I finally had enough Illario art to use more of this audio. Lol
I found a photo I wanted to study but turned it into an Illario Dellamorte portrait. This was an opportunity to use a limited palette while also practicing interesting shadow rendering and drawing a muscular body.
Also, I wanted him to look like he was contemplating the choices he's made. Haha

Here's a little snippet from the latest chapter of my OC/Illario fic, The Gods Sent Me as Karma
The adrenaline of their entrance into what appeared to be an arena was wearing off, leaving Miri with a whirlwind of emotions whipping through her. Rage, fear, vengeance, terror. She felt larger than life and capable of unleashing destruction and small, weak and incapable all at the same time. Her breath hitched, chest feeling as though it was being crushed. Then, a heartbeat later, she exhaled and steadied, staring at Calivan who watched with a raised eyebrow and smirk on his face. Gods, she hated that manβs face. Wanted to see it torn, bleeding and lifeless. Her stomach surged as though facing a sudden drop, adrenaline coursing through her veins as hatred and vengeance won out over the terror at seeing him again. The arena stood in the centre of the Ossuary, surrounded by the towers and walls of the other levels of the temple, creating a shadow-like presence around the background of the space the group now stood in. Across the floor, light danced from the world above, reflections appearing like cracks on the ground as they moved with the slight ripple of water. Calivan stood in front of an elevated platform, a winding staircase coated in gold on each side. On top of the platform sat a gold-encrusted desk and large, red-velveted chair. Fit for a king, Miri scoffed to herself. Of course Calivan had his arena decorated like he was a king, ruling subjects with his iron fist. A large vault stood behind the chair, the walls formed into a circle with intricate designs and details, screaming luxury. Something perhaps, left behind from the days when this was a temple to the one of the gods instead of a place of horror. Or maybe, it always was a place of horror, Miri thought. A slow clap began to echo as Calivan took one step forward, a look of amusement on his face. His long, blonde hair had gone completely grey since Miri last saw him, his usually clean-shaven face covered in stubble, and the skin around his eyes wrinkled and taut with exhaustion. After a couple more slow claps, he smirked again. βMirena, itβs nice to see youβve finally come home,β he mused, speaking to her as though she were a child being reprimanded for disobedience. His gaze drifted over her shoulder to her companions. βAh, and it seems youβve found my other pet.β

I want to talk about policing the use of AI in creative writing fan spaces any why attempting to investigate and punish people this is a terrible idea.Β
Now let me be clear - Gen AI is awful and most people agree that it has no place in creative spaces, but that's besides the point. I'm not here to debate AI in creative spaces, I'm here to talk about the moderators who feel the need to investigate and punish writers who they believe use AI.
I'm going to start by reminding people of two important things:
There is no way for anyone to know for certain if someone is using AI to write - unless they tell you they are. The common "tells" that are cited online are found in the work of people who have excellent control of functional grammar, good vocabularies, and an excellent control of sentence structure. AI is trained on the work of talented writers.
There is no way for an author to defend themselves against a claim that they are using AI, especially in an online environment. Nor should an author have to. The rule should not be "prove you are innocent or we will find you guilty!"
I feel very passionately about this and have for quite some time. I've seen fandom witch hunts before, and I know how easy it is for some people to climb to moral high ground and punish those they believe are doing the wrong thing.
My friend recently chose to leave a discord server after the mod team contacted them to announce that there had been reports made by people who wished to be anonymous who suspected their work was AI generated. The mods explained that they had investigated these claims by looking over their writing, and although they admitted they could not be 100% certain the work contained AI, they were issuingΒ a strike/warning to them in accordance with their discord rules because they believed they might have.
The investigation involved them reading some of their work.Β
That was it.Β
They read their work and decided that, in their own words, they thought it mightΒ be AIΒ so they were issuing a strike. They then proceeded to delete the writing they had shared on the server without any opportunity for this person to retrieve it.
There was no communication prior to them issuing a strike. My friend was not told about these accusations ahead of time, the moderators did not talk to them about the accusations or raise concerns, and did not stop to ask themselves why the people making these claims wished to do so anonymously.Β Β
Perhaps if they had, they would have learned that members of their discord had been harassing this person via Tumblr anons about this issue. Instead they chose to give the bullies anonymity, to deny a writer a chance to have open communication, and issued a punishment for a rule infraction that they themselves admitted they could not be certain had been broken.
