Sherry Birkin was the light from the darkness that engulfed Raccoon City. She is a miracle.

The small amount of G-Virus that remained in her body is still active, but produces no harmful effects. Only its regenerative properties have been activated, making her almost immortal in a way. This also is what makes her look so young, since it has halted her aging processes. Plus, she now has a strong resistance to all other viruses.

Unfortunately, I don't think this comes as a blessing to Sherry. She will always be different from everyone else which will probably cause her some pain. But I think she will pull through. She's strong, kind, and has such a positive outlook on life, no matter what the situation.

I wish you nothing but happiness, Sherry.

I’ve always feared this thing—this virus in my blood. Maybe fear of the endless shadows I’ve seen around the four white walls that surrounded me almost half of my life and the countless pricks and pierces that went in and out of my skin, a fear of being watched and observed, being poked and prodded on non-stop, a fear of not being normal.

It seems silly, being afraid of something that has become a part of you and someone you never was... and yet, perhaps the thing that really scared me the most was, the thought I’d never discover its limits or even its existence. It’s like swimming in a vast deep-sea finding something that you don't have any idea what that something is, that you don’t know how deep you can dive, or if you’ll be able to swim your way onto the surface once you sink down far enough. And in my case, it wasn't me who played across the waves. It was them. 

Back then, I was always asked when did I first knew that something was in me, and I think my answer (or no answer at all) was always disappointing. Of course I didn’t know I had such capacity, which is probably what they wanted to hear. It sounds more romantic… Something that would look beautifully on their research papers. What's the difference anyway? Answering them or not, still grants them to make me their ultimate guinea pig...

I can still remember the first time they tried to trace my skin with a scalpel, how much it hurt and how much I protested and cried. Its pointy end slicing through and through and I would just shut my eyes and scream in pain... and then when I try to open them, I'd see Claire's face by the glass window. She's not saying any word but I feel that I hear her. Her voice in my head alone gives me something to hold on, to make it through and then the pain goes away... Much to their (and my own) surprise, my wounds were like never there for it has closed itself almost instantly.

The immunity first manifested when they exposed me into various types of virus strains – Echovirus, Influenza, Aichi, Banna, Mumps, Measles, Hepatitis, to name a few. Its regenerative abilities obviously exhibited whenever they try to dissect and 'study' parts of me and the virus itself. Over the years of being under the knife and under their watchful and sickening eyes, the virus has shown a lot of its other capabilities. It was beyond of what they have expected. By the time I reached my early 20's, they noticed that my features weren’t demonstrating any significant signs of aging, of any lines that would mark one’s life’s journey which is not surprising at all because my life then was only rotating in that one big and crappy room. But of course, it was the doing of the traces of the virus which adapted within me, continually exhibiting its restoration capabilities.

As I lay there, day after day, year after year, I literally felt like that the virus was growing into my veins like vines spreading tendrils across a tree trunk, twisting, turning and reaching into unpredictable shapes, separately and foreign to the very tree it holds. I still don’t understand it, but unfortunately, no matter how hard I try, the virus doesn’t require my understanding to function for it has a life of its own.
