Filipinasâ âNever give-upâ Spirit
âNo matter how many times you fail, fall, or flop, stand up because chances are given to those who strive harder in order to achieve something.â
On December 20, 2015, a controversial win of a Filipina ended the Philippinesâ drought to win the title, Miss Universe. After Steve Harvey mistakenly announced the winner, which he cleared later on. Missosologists were shocked and disappointed with the outcome; 1) Colombia didnât deserve that humiliation, 2) Philippines should have had her âcrowningâ moment. But Harvey apologized and said heâll take account into what happened that night. No oneâs perfect because everyone commits mistakes, and we just need to deal with it, learn from it, and move-on.
It took 42 years when the coveted crown came back to one of the Asiaâs powerhouse when we talk about pageants. It all started with Venus Rajâs 4th runner-up finish in 2010, succeeded by Shamcey Supsupâs 3rd RU finish (2011), Janine Tugononâs 1st RU (2012), Ariella Aridaâs 3rd RU (2013), and MJ Lastimosaâs top 10 finish. It was a tough journey for Philippines since we annually send high-caliber delegates and finally sending a 3-time joiner of the national pageant, Binibining Pilipinas, that eventually won the million-dollar crown. But do you know what these ladies have in common? They at least joined several national pageants to try their luck, hone their capabilities, and reach their dreams no matter how many times they fail.
Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, Miss Universe 2015
[From left to right] Maxine Medina 2016, Ariella Arida 2013, Shamcey Supsup 2011, Pia Wurtzbach 2015, Janine Tugonon 2012, Venus Raj 2010, and MJ Lastimosa 2014.
A back-to-back win didnât happen as Maxine Medina only finished as one of the top 6 finalists in 2016 and succeeded by Rachel Petersâ top 10 finish in 2017. But another lady chased her dream and proved everyone that failure would never be a hindrance in pursuing what your heart truly desires.
December 18, 2016, Catriona Magnayon Gray was an early favorite to win the blue crown, giving the Philippines its 2nd crown for Miss World after Meagan Youngâs win on 2013. Everyone expected Grayâs win since she was considered as the delegate who got it all. Beauty, wit, and personality, those were evident on her. But fate didnât allow that to happen, to win the blue crown, because on December 17, 2018, the Mikimoto crown was destined for her to wear it in Bangkok, Thailand. She bested 93 diverse gorgeous ladies, and also proved that you can be a queen regardless of your height, weight, complexion, beauty, race, and even how many times you joined a pageant just to fight for your advocacy and purpose in life.
Catriona Magnayon Gray, Miss Universe 2018
These misfortunes of the respective queens didnât hinder their goals in life; to succeed. These are only few names to mention but there are a lot of Filipinas who are resilient and fighters in their lives, not only in beauty pageants, but also in their battle in day to day living. What does this imply? DO NOT GIVE UP. As long as you have the chance and opportunity to be better, grab it. Not all are given the chance to prove themselves for the second time around. Remember, âFailure is the only opportunity to begin more intelligently.â

The Struggles of a Neophyte
âYOU DONâT HAVE TO BE GREAT TO START, BUT YOU HAVE TO START TO BE GREAT.â âZIG ZIGLAR
In a world full of judgments and criticisms, one must be resilient and open enough to accept these. Words could either make or break you, but at the end of the day, you need to filter of which to wholeheartedly accept because no one will help you to really be better, itâs only yourself.
In this generation, the real pressure is on after you finish your tertiary education, or for someone whoâs looking for a decent job in order for him to survive and help those who helped him along his journey. High salary, good position, positive environment and colleagues, these are the things that one is dreaming of, but not all can be given to you. Before these can be achieved, challenges will be faced, problems must be solved, and obstacles should be toiled. Not all are given the luxury of everything. We also need to work hard for something that we want, prove that we deserve better, and remain humble at all times.
âLIFE IS A JOURNEY, NOT A DESTINATION.â âRALPH WALDO EMERSON
Do not worry about what will happen to your life. It isnât figured out yet, so just do what will make you comfortable, happy, and satisfied. Sometimes, we overthink about things that should not bother us. One of the problems that this generation is currently facing is the fact that the people who surround you are expecting too much especially when you finish a degree. Yes, being a degree holder gives you that âentitlementâ and privilege of easily finding a job, but these people donât know how hard it is to find a job that you will love, where you will feel the essence of belongingness and you will grow as a person. Before you will reach to your destination, you need to experience the ups and downs of a lifelong journey.
âCHANGE IS THE END RESULT OF ALL TRUE LEARNING.â âLEO BUSCAGLIA
Indeed, change is the only constant thing in this world. We change because we realize how something works. We change because we learnt things that we should have done before. Change is inevitable. The transition of life from an empty bottle to a filled one is an indication that we are ready to face the world, the reality. Hardships and sacrifices do not end after we finish our education, rather, we experience a bit of more burden as we go through life. We change our circles, our environment, and even our perspectives in life. Â We prioritize things that would be beneficial in our growth, for our family, and for everyone that we have in our life.
