No Trolls Allowed Here

Can you feel it — already a week has passed after NTA 2018! The event was massive yet again with over 450 people registered at the camp! So this post goes to all of them.

From all the organisers we want to say huge thanks to all the participants — grown-ups and kids, goats and other furry friends — you made the event great again! You still amaze us with your energy, chill vibe and your sincere involvement in every activity at the camp, from serious presentations to welding and so much more. It’s a pleasure for us to have you come over and over again and blow this event away! 

Another enormous thanks goes to all the sponsors and friends — without you the event wouldn’t have been as awesome as it was. Tesonet, Helis, NFQ, Estina, Visma, Hostinger, Technarium, Kaunas Makerspace, Bite, Algirdas Stonys, iTo, Telesoftas, and Rikis. You’ve brought so many cool things from a bunch of games to WiFi and hot shower. With your both crazy and very down-to-earth ideas, this event becomes the best fest of the summer where boundaries between reality and magic disappear! It can’t get any better!

And of course, one more giant thanks goes to all the volunteers who made it all happen smoothly! You’re our heroes!!!

Stuff to take

Well, this is an open air festival, so take everything you would bring to any music festival. Also a good idea is to bring your laptop and any cool gadgets you have - I’m sure you will make a use of those. Here’s a short list for your convenience:

Tent, sleeping bag and other stuff of comfortable camping

Your laptop and gadgets

Extension cord

Router or any networking equipment if you feel you will need that (e.g. for LAN party)

Food for yourself and new friends

Water and drinks

Trash bags

Comfortable clothes

Bug repellent

Geting to the camp

NTA happens at camp Pusiasalis. The exact coordinates are: 54.657602, 24.984814

And these are your options to get there.

Just drive

Get your gang together and have a nice quick road trip over here. Also if you have spare seat in your car, don’t forget to check if you can take someone with you in Facebook event.

Remember you have to drive towards Trakai, then turn to Varnikėliai and on Rubežus take a stony road to Padumblė.

From there you will see our awesome NTA road signs. Once you reach the parking lot, you should leave your car there and continue to the camp on foot.

Note: if you need to bring heavy stuff to the camp, reach the Infodesk first and they will give you an access key to drive into the camp.

Green options

Bike or hike are always the best options.

You can get to Trakai via train and ride from there. Or if you are up for a challenge you may take a longer trip from Vilnius.

Here is a rough schedule, what will happen at the camp:

Thursday Early birds are gathering on Thursday ;) You have entire day to chill at this wonderful lakeside. Godzilla and popcorns! Movie night in the evening. The first registrations are starting in the evening.

Friday Everyone comes and settles today! The official opening of NTA2018 will happen 17:00 First talks at stages start 17:30 We will have some performances and music concert starting 21:00

Saturday NTA goes hot. Talks and workshops starts 10:00 at all NTA stages.

Sunday Talks of those who couldn’t participate on Saturday. Workshops, panels and crafts continue. The major chillout!

Food

The entire point of the event is friendly camp, therefore everyone brings their own eats. And don’t forget that sharing is caring so we encourage to bring food to share with others and make new friends while grabbing a snack :)We will have a massive food court with public grills, so if you eager to have some sexy BBQ, bring your meats here. And grab all your grilling stuff as well if you have any.

Also there will be some public coffee/tea and some food on Friday evening and Saturday. The Avocado noodle bar will prepare us some delicious Wok and Tom Yum soup.

As we do not have office administrator sitting by the door, we built a Welcome bot - a bot which recognizes and welcomes us by scanning our faces while entering the office. He greets us in a chosen voice so basically you can be welcomed by Darth Vader now :)

Tell us what fascinated you the most at NTA

We are loyal attendees and have enjoyed too many things to list in a brief sentence. However, we do believe in knowledge sharing and see the camp as an inspiring environment where people inspire and learn from others. Not to mention how nice it is to continue discussions at bonfires, listening to live guitar melodies.

Guys, meet Estina crowd - one of the founding fathers of No Trolls Allowed. We love these peeps, because of their dedication and tremendous passion for this amazing camp. Here’s what they have to tell about themselves. 

