It’s that time again, when this mun decides to be productive in order to thank everyone (all 300 of you, bless owo) for putting up with her.

This is NOT a reblogging contest (meaning the number of reblogs doesn’t count)! It’s a giveaway with a bit of a different twist to it. You are however encouraged to reblog in order to spread the word! ^^

Newt tried sleeping under the covers after he changed, but he became so anxious with the constricting sheets and the fear of scratching Hermann by accident that he quickly gave it up. Unfortunately, he then discovered how easily he got cold. Newt spent a few shivering nights, curled in on himself as tight as he could, on top of the bed, shoved as close to Hermann as possible. He tried the extra blankets, but always ended up having them tangled around his claws and tails sometime in the night.

Newt did eventually find a solution. One night he huffed off the bed, throwing the blankets off his tails, growling quietly. Can’t sleep IN the bed, can’t sleep ON the bed, he grumbled at himself, may as well just sleep on the damn FLOOR. He made as if to throw himself on the ground, arguably an even COLDER place to be, when he spotted Hermann’s coat hanging on the wall.

Hermann tried purchasing a larger sized coat after he noticed how Newt was tucking himself in at night. It took a month of the new coat sitting in a corner until Hermann asked why Newt wasn’t using the better option (his tails and feet didn’t entirely fit under the current arrangement). Newt’s spots brightened a teensy bit before he mumbled something about the new coat not smelling right.

Hermann looked ridiculous for the next month as he wore a coat four sizes too big everywhere he went.

"Much to his fellow scientist’s displeasure, his jaw went through the most drastic change first, removing his ability speak. Newt would eventually learn to manipulate the new mandible and the… unique… tongue enough to enable speech, but the man was entirely unused to being quiet. Hermann recorded an array of growls and yelps and high pitched wines that he would later play back and interpret (incorrectly) to Newt as a way to inject humor in to the situation. This method, Hermann noted, was an abject failure.

The other changes came, some more painful than others. While Hermann recorded the obvious contortions of pain Newt felt from his bones shifting and stretching, it was the reaction over the tattoos that broke his heart. Newt’s skin hardened and scaled and the colored lines and patterns were overtaken by a dark grey blue. Newt traced on his arms where the designs had been, never speaking (or giving out a low bird-like keening he had begun to do when upset), but just… tracing. Delicate lines only he saw and remembered, ever so carefully. He still wasn’t accustomed to the long claws yet.

Eventually, the meticulous records Hermann kept stopped. He wasn’t quite sure how to tactfully describe the tail. Or the tentacles. Especially the tentacles. He could describe quite a bit about the tentacles if he tried.

The last notes he did make were high compliments over Newt’s speech patterns. Low, lyrical, tones that were so unlike how he sounded before. The difference caused some dismay, at losing what Newt had once been, but then the purring would start. Hermann never told anyone about the purring. No one else would hear it after all.”

I get sidetracked with concepting things for illustrations. This is no different. Wasn’t happy with that initial concept idea I had first posted, so went back to develop a little bit more. God, and I’m not even entirely a Newmann fan, but it’s so damn fun. How weird is that?