âWATCH WHAT YOU SAY, AND WHATEVER YOU SAY, PRACTICE IT.â â SOYEN SHAKU
Before we criticize others work, personality, or what, let us reflect first on what we should do or improve about ourselves. We tend to be judgmental individuals to the point that what we say reflects on us. If we want someone to improve, letâs assess ourselves first before jumping into othersâ lives and judge them as if we know them personally, like their struggles, challenges, and even their daily problems that they face. If you are in your workplace, act professionally. You are done with the gossips and hearsays in class and school. Be matured enough to act accordingly. Again, practice what you preach.
âKEEP YOUR EYES ON THE STARS AND YOUR FEET ON THE GROUND.â â THEODRE ROOSEVELT
Landing on a good job doesnât make you better than any other person. Do not be too arrogant just because you got a job first than others. Humble yourself. You should not underestimate someone whoâs just taking his time in finding his own timing. You cannot tell or say when will he be successful. You donât even know, he might get a better job than what you have. If you can help, offer. If you cannot, just support. Help should be given for free; do not let someone feel that he has something to give in return like âutang na loobâ. After all, it is someoneâs initiative of what to do or give back to you for offering a help.
LIFE is a four-letter word; complicated enough that no one will ever decipher its true meaning. Whether you were born with a golden spoon or you come from a thriving family, your life will be full of ups and downs. The goal in life is to minimize the downs and live a happy and inspiring existence.

Dear God,
It has been 20 years since the day youâve given me the life and the love that no one can ever give and replace. Today, I thank you for everything that youâve given me, my family and to all the people who mean to me. I hope that through this letter, youâll give me the courage and inspiration to really live my life and appreciate its beauty no matter how hard and difficult this life that I am living.
Lord, thank you. For my family who always supports me even though sometimes I feel unsupported, unloved, and bombarded with thoughts that no one wants me in the family. Thank you, for the people that surrounds me, who motivates me, inspires me, and understands me though sometimes I am difficult to understand. Thank you, for giving me the wisdom and knowledge, it helped me to reach my dreams in life.
Lord, may you forgive me for my trespasses. Sin is innate to us humans. I know that from these, I can learn something. And thank you, for always forgiving me.
Lord, thank you. For the life that I am living now. Life may bring me tough challenges and struggles but You never left me. In times when I need you, You were there. Remember when I nearly fail to go to school because of that problem? I just prayed, and everything fell into place. I even cried because of it thinking I might not reach my goal and cannot do those things and plans for me and my family. Without Your help, I wonât be sharing this letter to the people in front of me right now. Thank you so much, and I will always be thankful to you.
                                                   Your Child,

1. Have a Positive Mental Attitude- Prime yourself at being always comfortable and confident that u can do a lot better at studying. Remember that you are studying things that will prove to be valuable in real life. 2. Prepare your Work Space- Look for a place in your home or bedroom where u think u can study and maintain concentration in your work. Have materials stocked up and in place before your study. This way, u can finish your work without any interruptions. 3. Avoid Cramming- study an hour a day even when thereâs no homework. Scan your notebooks and do a little advanced reading of your textbooks. You can also research through the internet to learn more about the topics u are covering in school.  I suggest google scholar, itâs like google but for students, it has the citations, and filters results so that only helpful outcomes appear. 4. Do projects with more enthusiasm and creativity- Donât be afraid to think of new ideas or ways to present your homework or projects. Teachers always give additional points to students who show great effort in their works. SO, donât be afraid to do something original, do something that hasnât been done before. 5. Raise Your Hand- Be active and establish a friendly attitude towards your teachers. Offer to help them out in checking some work, filing papers or just carrying their things. Little good things add up in the end for that extra effort grade, and theyâll always remember you as a very helpful student. 6. Enjoy Reading the Latest News- Find connections or associations with your life as a student, as a child, as a friend, or as a citizen. Certain reports would always ask for u to react so better be ahead with current events which you may be affected with. 7. Listen to Your Teacher, take a few notes- In my experience, the more i copy and take down notes, the more i get lost in the lecture. It is best to listen first and understand before u jot down any important keywords. Yes, use keywords, simple doodles and arrows to make associations. These will help u remember all concepts mentally. 8. Keep Notes on Index Cards- I use personally use the smaller oxford ones, they are more portable honestly pretty aesthetic..  9. Watch TV Wisely- Yep you heard it, TV, when watching TV I sometimes pick up points which may seem relevant in my life. They sometimes even have something to do with whatâs happening in class at the moment so, always initiate conversation about the latest shows and issues you have watched. Donât be afraid to argue and defend your opinions.Â

LONDON IS NOT FALLING DOWN
âLondon bridge is falling down, falling downâ. Probably one of the most clichĂ© song that one can hear but everyone really knows that this majestic and eye-catching tourist attraction city is not falling down, it may be economically, or literally the London Bridge itself, well, it isnât falling, but one thing is assured, you will fall to its beauteous features. Brace yourselves. Fasten your seatbelts. Prepare your tickets as we will be enjoying and be fascinated by the majestic, leading global city, London.
