John Green is the biggest example of “tumblr turning on people it used to love to reach for and literally invent call outs for no reason other than its apparently cool to shit on things that are popular.”

Friendly reminder that John Green DOES actually suffer from a mental illness himself and fell into a depressive episode after struggling to follow up the success of TFiOS.

I’ve been saying this for YEARS. No one who was criticizing him for those things seemed to actually read the books they were criticizing. Also, yes some of those books have some problematic things but since writing them, he’s usually apologized (example is his use of the R-word in Paper Towns. He felt the need to write dialogue for teenage boys as they actually talk, but since then, he says that was pretty stupid and has said he regretted that mentality). He’s also the most philanthropic guy I can think of. He holds a huge charity event every year where they raise thousands of dollars and give to several organizations chosen by the public.
