1/60 - All that glitters is not gold by Noukka Signe Via Flickr: So. I got a new camera about a month ago. And I haven't used it that much. So I thought I'd challenge myself, and the only way I know how to is to pick up a self portrait project. So here we are. 60 days of summer throughout July and August (giving myself 2 slack days, ha!). It will be a project where I will experiment with self portraits that fit the person who I am today. Trying not to fall into the trap of repeating things I've done years ago. I'll try to challenge myself with editing and how I'm setting up a photo. Today, I took some gold foiled balloon letters and used them to frame myself. Here we are. Sorry you have to see my face again. I loved doing this so much though, even if it took me a bit to get comfortable again.

But I got the idea to do this sequel when Avicii's "Sunset Jesus" came on (I've been listening to his music a lot lately.): My dreams are made of gold My heart's been broken and I'm down along the road, But I know My dream keeps fading 'til I get old Breathe for a minute breathe for a minute I'll be okay

Either way. Here's my imaginary skyline of Stockholm, Berlin, Toronto, New York City and Boston. I wanted to fit more in but it got too crowded ;)

From a distant past

I was looking back through my old photos and Project 365's. And I realized I kinda missed that girl. The one who was creative with what she had, whether that be a desk lamp, christmas lights or a window. That girl who just wanted to tell her story and show her emotions and use photography as a way to deal with life. And mostly.. the one who was less occupied with things looking good or pretty, as long as they were expressive and honest.

So here's a photo, working with what I've got (a torch light, holding it slightly behind me) and thinking of that girl I used to be.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with where I am. But looking back, I realize I can still learn from the kind of person I was back then.