Let me tell you about certain things on why this esteemed place is considered as one of the most visited and renowned cities in the world. London is crowned as the worldâs largest financial centre and is leading in the fields of entertainment, media, professional services, research and development, and tourism. No wonder why it is also the most visited city as measured by international arrivals and take note, since lots of tourists is visiting this place, it has also the worldâs largest city airport system measured by passenger traffic. Amazed now? Here are more of the magnificent tourist attractions where you should go when you go to London.
The top art museums in the world, London's National Gallery represents an almost complete survey of European painting from 1260 until 1920. The museum's greatest strengths are in its collections of Dutch Masters and Italian Schools of the 15th and 16th centuries. Among its highlights are a cartoon (preliminary sketch) of the Madonna and Child by Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo's The Entombment, Botticelli's Venus and Mars, van Gogh's Sunflowers, and The Waterlily Pond by Monet.
Kew Gardens, officially called the Royal Botanic Gardens - is situated in southwest London on the south bank of the Thames and is a wonderful place to spend time as you enjoy the numerous plants grown amidst its 300-acres. Laid out in 1759, the gardens became government property in 1841. In 1897 Queen Victoria added Queen's Cottage and the adjoining woodland. A variety of tours are available free with admission, and many musical and cultural events are held here throughout the year.
The market halls of Covent Garden are only the beginning of the neighborhood, which encompasses the shops and restaurants of Long Acre and other adjacent streets, those of Neal's Yard and Seven Dials, as well as the Central Square with its street performers. The halls and arcades of Covent Garden Market are lined with specialty shops and kiosks selling everything from fine handcrafts to tacky souvenirs. Housed in the former flower market, you'll find the London Transport Museum, filled with historic buses, trolleys, and trams. This area is also where you'll find the Royal Opera House.
Two of London's best-known tourist spots, these famous squares lie not far apart and mark the gateways to Soho, London's lively theater and entertainment district. Trafalgar Square was built to commemorate Lord Horatio Nelson's victory over the French and Spanish at Trafalgar in 1805. Nelson's Column, a 56-meter granite monument, overlooks the square's fountains and bronze reliefs, which were cast from French cannons. Admiralty Arch, St Martin-in-the-Fields, and the National Gallery surround the square. Piccadilly Circus marks the irregular intersection of several busy streets - Piccadilly, Regent, Haymarket, and Shaftesbury Avenue - and overlooking this somewhat untidy snarl of traffic stands London's best-known sculpture, the winged Eros delicately balanced on one foot, bow poised. "It's like Piccadilly Circus" is a common expression describing a busy and confusing scene.
Another location with a long association with British royalty, Westminster Abbey stands on a site that's been associated with Christianity since the early 7th century. Officially known as the Collegiate Church of St Peter in Westminster, Westminster Abbey was founded by Edward the Confessor in 1065 as his place of interment. From his burial in 1066 until that of George II almost 700 years later, most sovereigns were not only crowned here but they were buried here too. More recently, it's become famous as the preferred location for Royal Weddings.
The largest and most famous of London's many churches - and undoubtedly one of the most spectacular cathedral's in the world - St Paul's Cathedral sits atop the site of a Roman temple. The previous church structure was destroyed in the Great Fire of 1666, and Sir Christopher Wren designed the re-build. Today, the twin Baroque towers and magnificent 365 ft dome of St Paul's are a masterpiece of English architecture. If you're up to it, be sure to walk the stairs with their spectacular views of the dome's interior, including the Whispering Gallery.
And lastly, brace yourselves with this eye-popping tourist attraction, the Londonâs Eye. Built to mark London's millennium celebrations in 2000, the London Eye is Europe's largest observation wheel. Its individual glass capsules offer the most spectacular views of the city as you embark on a circular tour rising 443 ft above the Thames. The journey lasts 30-minutes, often quicker than the time spent queuing for your turn. If you can, reserve your time in advance. The best option is to skip the line completely with a London Eye: Skip-the-Line Ticket. This advance ticket allows you to take a flight at any time on the day you plan to visit.
Now save money. Book a flight. And learn the British accent to enjoy the beauty of London.

