A playful smirk played across her face when Noah said that he’d do anything for her. She knew it was true. Prior to her rise in popularity, they’d been thick as thieves, Noah was always someone who could keep up with her and mona could keep up with him so she always appreciated the friendship. While she didn’t always show it, the same went for him, she would still do anything for him despite not being as close.

“I’m glad you asked.” Mona began. “I am looking to create a basic, aesthetically clean portfolio to put all of my work that I did at the Star on. That will be the first one, in addition I am either going to create a second portfolio or something highlighting my biology and math expertise, because if I’m being honest, I am still unsure of which path I’m wanting to take.” Being a good student had it’s perks but it also had its downfalls. Mona was skilled in all of the major subject areas, so she was unsure of what track she wanted to take.

It was refreshing being able to have shop talk with Mona about portfolios and school and where to go afterwards. Intellect was something Noah fed on, a meeting of minds and skills. Together, no doubt they could take over the world. At least, that’s what they’d always said to each other when younger. “Oh yes, of course. I loved your work, by the way. Sublime, as per usual.” he praised, knowing she most certainly had the balls and skill to take on the Star as well as the world. “For that it’s going to be a fairly easy code, most likely could have it done in a hour or so. Then you can choose the custom layout, you could have it as a click to each article or have snippets of them on a constant loop to allow people to pick which one from there....the world is your oyster.” he mused as the laptop finished loading. 

“Password please.” he instructed, knowing he could hack it within a second but boundaries were boundaries when Mona was involved. “In regards to Biology and Math, maybe we could do both? Let’s make three, it would involve of course plying your good friend Noah with plenty of caffeine and unhealthy snacks....but we could make an evening of it. Don’t worry, you can hide out at mine so people don’t see you slumming it with the losers of the school.” he said with a teasing tone. 

It wasn’t often that Mona found herself at Nightmare Level, but when she did it was because she needed Noah’s help. The two weren’t currently as close as they’d been in the past, but Mona knew that he’d always end up having her back, and she’d have his. She chuckled lightly to herself when he explained that they couldn’t fire him, of course he was the only one who knew, he’d probably set it all up too. 

“I’m building an online portfolio and I wanted to do some custom coding. It’s not my strong suit as you know, so I was wondering if you’d be willing to take a look and help me tweak some of the things that aren’t working.” Mona stated as she placed the laptop up on the counter. 

Noah rarely held a grudge, it wasn’t in his nature. And despite how he and Mona had fell out of touch with each other the past couple of years, he couldn’t be mad for her striving and achieving something both of them had aimed for in the past. Whereas Noah had accepted his role in high school and became confident in being the savant-genius outcast, she had risen in popularity and ruled with her own beauty and intellect. But those times the both of them were brought together, namely surrounding technical problems, Noah appreciated her presence. It wasn’t often he was lucky to be around a woman who could match him on the best of days. “For you? Anything. What sort of portfolio are we going for?” he asked, opening up her laptop and turning it to face him as he waited for it to boot up. 

“I’m assuming a club. I just need to be hooked up with a  guy that could do it. I’m afraid I couldn’t give you much more information than that. However, if you help me I can assure you that you will have quite the pay out for helping me.” Veronica smiled at Noah before looking him in the eyes. “So, do we have a deal of you finding me a guy to make them or no?”

“I can do it for you, I have the stuff needed. Probably best we keep matters like this between fewer people than required. Who’s the I.D for? I’d need a passport style photo....” despite his qualms at helping out Veronica Lodge and whoever she wanted to help, money was money at the end of the day. 

Veronica knew this was a dumb idea, but due to her needing a fake I.D that looked sort of real with her alias on it was a good idea. That way she had one with her wig and such, so no one would be able to question that Lunar Rhodes was indeed her in a blonde wig. “So, um, do you know where I could get a fake I.D?” Veronica whispered to just where Noah could hear her. The last thing she needed was someone finding out or hearing and telling her father that she was planning on getting fake I.D’s for her friends or something that would be put against herself. “If not, it’s cool. This guy I was seeing, you know those gang types, wanted me to see if I could find someone.”

