Watched the Backrooms movie and I really liked it. Great lead performances, immaculate set design, really good cinematography and score.
One of the most interesting parts of the film for me was the themes of memory and dwelling on the past.
Spoilers for the film btw.
Both of the main characters hold onto an aspect of their past, with Mary it's her memory of her mother and with Clark it's his break-up with his girlfriend/wife. While Mary is able to let go and move on from her past, Clark isn't which leads to him wanting to stay in the Backrooms.
The Backrooms themselves are said by Clark to be created from memories of things and people that erode and distort over time. The entity being a warped version of Clark, while a bit on the nose, is a good representation of his unwillingness to let go of the past and how he lets it consume him (quite literally by the end).
There's probably more to this but I'ld have to rewatch it to look more into it.
