India keeps selling the dream of merit, but the recent mess around CUET-UG 2026 and the SSC GD Constable exam shows a system that keeps tripping over its own shoelaces. Police said systems were being remotely accessed, external operators were trying to solve questions from outside centres, and invigilators and technical staff were suspected. For rural and lower-middle-class aspirants, this is not a minor glitch. It is a slammed door.