Fake I.D’s? He didn’t even think it was still a thing. With so many resources at teenagers' fingertips nowadays it seemed almost a past time scoring an ID. But still, business was business and he leaned closer. “Depends, what sort of level ID are we wanting? To pass a carding at a club door or something more government passable?” at the mention of a gang type, he tried not to think about potentially helping them out. Especially if it were the serpents, whom Noah hated just due to their treatment of Emma. 

in all truthfulness , emma didn’t know how to navigate through this barrier that now existed between them. it made everything feel out of place. “ why are you apologizing when I kissed you back ? it wasn’t just you that made a decision that night , so no one was taking advantage of anyone . “ the line of her lips tightened into a frown as she looked away for a moment. she knew Noah very well , but there was that fear that maybe she should have stopped the kiss when she did. ” I think I just need more time to figure everything out , maybe it was too soon for that kiss to happen … “ She was hesitant to say it , but she had been wondering that endlessly when their dynamic took a heavy hit. And she was pissed. She still felt that irritation but she couldn’t deny that she wanted him back. ” But … That doesn’t mean that the kiss didn’t mean something to me , because it did. “

“I still feel it was my fault. I was just so happy you were back, I didn’t think things through. I didn’t think about your wellbeing, even if you did kiss me back.” he did feel guilty. He acted impulsively which was not the norm for him. He just felt sad now, sad that he had been the one to cause this rift and his actions afterwards left this ugly, uncomfortable blockade between them. His hand began playing with the sleeve of his shirt as he looked anywhere but at Emma. Not wanting to see the hurt in her eyes. The hurt he had caused. “As much....as much as it is eating me up inside, I don’t regret it. But I do regret adding this...confusion to you when you’ve already been through so much. It meant something to me, my first proper kiss. I wanted it to be special, always and I suppose...I just always wanted it to be you. But like I said, I don’t expect anything from you and don’t feel you have to be considerate to my feelings. I just want my friend, because you mean too much to me to lose you again.” 

“Mhmm.” Audrey hummed in response. She turned to him when he pulled out and headed toward the school. “No. It would totally be very un best friend of you to do so.” She commented in a teasing way. “So, are you excited to get the last year done and out of the way?”

The idea of school being finished this year was something Noah had been thinking about a lot. High School had been a whirlwind of memories, regrets, and then some. The idea of leaving it behind was something Noah was excited for. “I suppose so, yes. The fact I’ll be soon out of this town and going to Brown- hell even MIT. I haven’t really made my mind up yet. I want to see how much they’ll each put on the table offer wise. Make them sweat it out. But being able to put this whole place behind me is like that shining beacon of light to Gondor in the distance.” he said, smile wide with pride. He had interest already even before sending out applications, but he still needed to make his own decision.“No doubt this year will drag though. What about you?”

He hadn’t been himself, nothing had really made sense to him since he’d kissed her. The last thing he had wanted was to ruin the friendship between them, but it seemed the damage had already been done. He didn’t know how to make it right. “No. I guess I haven’t. It’s my fault, okay? But I said we needed to have full transparency so I’ll just.....say it. I had a freakout over what happened and I’m sorry, for doing what I did. It wasn’t right and I don’t want you to hate me for taking advantage of you because that’s what I did. I acted impulsively and I’m just...sorry.” if it had been a mistake, he just wanted them to get past it. “Just know, I don’t expect anything from you or anything to come out of what happened between us. I just need my friend and for us to be okay and I know I need to make it up to you.”

emma wasn’t happy about the situation at all , but she also couldn’t help but feel worried. it only led for her to not dislike sebastian’s company. which was progress that she didn’t expect. but it also wasn’t the company she was hoping for. and to make matters worse , she could tell something was up, a frown adorned her lips as she parked her car in the parking lot and there’s that tightening in her chest as she looked at him. unsure of how to feel about the situation , she couldn’t brush it off. “ hey , you wanted to talk ? “ she greeted neutrally as her arms folded against her chest. she wasn’t exactly sure how many times she could handle the shift in energies. one moment she’s in her comfort zone and then it collapsed. 

He had heard the car arrive, but he was still caught up in his head and it was only when she spoke did he whirl around suddenly. “Emma...yes, hey....yeah. Uh, are you....doing okay?” it felt unnatural, but he couldn’t just come straight out with everything going on in his head. He hated that things felt off with them and that he was the root cause of it. 

Audrey yanked her headphones out of her ears. “Jesus, Noah! Way to creep up on a girl.” She rounded the car to the passenger’s side and opened the door. “I’m assuming you call over to me to offer me a ride.” She tossed her bag into the back and hopped in, fastening her seat belt. “And if not, it’s the least you could do for being a creep.” 

“Well, I am a creepy guy....” he commented, waiting until Audrey was fastened in before moving it back into gear. “And yes, the idea was to give you a lift. Can’t let my best friend walk now for our senior year, can I?”