When my friend gave the names of beta readers and editors who had worked with her in real time, these moderators chose not to engage with them or seek clarification, and instead doubled down and tried to justify their decision.
My friend asked for the evidence they had that their work contained AI content, and it was not provided to them. Instead they supplied a genericΒ statement about how they had made their decision based on their use of syntax, grammar, tone, and word choice was rolled out. But again, they did not give examples or explain this.Β
As someone who admins and mods several creative spaces, this kind of behaviour worries me. Actually,Β it terrifies me. Because anyone can be next: you, me, the brand new writer eager to share their work,Β or the fandom oldie.Β
It sets a dangerous precedent for fan spaces and the policing of creative works, because it leaves writers in these spaces open to harassment, bullying, intimidation, and censorship under the guise of keeping fan spaces "AI Free". Anyone can accuseΒ someone of using AI to write, and this can be used to bully people out of fan spaces.Β
Moderators are supposed to keep fan spaces safe for members, not take it upon themselves to play detective and police creative works in case someone is using AI. In fact, mods taking it upon themselves to police writers in fan spaces by handing out warnings and bans are making fan spaces unsafe and encouraging social exclusion. This kind of behaviour will actively scare and intimidate writers into simply walking away - because who wants to hear an accusation that their work is AI?
Facilitating AI witch hunts is killing fan spaces.
Attempting to police the writing of others is alienating writers.Β
And if you think someone is using AI to write, don't try to be a detective, just click away and stop reading their work.
Seconding all of this from @vorchagirl .
The server I run 100% has a no AI rule. That AI rule, however, can only be enforced if someone says they are using it. We don't accept anonymous complaints as proof and don't proceed with issuing strikes because someone assumed. We have open discussions surrounding AI with those who have either a) admitted to using or b) showed interest in using AI. Our rules on it are reiterated. In a couple of instances it led to the parting of ways, in others it's led to a greater understanding.
Because of the field I am in, I have had to learn a lot about AI over the past couple of years. Taken courses on it. Learned what to look for, what not to look for. And I can tell you, as someone who knows AI writing well, there are not always tells.
As an example, recently a friend on another site posted about how if em dashes are used, you know it's AI, because AI favours em dashes. While the point about it favouring them is absolutely true, it fails to recognize that AI favours them because it's been trained off writersβwriters who, like myself, employ the use of em dashes frequently and in the correct manner.
And I want to be very clear. I am not in favour of generative AI being used for writing and artwork, creating music and video and imagery. I am fully against it.
But as VorchaGirl highlighted, we cross a very precarious line when we take that strong stance into policing and gatekeeping.
The friend she mentioned who recently went through this in a group is a friend of mine as well. An incredible writer whose work has grown naturally over a year of intense writing. Of not only writing every day, but actively dedicating herself to improving their skills, working with editors and beta writers to help identify areas that don't flow well or where they might be able to improve. I know this firsthand as I have had the pleasure of looking over their work and of providing feedback. They've always been an amazing storyteller, and seeing their writing grow has been a joy.
This witch-hunt for AI writing is getting out of hand. It's not just in the groups. We have seen it on Tumblr and A03 as well. Ironically many of these AI hunters are using AI to detect AI. Something that is not only unreliable but is absolutely abhorrent as they are providing AI tools additional training and content of other writers.
This kind of gatekeeping does more than harm writers in the community. It discourages them from writing. It will chase away people who are new to writing, whose work may mimic some of the less undetectable AI works because they are learning still.
I am livid about what my friend went through. And it highlights a problem on a greater scale. This gatekeeping and hierarchy of feeling like you are somehow better than someone else because their writing doesn't align with what you think is right? It's bullshit. I have my theories about what is driving it, but honestly those distract from the point.
No-one is so well trained in AI that they can determine based on grammar, syntax and punctuation easily that it's AI.
I am still absolutely REELING over this.
Gothic OC
Tagged by @silurisanguine -- this was so much fun. I feel like Kithya is a little on the gothic-side appearance-wise to begin with. Siluri beat me to most of the people I would have tagged, but if you want to do it, you can find it here.

