This is my 3rd time rewatching this but i'm still super excited hehe ..

the episode starts with AE3803 ( a very ditzy red blood cell , i'm pretty sure she's actually a sickle cell due to her ahoge being shaped just like one ) getting attacked by a bunch of pneumococcus bacteria , when U-1146 comes to rescue her . ( he's a white blood cell from the neutrophil division , and he looks so bad ass (,,> ᴗ <,,) guhh i love him )

After they part their ways , AE3803 , who has a HORRIBLE sense of direction , wanders around on her way to deliver oxygen , but ends up lost and . . . face to face with a pneumococcus ( again , my poor girl ) . She ends up smashing the door in its face and getting yelled at for pretending it didn't happen . . . BUT U-1146 finds them and attempts to fight them off , but the bacteria pins him and 3803 down after tossing a capsule ( his bacteria shell ) , he continues following it all the way to the lungs even though he's still in the capsule , dragging 3803 along hehe , which ends up being kinda helpful since that was where she was supposed to go anyway .

U-1146 explains that the germ is a pneumococcus bacterium , a bacteria that can cause pneumonia, but it can also cause a condition called pneumococcal bacteremia . Simply put , it'd be bad for the body if they just let him escape .

His receptors go off , but the bacteria is nowhere to be seen ( oh boy , i wonder where it could be ! ) , they keep making their way to the lungs anyways , coming across the cutest little things , a road block of platelets , who are struggling to fix a mistake with delivery , the two blood cells help them out , then continue on their way .

Mysteriously , when they part ways , U-1146's receptors stop going off , and after getting some help from her senior , AE3803 finally makes it to the lungs !

When she arrives , the pneumococcus they were looking for bursts out of her oxygen box , and attacks her ( why does she have horrible luck ? ) . Fortunately white blood cells are transmigrating cells , meaning he can move through blood vessels to reach the bacteria .

He gets captured in the bacteria's capsule again , but he has a plan this time !

1146 and 3803 retreat to the bronchial tubes , the bacteria following them , where he gets captured by a capsule launched by 1146 , which he has no way to break ! While the bacteria is getting dealt with , the blood cells go out to get some tea together , when they see a rocket launch , a sneeze , which is one of the ways the body gets rid of bacteria .

The episode ends with the two telling each other they might never see each other again , since there's so many other cells in the body .

This episode is one of my favorites simply because of how nostalgic it is , i remember watching it for the first time and immediately falling in love with U-1146 , he's so brave (⸝⸝๑ ̫ ๑⸝⸝⸝) .

It's a great adaptation from the manga and so accurate to how the human body actually works , even down to the pneumococcus being blue , which is because they're gram-positive bacteria that get stained blue in labs !

Overall it's an amazing introduction to an anime and really gets you invested in the world and biology in general , you can tell the mangaka and team were super passionate when writing it .

u-1146 is the type of boyfriend who is, above all else, extremely reliable — as well as quite sweet… in his own unusual sort of way

his main love language is absolutely acts of service (i.e. if you ever decide to surprise him by mending his uniform after a long day or by bringing him more gluten when you know he’s busy then he’ll absolutely melt), but he likely also appreciates being on the receiving end of words of affirmation from you… especially after a particularly gruelling fight, like after his run in with that cancer cell a while back

he’s not a big fan of pda by any stretch of the imagination — to the extent that you’d be lucky to get him to hold your hand or kiss you on the cheek in front of just your mutual friends. it’s not that he’s shy or ashamed of your relationship, far from it in fact, it’s just that he’s a private person by nature and doesn’t particularly like drawing attention to himself like that

his kisses are, more often than not, on the chaster side —brief and timid and rarely given at the earlier stages of your relationship (almost as if he was afraid you’d shatter like glass or leave if he was too eager or too passionate), but gradually becoming more intentional and common as he grows more confident in being physically affectionate with you, and always paired with a promise or declaration (that he’ll be safe, that he’ll come home to you, that he’ll protect the body with everything he has, that he loves you, etc.)

his favourite places to kiss you are on your lips, your fingertips, and the space between your eyes

his favourite places to be kissed are his cheeks, his lips, and on the palms of his hands

while he does usually prefer using actual names over pet names (especially in public settings), u-1146 isn’t opposed to you slipping in the occasional term of endearment with him when you’re alone. and you can be as silly or sweet as you like as long as you make sure you’re out of earshot of any other cells (just be aware that he will fluster quite significantly if you do a good enough job of catching him off guard with them — like he’ll go completely red in the face and may even lose the ability to form a coherent sentence for a few moments before he regains some semblance of composure)

if you’re really insistent on him using a pet name for you then he’d probably choose something a bit more traditional (like ‘sweetheart’) — and, again, he’d only use it sparingly and in private

u-1146 is incredibly protective over you, and for good reason, but he’s usually pretty good at just keeping you happy and safe without ever becoming too overbearing or patronising — though if you insist you can handle a situation on your own then he’s more than happy to step back and leave you be, only intervening if absolutely necessary

it almost goes without saying that u-1146, being an immune cell, has very limited free time — and that whatever free time he does get is constantly at risk of being disrupted and cut short by yet another invasion of bacteria or viruses or goodness knows what else — and, unfortunately, there’s not much he can do to change that fact after the two of you become an item. though, of course, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t make the most of the time he gets to spent with you or that he doesn’t do his best to make up for his absence whenever and however he can

ae3803 was, naturally, one of the first people to find out that the two of you were a thing and she is without question your biggest supporter. she’s the one that helps u-1146 plan out your dates and decide on what gifts to get you whenever he’s struggling, the one to comfort and reassure you that your boyfriend is safe and that he’ll come back to you in one piece whenever the body gets invaded and he’s dragged out to the front lines once again, the one who will listen to both sides and help the two of you find a middle ground whenever you get into a fight, and so on and so forth.

your contact on his phone is the only one that isn’t just an unsaved number or a name — granted the only difference is that he added a heart at the end of your name, and that was because ae3803 insisted on it, and you still don’t have a contact photo, but hey a win is a win!
