Models Own Splash Collection Swatches
Hello! Well it's been quite a swatchathon this week, I do promise that normal nail art service will resume shortly...but I had to show you these pretties that I picked up the other day. This is the new Models Own Splash Collection.
There are five polishes in this collection; Red Sea, Golden Shore, Pink Paradise, Mermaid Tears and Aqua Splash. These polishes retail at £5 each, however they are currently on 3 for 2 at Boots, so you can pick yourself up this collection (plus an extra polish from Models Own) for £20. Bargain glitterama!
Lets have a look at the bottles! Sparkly goodness! These polishes are all chock full of shards of glittery flakes in a coloured jelly base.
So, starting off with Red Sea. Out of all the polishes, this has the base with the most colour in it, so I think you could layer it up and use it on its own. I put a base colour of Barry M Passion Fruit underneath this and applied two coats. This has got some beautiful tones to the glitter when you tilt it in the light, there's pinky purple shades and golden orange in there. I think this one is probably my favourite.
Next up we have Golden Shore. The colour to this polsih, like the rest I am going to show you really is too thin to use on its own, so I put this over a base colour of Barry M Mango. This is full of gold flakes of glitter. It almost looks like gold leaf on my nails. This is two coats of Golden Shore.
Here is Pink Paradise. Out of the whole collection, this is the only one that has tiny shimmery bits of glitter in addition to the larger flakes, which I do like. Again, I've layered this over a base colour (Collection Cosmetics Hoola Hoop). This is two coats of Pink Paradise.
Next we have Mermaid Tears. I would say this probably my least favourite out of the bunch, as it was quite difficult to get the flakes of glitter onto my nail, and some of the pieces (e.g. on my little finger) look a bit too big. However, the colours of the flakes are beautiful and again, switch between green and purple in the light. I put a base colour of Sinful Colors Verbena, and then two coats of Mermaid Tears.
Finally, Aqua Splash. I love the colours of the glitter flakes in this polish, turquoise sparkles! I put a base colour of Barry M Guava, and then two coats of Aqua Splash.
So, what do you think? Overall, I feel the need to point out that you do need to work a bit with the placement of the glitter flakes on your nails, as sometimes not that many come out on your brush, and because of the consistency of the polish, too many layers are going to create a gloopy mess, so you do need to be careful. Also, I have a feeling that rather than matching the base colour to the colour in the bottle, that these polishes might actually look even better over a black basecoat, which I will endeavour to show you soon!