Your OC as a D&D class
@theelderdemon tagged me in this so I thought it would be fun--thus here I am! Want to do your characters? Take the quiz!
Kithya de Riva - (in-game class, rogue)
The quiz pegged her as a fighter, which I guess really isn't that far off? She prefers the sneaky-sneak to the straight up fighting, and definitely likes to complete her battles more like a rogue, but I would say much of this represents her. As a D&D class, I think this is correct though. She'd dual-wield shortswords rather than going for the heavy hitting, just because she loves to do things with a bit of flair. And I think, despite her moral greyness at times, she'd likely suit being a Champion subclass quite well.
Miri Laidir (in-game class, also Rogue)
Warlock--actually not far off from how I imagine her, and the D&D PC she is actually based off. OG Miri is a rogue hexlock, so honestly, this tracks.
Helia Ingellvar (in-game, fighter--longsword and shield)
So, couldn't grab a screenshot for hers because she got two that were identical, and I can't find where to get the individualized descriptions, but she got 95% on both paladin and cleric, which honestly, both track. I'd see her more as a cleric than a paladin, but she could go either way.
Oh am I ever late to getting this out, but I'm excited to share my Satinalia exchange gift to @katcadiacorvid! Her Rook, Lilyana, was a delight to write, and this piece was my first attempt at something adorable and fluffy in a while! Thank you for trusting me with her, Kat! Read the short fic: Satinalia isn't Satinalia without a little bit of drama
Fic snippet:
Villa Dellamorte was even more of a vision than usual, the traditional yellow and purple-hued lights of Treviso that glowed throughout the gardens and over the manor replaced with soft golden-white lights and specs of red and green throughout. Every tree and bush twinkled with those white lights, like hundreds of fireflies lighting up the night, and the pathways leading up to the massive Dellamorte residence were lined with the soft white, red, and green lanterns, casting small beams of light for their respective colours upwards like silent beacons. The manor had garland wrapped delicately around its white pillars, those same soft, glowing lights woven through. Ropes of white lights outlined the windows and doors, with simple, but elegant wreaths decorated with shimmering red bows placed on the front doors. It was a marvel to behold, and Lilyanaβs breath hitched as she took it all in.
Xmas gift exchange for @npc-tabs of her Rook, Kithya De Riva and Lucanis decorating a tree. Yes I'm aware it's way past xmas now lmao this took me forever mostly because I work retail hell in holiday seasons ππ Some closeups under the cut
I am in awe over how perfect this is--well worth waiting for this stunning piece of art.
Might just become part of our annual holiday decor. π©·
Writing Commissions Available
Hi everyone, I've had a no good horrible December that has now led me to being on medical leave. It was suggested to me by a really good friend that since I'll be spending most of my time at home between appointments, commissions would be a good way for me to keep busy doing something I love while also contributing to the household finances or just being able to afford the meds the doctors are putting me on. Iβd be so grateful to create a story just for you and help bring your characters or a favourite moment or a prompt to life for you.
What you can expect β’ A custom fanfiction tailored to your prompt β’ Character-focused, emotional, and atmospheric writing β’ Clear communication before and during the process β’ One round of light revisions included β’ Turnaround time discussed up front so there are no surprises
What I write β’ Character studies β’ Romance (slow burn, soft, yearning, heated, etc.) β’ Angst, hurt/comfort, emotional tension β’ Canon-compliant or canon-divergent AUs
If youβre unsure whether your idea fits, feel free to ask. Iβm happy to talk it through.
What I donβt write β’ Anything involving minors in sexual contexts β’ Hate content or non-consensual material
If youβre interested, send me a message with: β’ The fandom β’ Characters β’ Rough word count β’ Vibe or emotional tone youβre hoping for
I will be asking you more clarifying questions about the characters and prompt that will hopefully make them just right!
No pressure or obligation. Iβm grateful just for the interest and the trust.
**All commissions will be paid via PayPal. Payment is requested upfront once weβve agreed on word count, scope, and details. Examples of shorter pieces I think show what I can do. The Griffon and His Crow (my Christmas present to me)
