Seeing all these cool ideas for the Coltland Twins and Modern/Teacher AUs for Bloodymary and I adore them.
But me being a Markiplier Fan, I miss content that focuses on Simon and his potential family. So here are some thoughts about my No Astrophage!AU:
The Markiplier Egos are a big extended family - it is mostly never addressed how exactly they are related to each other, though
As much as I adore Dark, they don't exist because Damien & Celine are still alive! For many Uncle Damien is the most trusted family member while Aunt Celine is the most respected one (She can be scary af & no one wants to feel her infamous wrath)
Uncle Wilford is of course still a whirlwind of trauma & chaos! He shows up in the narrative whenever he wants to, potentially accidentally triggering Simon's trauma
Simon didn't even know he had an extended family
Watch him struggle to learn that family doesn't mean Eden's fucked up society but it actually means his chaotic Cousins (+ Grace, Rocky & Adrian)
Engie ends up being his most trusted person next to Grace
Simon meets a lot family members during the narrative - he gets along best with Yancy & Dave!
Grace will meet the family, too, & Simon isn't the only one who is charmed by Grace being a nerd

Aroace Ryland Grace is so important to me AND LEMME TELL YOU ESPECIALLY WHY.
a lot of the time, aroace people get forgotten about; in queer media, queer spaces, and media in general. As an aroace man myself i can confirm like there is lowkey nothing for us. Having a character a lot of people claim/agree is aroace is so freaking rare, and having a CONFIRMED CHARACTER?!? I dont think i know of ANY confirmed aroace characters. So having a mainstream, “average/normal” guy be labeled as aroace is so refreshing and lowkey beautiful. AND HES THE HERO OF THE STORY NOT JUST SOME SIDE CHARACTER LIKE HALLELUJAH!!!! cause people forget about us!! and forget that like cis people can be aroace! and straight people! and gay people!! and anyone!!
so yeah even thought its not canon, the fact so many people see it is incredible. heartwarming even. eueueu i love you aroace ryland grace
If Project Hail Mary taught us anything it's that forced romance subplots have ruined movies. Too many stories about guys sacrificing themselves to save girls and not enough movies about guys sacrificing themselves to save their cool rock alien friend.

Confessions on the brink of death a character accepts out of kindness because it won’t matter soon anyway, but then the other person doesn’t die, the other person expects them to carry through on their promise to love them and gets angry when they try to back out. Blackmail held over someone’s head just to force them to flirt and make romantic advances on another person, so it looks like they wanted this relationship. Talks about marriage and happily ever afters together as a threat. “I love you, I love you, I love you” as a violation that you’re expected to smile at and be grateful for, because you’re supposed to want to be loved. noncon romance.
adding to this: feeling love against your will. love forced on you by some power beyond you. love that you know you wouldn’t feel if you weren’t blessed (cursed) by it. love that you don’t want and is ruining you and that everyone keeps praising you for feeling. love that everyone around you gets mad at you for rejecting anyway. love that’s made so overpowering that it wipes out any semblance of “you” that there is to make way for a thing that will love someone back.

Aro and ace activism is disability and elder care services, so that no one needs a spouse to care for them, so that no one needs children to care for them, so that marriage is not a bind for disabled people, so that people on disability who want to and can live alone can
Aro and ace activism is community-building, it’s public events, it’s free social activities, it’s mutual aid, it’s activities that bring community members together without socializing relying on just a romantic partner
Aro and ace activism is developing a culture of believing when people tell you who they are and what they want rather than assuming you know them better than they know themselves
Aro and ace activism means a better world for people without “normative” desires or “normative” social support, which means a better world for everybody

i dont think they get along very well
ok it's time to get controversial and brave again. i genuinely believe that tropes like characters getting set up on dates by their friends without their knowledge, fake dating where one party is hesitant or outright opposed but eventually catches feelings, the same except it's "friends with benefits to lovers" etc. should be considered (and labelled as) a form of dubious consent. completely okay to explore in fiction, HIGHLY questionable and often morally fucked to try and do in real life. "character a thinks they don't like character b but after being forced to spend time with them they catch feelings" should be considered on the same level of dubious consent as "character a thinks they don't want to have sex with character b but after getting coerced into it, they end up enjoying it". something that should ONLY happen in the realm of fiction, and when possible, should be EXPLICITLY LABELLED AS DUBIOUS CONSENT.
i get why sexual consent is always on the forefront of people's minds, i get that on some levels it IS more serious than romantic consent (i.e. having something physically done to you as opposed to being forced into something socially), but it honestly pisses me off that romantic harassment and coercion is treated as a cute trope and not like. a serious topic that, if explored in fiction, needs to be tagged properly. i'm tired of reading fics with what, to me, very clearly reads as dubcon or even non-con romance, and then not having the author tag it as that at all, acting like it's a light and fun topic and not something that can leave a person in real life with life long trauma.
Queer people are just as romance-obsessed and amanormative as cishet people and it gets so tiring as an aromantic person.