Repost đ
As an individual, we can relate our lives to those people who took care for us in their womb for the span of 9 months, our mothers. They are the ones who did everything for us. From the day that we were born, the day we uttered our first word, up until now that we realize our worth and mission in this very world, all of those, mothers had their sacrifices, sleepless nights and stressful moments. They may put that smile just to show to us that they are happy, strong, but the truth is, theyâre tired, tired of that cyclical thing that theyâve been doing for so long. As the poem insinuates praise from up above, gratitude, and love of a mother, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, the author of this poem, also a mother, has also experienced such trials, ups and downs in life. Challenged with medical conditions and health issues, neglected by his father for the forbidden love that he found with English poet, Robert Browning, she has still become a woman of sense and everything. She still continued to write poems, inspired y his son to do more and be thankful for everything despite of experiencing such terrible events of her life.
For me, having those kind of experiences and challenges would really be a great motivation and inspiration no matter how hard life is. I am really thankful for what I have and where I am now, because experiencing those molded me into what I am now and it helped me to become a better person. I am also very thankful to Him that He never left me in those times when I needed Him most.

Finally, I found the good in goodbye.
Will you hold me tight and not let go?
HAIL TO THE NEW QUEEN!
âA thousand stories untold, yet one of them is to be told. Itâs an exigency of a dreamer who continued believing that there is likelihood if you just clench on with the rope tighter. That there is sun after every storm, and that love comes in various form. That in the runway of life itâs hard to walk, and that chasing your dream is the most challenging catwalk.â
Indeed, life for him is a stage filled with underdogs and queens. Is he an underdog? The hailed âQueenâ perhaps? Only the greatest âJudgeâ will know.
I want to take everyone back to the placid evening of July 13, 1997, when the silver moon is beaming gloriously and was jovial to gleam to the new born child of Mr. Gerardo E. Carpio and Mrs. Beverly P. Carpio. It was a healthy baby boy and was the sixth child in the family alongside with Mark Gerard, Mie Gerardin, Maria Gretta, Marx Gerr and Muriel Grace. The house is now a delighted home because of this exquisite and fragile gift.
As days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months and months turned into years, this child is now ready to make a big step to school and was enrolled in Macanhan Elementary School to pursue his six-year primary education. After conquering all the âChinese garterâ years, he is now ready to take a full crack in the pace of his fast changing learning environment. There he is, sitting in the corner, timid and silent, but his diligence, prudence, and wise answers gave pride to Carmen National High School, where he graduated as Fifth honors in his batch.
But sometimes in a studentsâ journey, we cannot evade to hear comments and indescribable criticisms towards us and towards our selfless achievements, and whatâs more throbbing is when these comments are coming from the mouths of our parents who were never appeased of what we have become. Pretty hurts isnât it? But the hero of this bio-sketch never faltered, he didnât let the words swallow him whole, he called to his pillow and cried out all the frustrations, and the next morning he fueled his engine and felt brave once again. He used his full bright smile as a façade of his sequestered soul.
Our dreamer is finally in college and on the track of shaping his career as a future teacher and educator. He is currently attending school at Liceo de Cagayan University where he found treasures that he thought would be impossible to find. The first treasure that made him aspire more is when he became one of the City College Scholarship Program grantees of the city of Cagayan de Oro. In his stay at the university, it was fate who decided when he met his best friends in the person of Nap, Cloie, Levi, Meagan, Ivy, Arianne, Faith, Kate and Charmaine, together with these people, he experienced how to be someone amidst the middling society.
In class, he was pronounced as a handsome, clean, and well-groomed man, who in spite of being a steadfast member of the LGBTQ federation, heâs still able to make girls stick around him. Obviously, he is hardworking and a good life coach, and I tell you he is fun to be with, take it from his gorgeous best friends and classmates. One of the best things that youâll experience when youâre around this person is that he always talks about beauty pageants, may it be local, national, or international, and he knows it all. I donât know but, the love for âBeauty Contestsâ is already streaming in his veins. He also enjoys watching Volleyball and Basketball during his free time and would love to indulge himself in chatting and posting things through his Instagram, Twitter and Facebook accounts. I remember once when he told me in one of our casual conversations that it is sometimes good to keep our pride so that people (people he hates) will also realize that theyâre not as exciting as they think they are, he can be a lion when provoked too.
Now, he is at the peak of his tertiary education, and none of these accomplishments would have happened if he didnât live his life straight to the path of his dreams. His works alone can define how great of a person he is. Heâs not just a friend nor a classmate, not just a typical missossologist nor a volleyball fanatic. He is the âQueenâ of his victorious kingdom, with a throne made of stone, his scepter the moon, his crown the sun, and his cape embellished with stars. He is Mr.Kyrnyx Zeus Porras Carpio.
An open book to my life :)
