Excellent comments.  I would add that owning up to the “errors of youth” only shows ultimate maturity.  The media, especially in the US, should stop being myopic and petty.  They should look at themselves before writing the first word.  Hold the royals to a higher standard?  Yes.  They represent their respective nations and citizens to the world.  Criticize them for youthful indiscretions?  Again I say, and paraphrase someone with far more knowledge than I:  let he/she who is among us who have not made errors cast the first stones.  I’d far rather have royals who put their trousers on one leg at a time and who know their sh@* stinks just like everyone else.

I have to say that Maxima is one class act, one classy lady - without putting distance between herself and everyone else.  Gee, isn’t that a part of the definition of charisma?

I totally get what you’re saying about delving deep to flush out the historical, social, political and economical consequences that occurred due to family matters between monarchies and countries.  Of course, the reign of Victoria, with her widespread children and their royal marriages, is a fine example of that.  I suspect the Romanov family was much the same although the highest aristocracy mostly seems to have married outside the country.  It would be interesting to know of other royal families in similar situations.

I believe this event can be more closely compared to the U.S. State of the Union Address where two branches of the government formally communicate ideas and positions.  This is especially unique in modern times as, constitutionally, the monarch is required to be neutral on government activities.  I do not believe it is a event to spotlight/enhance the royal family as such.

Now that’s EXACTLY what a good film festival is about:  make the audience THINK and always remember you won’t please everyone.

Lordy but he got home fast!  Wasn’t he still in NZ just yesterday?  Hope he slept well on the plane to be able to play well today.

I’ll second the sentiment here.  This is a delightful blog.  I truly enjoy the juxtaposition of lesser known works of well known artists as well as the better works of lesser known artists.
