1990 miniseries Bev and Eddie’s bestfriendism is everything to me like

I have so many complicated thoughts on the muschietti IT universe in regards to it's politics and how it handles it's subject matter, and ultimately my perception of the whole franchise is that it aims to be some kind of statement about small town america and the people who are outcasted and hurt by such places are the silent heroes but never actually does anything all that woke with it's depiction of women, mentally ill people, black people, indigenous people, queer people, or jewish people. the IT movies/show, despite how much i want to deny it, shares a lot of similarities with Stranger things- most notably in their big cardinal flaw. The simple fact is that Stranger things and the muschiettiverse try to appeal to the outsider in their bigoted small town setting, to make people like Beverly marsh or el hopper, who'd usually be treated like shit and forgotten, central focuses of the narrative as they navigate an everchanging USA that has no regard for people like them- but ultimately fails to do it in practice- probably because these shows are made by mediocre white guys who don't actually know how it feels to truly be an outsider- or at least, haven't in a long time. It is impossible for Andy or the duffers to ever truly acknowledge all of their biases, and thus it is impossible to ever have a radical way of tackling these topics- because even if they say one thing, their writing will always show another. Andy can say the native characters are really the heroes of welcome to derry, but i know all he let them actually do in the show was sit around and give exposition to white people and then die. He can say he loves Mike hanlon and wanted to rectify the mistakes he made with the It movie in wtd, but we know for a fact that the most important victim of the black spot was not Mike hanlons father, or any of the actually black characters, but rather richie toziers mom and her boyfriend. He can say the WTD girls are all strong female characters, but that will never change the fact that all of these girls plot lines revolve around the men in their life, while they seldom care for each other. Ronnie and Lilly are hardly friends. Marge apologized to Lilly but never thought to check on her after the big fight they had. Ronnie and Marge have barely ever spoken.
