What Northeastern Students Take for Granted
The dining hall is open ALL DAY
I didn’t know this until I got to Northeastern but at many universities, dining halls are only open for set meal times. That’s tough for students who have crazy schedules. At Northeastern, the dining halls are open all day, some as early as 7am and as late as 11pm. So students can grab a bite to eat whenever they need to.
Marino is open 20-hours a day, too
Marino is our main fitness center on campus, and it’s closed only from 1am-4am every day. So whenever you feel a workout coming on, Marino’s open for you.
And speaking of fitness, there’s more than one place to get your sweat on
Northeastern has four fitness centers spread out around campus, so you’re never far from a workout. And once our new student housing building opens this Fall, there will be a fifth!
Your classes are never too far from home
Compared to other schools, Northeastern’s campus is small. It takes max 15 minutes to span campus, so you won’t ever be walking in the cold for too long.
All classes are taught by professors
This may not seem like a big deal, but it is. Professors have real experience in their field and often do research on campus, so you’ll always be learning from true experts.
And there’s not much of a competitive atmosphere in classes
I’ve heard this happens at other schools: some majors are super competitive and nobody is friends with each other in classes. Not at Northeastern. You’ll be making true friends in all of your classes, and everybody is willing to help you out. I’ve been in 20-person study groups and it’s awesome.
NUPD is always there
If you come to campus for a tour, I guarantee you’ll see our police force out patrolling. They’re always around campus keeping us safe. They even have an app called SafeZone which has a button you can press if you ever need emergency help.
You’re surrounded by other colleges
Boston welcomes about 250,000 college students every Fall. This city is literally built for college kids, and you’ll meet tons of people your age just by walking around the city.
And some pretty sweet food options
Like I said, you’re in a city! There are tons of restaurants to explore, and for anything you’re craving at any time of the day, I guarantee there’s something close by.
Plus there’s always free food somewhere on campus
I try to pass through Curry Crossroads every day to check for free food. Typically you can find candy from student organizations, popcorn from the Curry employees, and coffee from NUPD. It’s awesome.
Your residence hall is secured 24-hours
Every residence hall has Resident Assistants and/or Security Guards at the entrance to make sure you’re always safe. And in most residence halls, residents have to swipe in at a proctor station and guests have to be signed in by the residents.
And lastly, housing is guaranteed for your four years in college
You are guaranteed university housing for your four years at Northeastern as long as you were a freshman admit, which is not typical of many colleges. And if you choose to stay a fifth year, you can request university housing which is provided on a rolling basis.
