reblogs were off
so you're telling me the fifa world cup is all men? its all men's teams? and so is the superbowl? and all the sports teams that states are known for and make copious amounts of merch for are also men's teams? and only 5 women have ever entered formula one since its inception in 1950 and only two of them were able to compete? and this is normal? its acceptable?
i grew up playing backyard soccer on the pc as a child in the early 2000s where boys and girls would play on the same team and against each other and you're telling me that's still an unrealistic fantasy that can't happen in real life?
Imagine saying this to the Robin Hobb who published her first book while financially struggling as a waitress and post lady with 4 children to take care of alone because her husband was an offshore fisherman in Alaska

This looks like a fucking parody post, or an edgy edit, but itās 100% official real Flintstones.
Clarification: I donāt hate this book, I love it, itās amazing. Itās just that taking a step back and looking it out of context is still really funny. Especially the lineĀ āWe participated in a genocide, Barney.ā
ok but imagine them in their cartoon forms saying this dialogue iām
can we have some context to this, perhaps?
Bedrock is having a mayoral election. One of the candidates is a violent war mongering asshole that riles people up against the lizard people. This reminds Fred and Barney of their time in the army.
Back then the father of said violent candidate was riling people up against theĀ ātree peopleā. Fred, Barney, and other soldiers fought what they believed to be a defensive measure against the tree people. Turns out, it was actually an invasion, in order to kill off the tree people and take over their forest to build Bedrock.
Thatās what Fred means when he says he and Barney participated in a genocide. They literally did.
(Extra fun fact, Barney adopted a tree person baby after the war, and his son Bamm-Bamm is the last tree person.)
just fucking read it

There are a lot of interesting things about this post but the AK-47 shaped spear is what really got me
This is just as wild with the context
Some of my favorite moments in the series
From the foreword to 2021 print of the comic.
Iām glad people want to read it but donāt it on the pirate site linked above, though. Itās full of malware and annoying ads.
The omnibus of the full series is only about $30 online.
If you donāt have $30 going spare, check your local library. If they donāt have it, they can help you with interlibrary loan. Or they might just buy it - libraries want to carry books people will read!
Alan Moore in the Observer Q&A today
The man behind Watchmen and V for Vendetta on why he has now disowned them and the shadowy London of his latest novel
[ID: a screenshot of a comic speech bubble. The black text in it reads "No matter how open-minded, socially conscious, anti-racist I think I am, I still have old learned hidden biases that I need to examine. It is my responsibility to check myself daily for my stereotypes, prejudices and, ultimately, discrimination." /ID end]
antiracism is a constant process. i was raised in a racist village and it's not easy to get rid of it. i moved away over 10 years ago but those ideas are still haunting me.
also keep in mind that shame + guilt are not conducive to growing as a person. when it comes to "checking yourself" it should be a non-judgemental process. it's not about flagellating yourself for every bad thought or trying to purify your mind of all corruption. it's only when acknowledging your own racist thoughts doesn't fill you with dread that you can really progress past the white guilt of it all.
radical self-acceptance & genuine self-critique are not opposites. they need each other. do not let obsessive-compulsive behaviors colonize your desire to grow as a person.

Mask (copper alloy; 26.7 cm [10.5 in] high x 18.4 cm [7.2 in] wide x 14.0 cm [5.5 in] deep) of a bearded man with cap, made by the Yoruba artist Ali Amonikoyi ca. 1910. Born in Nigeria, Amonikoyi later emigrated and was active in present-day Ghana and Togo. He was a master metalworker who developed a technique for imitating Yoruba gelede masks, normally made of wood, in metal. The resulting masks were not used in dance performances, as was typical for their wooden cousins, but rather placed on graves as memorials.
This mask, believed to have been made at Kete Krachi in the Volta region of Ghana, is now in the Arts of Africa Collection of the Brooklyn Museum, New York City, NY, USA. Photo credit: Brooklyn Museum | Wikimedia Commons | Creative CommonsĀ Attribution 3.0 Unported