Audrey had a love/hate relationship with the first day of school. While it was another year closer to her getting out and on her own and accomplishing what she truly wants to do in life, it comes with going back a place that wasn’t necessarily kind to her.

She finished her bowl of cereal and placed it in the sink, careful not to make too much noise to not wake her parents, before she headed out on her way to school. She liked walking to school instead of taking the bus because she didn’t have to deal with people before it was absolutely necessary. She popped her headphones in as she descended her front steps.

She had a few moments of bliss with her music blasted in her ears before she noticed somebody trying to grab her attention.

He wasn’t taking any chances with the school bus, not now he had his car. A gift for his senior year, he was intent of making good use for it. Perhaps he should’ve texted before setting off to Audrey’s, but he knew her schedule well but it seemed she had left a minute or so earlier as he saw her retreating back further down the street and he honked the horn a couple of times. 

When she didn’t respond, he sped up to reach her before slowing down and winding down his window. He waved his arm in her general direction, wondering if throwing the water bottle at her would get him better notice. “JENSEN!”

“I know it may come as a surprise, but I really need this done… Like now, it’s important.” Brooke stated simply. She pulled out a nail file from her purse to file her nails before turning her attention back to Noah. “No, none of that happens. It also won’t take a charge. Is it completely fried? If it is I can just get my dad to buy me a new one, but I’m wondering if there’s anything you can do for it while I wait for the new one. Like I said it’s really important. I need it as soon as possible.” 

“That depends, did you get it wet at all or drop it somewhere wet? If its not taking charge either its most likely the mainboard and circuit in which case-” he looked up and tapped his palm, before rubbing two of his fingers together as he gave her a look. “-time costs money and something this scale means I’ll have to stop all my other projects. I could most likely, if its not a complete circuit rework, have it by tomorrow or the next day. And your precious bills will solve another one of my problems.” 

“ you’re lucky ? “ the words left her , catching her at a disbelief. her heart thudded recklessly in her chest , the way he looked at her shouldn’t have had the effect it did. but when someone could say the words that touch you in an intimate way , it could leave anyone second guessing what they’ve always believed in. the touch of his lips sent a fire blazing in her chest as her heart pounded through it. the cautious kiss was reciprocated with one of her own , as lips moved with his. maybe she should have pulled away , but nothing in her mind flagged it or urged her to make that call. never in a million years could she ever predict this and with Noah ? she didn’t shy away from it as it felt … natural.

It was happening. Something which he had dreamed of, pictured, imagined and mapped in countless thoughts and night time wanderings. The way she responded, made his heart quicken and his fingers shake against her skin even more as he tried not to panic at the fact she was kissing back. It was his first kiss, apart from practice on his wrist and elbow (hey, he was curious by nature, he had to gain some knowledge of it) and although it remained tentative and gentle, it set his veins alight. He didn’t know how this would end, so if this would be his only chance, he wasn’t going to waste it and all thoughts about salvaging and taking it back or seeing if she was regretting it left him as he willed his hands to stop shaking pathetically and he returned the kiss with more firmness and surety. 

he wasn’t wrong , noah knew more about her than anyone else. it’s not an exaggerated fact , only the details she kept within were able to be buried. one way or another , they always come out to him. “ not sure if that means i’m incredibly lucky … or unluckly. “ she confesses with an honesty that shook up her entire mindset. when they were alone , everything felt just as it should. the world didn’t entirely matter while it still weighed heavily on her mind. unlucky in the sense of where it could feel wrong to have bursts of butterflies around your best friend.

The film had finished, the screen now black and the room so quiet he could hear his heartbeat thudding in his chest. He could feel his palms were covered in a light sheen as both of them seemed suspended in that moment. He shouldn’t be feeling like this, at least, he shouldn’t be entertaining it. It was going to lead to nothing but him and his heart breaking if he did the one thing he had wanted to do for a long while. Even whilst he chased Riley those months Emma was gone, there had always been something stopping him from going further. It would always be Emma. “I would go with lucky....” at least, that was the option he’d choose. How many people could say they had someone in their life who truly knew them? He knew when she was worried, by the way she bit her lower lip. When she was lying or bending the truth by twirling a lock of her hair, when she was concentrating by her brow would wrinkling ever so slightly. “I know I’m lucky to have you know everything about me.” he added, with a small shrug as his eyes involuntary glanced to her lips, the urge creeping up more even though he knew it was wrong to feel like this. But life was a risk, right? There was no plan for this, nothing he could study or watch to learn. It just had to be an instinct thing and he bit the bullet by quickly darting in and pressing his lips against hers in a soft, hesitant kiss.
