes me wonder if it’s actually the case. How much agency does Livvy actually have of her own self?
To me, the ending of this story is oddly hopeful:
The heron necklace allows her and Ty a little control over their situation, but it isn’t sustainable. I do think what we know about Ty’s state of being from the snippets imply that by TLKOF, the necklace isn’t enough. In the TLKOF snippet we also learn that Livvy holds many secrets from Ty, and indeed she does that a little in TLW as well.
If the Dimmet Tarn is a metaphor for her death, does that mean all the paths in Livvy’s life lead back to the black nothingness of it?
Before I go to sleep I just have to say, the writing in The Lost World is absolutely gorgeous at times…
I'm constantly delighted by Raphael's commitment to acting like he isn't even on first name terms with the guy who introduced him to the Downworld.

Happy pride month to like half the characters in TSC
Very hypothetical scene in twp where they’re heading to their next destination after a fight or something
