The Old West -ย 1 in 4 cowboys were Black in the 1800s.ย
White men referred to themselves as cattlemen, whereas Black men (and Black women) solely were called cowboys, which was a derogatory word. Hence โboyโ instead of โman,โ and other negative things they grouped with it for the formerly enslaved in the United States.
A cattleman is a person who owns cattle while a cowboy is a person who herds and tends to the damn cattle. The epitome of a hard workerโฆwhich is why that shit was bulldozed and scooped up for their initial signature imagery in Hollywood.
Then Black Americans just vibing out, unknowingly made yet another new style of music later referred to as country music, which blended Negro spirituals, the blues and jazz paired with the banjo, and white men decided to merge the two as their own: cowboys + country music. Thatโs another topic.
Our cowboy/cowboy tradition is solidified in Black American culture all across the country where we exist, regardless if weโre finally heavily depicted as such in pop culture or not. That ainโt never letting up.

t is believed that Solitude was born as a result of her mother being raped by a white sailor while she was being transported on a slave ship from Africa. She was sold into slavery in Guadeloupe.
โSolitude was called โLa Mulรขtresseโ (Female Mulatto). Mulatto is an offensive spanish term used to refer to mixed race people (white and black)
-She was initially a slave but freed after abolition of slavery in the French colonies in 1794 after the Haitian Revolution, then in 1802 Napoleon wanted to reintroduce slavery so Solitude, now pregnant, joined the rebellion led by mulatto leader Louis Delgrรจs with her followers.
-Plantation owners had become desperate trying to find workers for the fields. They appealed for help to the French Head of State, Napoleon Bonaparte, who responded by sending a large military expeditionary force to reimpose slavery on the island.
-Despite being pregnant, she fearlessly fought all the way to the final defeat when they got outnumbered by french troops though for one.
-The last bow for freedom, a suicide mission, once the troops had gained in on their territory, the rebels blew up the troopโs gunpowder blowing them up killing them and some of the rebels though Solitude was among the survivors.
-Solitude was imprisoned by the French and because she was pregnant at the time, she was not to be hanged until November 29 in 1802, one day after giving birth. Rest in Power!
-On May 10, 2022 she became the very first statue of a Black woman inaugurated in Paris.

The history of barbering can be traced back over 5,000 years to ancient Egypt. Egyptians placed great importance on personal grooming and hygiene, and barbers were considered essential members of society. They were responsible for cutting and styling hair, as well as trimming beards and shaving the heads of priests, who were required to maintain a clean-shaven appearance. Ancient Egyptian barbers used bronze razors and other tools to perform their tasks, and their skills were often passed down through generations...
