There’s always a huge thrill to sending your very first mission to a new world, pioneering the unknown, blazing trails, and breaking new ground.  But it’s a pain to have to launch a swarm of comms satellites in addition in order to keep your pathfinder functioning.  So my solution takes a page from real life, and uses the adorable QBE probe core to create basic cubesats that can hitchhike on pretty much all but the smallest missions with barely any additional space costs, and can be deployed during various stages of orbital capture and insertion to establish a barebones communication network.

In addition, the Planetary Base Systems’ inline storage segment is just the perfect size to function as a launcher for these babies, in convenient packs of 4 or 8:

Like most well-adjusted people, I’ve got an extensive library I listen to.  However, unlike most people, I store mine as URLs of the relevant YouTube videos.  That means that I could share my musical tastes with anybody who keeps tabs on this blog.  But just sharing songs is no fun, it’s the exact same as what everyone else does.  So what I’m doing is different.  I’m gonna share a song I like, and then give commentary on it, my thoughts and feelings on the song.  So I’ll basically be an amateur music critic.  (Fair warning though, my music tastes are almost entirely comprised of 80′s music.)

So for the first, inaugural song, I’m gonna start off on a ridiculously happy (almost saccharine) note, with “Pop Goes The World”:

I think that this kind of pure positive energy is something that’s increasingly lacking in today’s world, and it’s really something that oughta cheer anybody up.

As I mentioned in my original post, I’m a big fan of Kerbal Space Program, and intend to keep this blog regularly updated with my exploits in the Kerbol system.  But as for now, the introductory post to that, I’ll just leave you with this anomaly I discovered when playing with the map, which I invite anybody who’s willing to explain:

My personal guess is that Kerbol has a Kuiper Belt of a single object.

A few months back, I was working on a school project that essentially involved creating a scrapbook of current events for 2018, when I was suddenly struck with inspiration to create this cover for the book.  I’m really proud of it, and honestly I think it’s fairly representative of 2018 in general.

So here we have it, the grand inaugural post of my shiny new blog!  First impressions count, so I’m hoping to impress!

I’m Sophie (she/her), and I’m located in one of the last places you’d expect someone like me to be.  I’ll leave specifics up to you to guess.  I’m a tomboy and proud of it, and knowing that could tell you more than a little about me.

As for my interests and passions, I like to say that I have the heart of a scientist and the brain of an engineer.  

I have the heart of a scientist because that’s where my interests, dreams, and aspirations lie.  I have a deep and abiding desire to always know more, to never stop learning more about the world we live in, and seek out the truths that underlie our perceptions and lives.  It’s where I find the truest and most inspiring beauty, and it drives my interest into art as well.  I desire a way to express and show the kind of beauty I see in the natural world and the quest for truth, and that gives me no end of inspiration for art that I’m proud of.

I have the brain of an engineer because I find also myself endlessly fascinated with technology, both in the abstract sense that it is at its core humanity using our scientific knowledge to express and exert our will on the universe, and in the practical sense that the workings of stuff, like machines, gadgets, buildings, star systems, and even things like plots and worldbuilding, are all immensely fascinating to dissect, take apart, study, understand, and assemble into original creations of my own.   I love breaking things down and making them anew.

In a more practical sense, I’m a huge astronomy and physics nerd, and enjoy most stuff related to space and the universe.  I’m also really into playing games of various kinds, mostly sandbox games (so keep an eye out for my creations), making art, enjoying forgotten, largely unknown, or oftentimes just plain interesting literature, and I’m also toying with a rough draft of a worldbuilding idea in my head.

My plan for this blog is that I’ll mainly be a content creator, making and sharing interesting stuff of my own genesis, than reposting others’ work.  I’d rather be the one being reposted.  So expect to see stuff like my art, updates of my exploration of space, the final frontier, in Kerbal Space Program, and thoughts of mine, ranging from mere flights of fancy all the way to well-thought-out essays.

I hope what you find here interests you, and that you’ll stay a while!  I can’t wait to share my stuff with the world (and if I’m lucky, earn some fans)!