So, what you are up to?

We call ourselves a research and product development company. We’re a rapidly growing team working on e-commerce and e-signing and e-identification solutions. For a while now, we’ve been living with two core projects: 8 years with Boozt — a leading and fast-growing Nordic technology platform selling fashion and beauty online — and 5 years with Dokobit, formerly ISIGN — the biggest electronic signature solutions provider in the Baltics. Never settling for less, we unite professionals who are eager to take responsibility, make great products and do other awesome things outside of work.

What is so crazy about your company?

Every company has its own craziness, so it really depends on how you look at it. For us, there are several crazy things. 1. We are committed to what we do 110%, both in work and in life. This makes us crazy because we don’t usually use our brakes to stop until we’re content with the result. When we’re onto something, we’re unstoppable. 2. We are a super social company (surprise suprise, we’re not 100% regular IT geeks locked in a basement :) ) resulting in many kicked off initiatives and communities: Symfony meetups and workshops, Vilnius PHP meetups and of course No Trolls Allowed. We don’t measure things in years, we measure the big picture. So our greatest hacking experience of all time is definitely No Trolls Allowed! Estina was the place where it all began. We somehow hacked our company’s supposedly small team-building into this huge hacker camp with 400+ people, all Lithuania’s geeks dream to attend. No Trolls Allowed to this day is like Christmas to us that we impatiently look for like a child looks for a Christmas morning to open the presents.

What is it about NTA camp that drives you to be our sponsor?

Everything! We’ve sold our souls to No Trolls Allowed and we’re not gonna hide it :) You know that feeling when you really really don’t want something to end cuz it usually means you have to get back to reality? Well, this is how we feel about No Trolls Allowed. Each year, seconds after we open our eyes in the morning after the last day of the event, the first thing that comes to our minds is “This was awesome, let’s do it again!”. And then we live in a deep deep pain for the rest of the year till next event comes! It’s such a pain in a neck to be addicted to something :(

Tell us what fascinated you the most at NTA

Each year we are amazed by the vibe of the event. Each year we go through this experience like it’s the very first time. Being a company that values people and team spirit, we are fascinated by the participants and content at the event. It’s an amazing feeling to meet so many people with different backgrounds and to see how all of them unite just for this four-day event, forgetting all the possible boundaries that may exist in real life, outside of this magical camp. And this makes it even more interesting to participate in such a variety of presentations and workshops, the existance of which might not even cross your mind! From tech soldering, LEGO robots, board games to singing next to the fire. At No Trolls Allowed, the sky is the limit. It’s incredible how small things can create a life-changing experience.

We work with great people and it shows! NFQ is a place where brilliant minds team up to make projects that set the standard for what’s possible, constantly raising the bar higher. Helis is a 100-strong company building proprietary products for gaming and esports industries in Kaunas. We question the status quo of technologies, methodologies and industries one day at a time, and so we deliver successful projects to the forefront of the competition.

What is so crazy about your company?

HELIS in general is one big crazy place. Best description is taken from the lyrics of Gnarls Barkley:

“I remember when/I remember, I remember when I lost my mind/There was something so pleasant about that place”. 

Yup, that literally happens when you start to work here.

We think that our vibe and company culture belong to little family values (even though we are not little anymore). Craziness starts from each team member and every person brings into our company culture something special that previously belonged to them – but from now belongs to all of us. Care, support and healthy work environment -  that’s the thing we try to achieve every day.

Oh dear, just where do we start…?

From a DIY smart toilet to a methodology that allows to safely deploy on Fridays. From a virtual server farm in one laptop to a full scope project built and launched in three days. From withstanding a horde of gamers to governing a kingdom of distributed systems.

Let alone the business development hacks we do one day at a time…

It’s quite common for our teams to react to sudden challenges by building impromptu hacks and workarounds nearly in real time - sometimes at nights or during weekends. Not that we’re forced to - we’re simply passionate about what and how we do.

What is it about NTA camp that drives you to be our sponsor?

Some of our colleagues discovered and took part in NTA back in 2013 and continued to participate every year. They loved the idea where one’s content contribution works as a ‘ticket’. Though not unique on the global scale, this approach is something we expect from the Lithuanian IT ecosystem: it embodies proactiveness, enthusiasm, knowledge sharing and a ‘can do attitude’.

We understand that though priceless, content contributions can’t fully cover the organizational part of NTA. However, as a company that salutes and celebrates proactiveness and knowledge sharing, we would be more than happy to support the organizational side of the event so people in the know can concentrate on what they love. At the same time, our colleagues will also ‘buy’ their tickets in the form of speeches and workshops - this is what NTA is all about!

So, what you are up to?

We at Tesonet spend our days working on a number of projects that are taking the tech world by storm. Nah, make it by thunderstorm. Tesonet is currently working on a cybersecurity and privacy product, which has a quickly growing user base worldwide – everywhere from Australia to Zimbabwe. It helps Internet users to easily secure their traffic with next-generation encryption technologies, so that they can browse without a worry in the world.

What is so crazy about your company?

At Tesonet we always think big. Putting this into numbers, the service runs on 10000 servers in 70 different countries, sending more than 250 GBps of traffic at peak time, totalling in 5 PBs of intercontinental traffic per month. All of this is made possible by using a decentralized infrastructure running on open source based platforms. On top of that, to this day we stayed a local capital Lithuanian company with no external investments.

We’re all about building a community of IT aficionados. We believe that all geeks should stick together for the greater good. NTA gathers tech community closer and each member has something to share.

Just a quick reminder: your ticket to the camp is your participation of any kind — you can either do a short presentation, workshop or just sign up as a volunteer to help the organizers. The main idea is for you to have a fantastic time and to express your hobby or passion. So skip boring work stuff (don’t show this to your boss!) and go think what you’d love to do during the camp. The sky’s the limit so don’t hold your imagination and let those unicorns in your head go wild!

If however you feel shy or you think you’ll have more fun with someone close to you (we suggest thinking this through though), don’t hesitate to bring +1. Well ok ok, you can bring your whole family, too (maybe they can do the job for you?) :) Truth is, the more, the better!

Susigulėjus emocijoms atėjo metas mums sužinoti jūsų nuomonę apie šių metų renginį.

Po #NTA2016 iš jūsų gavome labai naudingų komentarų į kuriuos atižvelgėme organizuodami šių metų renginį. Štai keli iš jų:

Minėjote, kad renginys per trumpas. Šiemet NTA truko net 5 dienas ir prasidėjo trečiadienį. Manau visiems pakako laiko :-)

Netvarka biotualetuose ir teritorijoje. Atvežėm daugiau WC, pastatėm praustuves, pasirūpinom, kad niekam netruktų šiukšlių maišų. Sėkmingai per savaitę pridavėm depozitą.

2016-aisiais metais dalyviai nepatogiai jautėsi dėl palaidų šunų. Šiemet visų paprašėme nesivežti savo augintinių. O tie žmonės, kurie juos visi atsivežė, šunis laikė šalia šeimininkų ir prižiūrėjo viso renginio metu.

Jurgis Pralgauskis pasirūpino, kad jaunesnieji dalyviai turėtų veiklos. Ačiū jam!

Sumažinom scenų kiekį nuo 4 iki 3. Tai leido pritraukti daugiau klaustojų, dalyviai galėjo lengviau pasirinkti kurį pranešimą klausyti, o pranešimai truko net iki sekmadienio popietės.

Bandėm pagerinti pranešimų kokybę filtruodami užsiregistravusius pranešėjus, bei prašydami jų detaliau aprašyti savo temas. Kaip mums sekės - papasakokit jūs.

Pasirūpinom geru oru.

Galiausiai, skyrėme dar daugiau laiko planuodami savanorių darbus, be kurių renginyje būtų buvę daugiau chaoso.

Why it is important?

Everyone who sends their presentations until 17th of July will receive these super awesome #NoTrollsAllowed2017 t-shirts. Even more - you will be able to request a specific time when you want to capture a stage. This saves you a lot of trouble finding a decent time when you are already on a spot.
