Healing Like A Hiromu Arakawa Character: a Self Care Guide
Start taking care of a living thing. You can put a plant by your window, volunteer at the community garden or local animal shelter. This will help you realize that other lives depend on you just like you depend on them!
Learn. If something makes you excited, find out more about it. Teach yourself new skills! Cultivate a love for learning and make your local library a second home. Wikipedia and documentaries are great but nothing feels quite as homey as sitting in a back table behind a stack of books with tea just staring in awe of how much there really is to know!!
DO SOME HARD LABOR! Get out there and use your hands (literally or just metaphorically) to heal. Clean up your environment, learn a craft, or volunteer if you want to get out on the field.
But remember SELF SACRIFICE IS MEANINGLESS. Working yourself to the point of exhaustion wonât help anyone.Â
Hang out with cute animals! Cats, pigs, horses, the odd funky lizard. Spending time with animals can calm you down and keep you centered!
âRun if you must to survive.â Getting out of a toxic situation or leaving behind things that make you depressed is okay! Running with no purpose can be self-destructive but sometimes a fresh start is necessary so always evaluate if the people around you and the experiences you are having are helping you grow!
Connect with others! No matter what you think you are not alone. Look at your life and see the people who are there for you. You have a network, just look.Â
Forget Equivalent Exchange!! Remember the 10:11 rule! For every ten you are given, you give eleven back. Make every place you go better and help people who need it. Just try not to say yes to everything and get overloaded!!
EAT! Look up recipes and cook something fresh for yourself, even if itâs only once in a while. We wrap eating in so much guilt and weirdness but you gotta eat. Over-the-top reactions to super good food is optional but pretty gratifying, in all honesty.Â
Being the second worst/worst in my Norwegian class is a humbling experience, but boy does it suck đ I have a complex about being bad at things and learning languages definitely helps me get used to the feeing of being wrong lol.

Today I started a second semester of my Masterâs studies. Only two classes so far, but Iâm exhausted⌠Lectures drain my energy more than doing projects and other stuff. I donât know why, maybe itâs something with my lack of focus. Iâm not very interested in contemporary art but I need to get the best grade from this class if I want to have a chance to get a scholarship.Â
[Money by Pink Floyd plays in background]
Have you ever felt terrified starting to learn something new? I often struggle with it. Iâll have to learn the basics of Blender & 3D graphics soon, which is my worst enemy. I even was on a game graphic course 4 years ago, but Blender always seemed like a program which is extremely hostile to you unless youâre a pro.Â
I have a beautiful early spring outside a window, and when the laundry ends, Iâll go for a walk. đ I hope to do more Norwegian exercises on the weekend, I donât want to slow down!Â
PS Stardew Valley is the best game Iâve played this year. I recommend it with my whole heart, but itâs so addictive - so be careful.
PS2 Yes, itâs moomin chewing gum.
starting the morning with some french reading. currently reading a series of unfortunate events by lemony snicket. i absolutely loved these books when i was younger, and when i found that the french edition ebooks were so cheap i couldnât help myself!
some things iâve learned while studying in quarantine
drink more water instead of more coffee.
weekly goals are bullshit. set yourself 3-day goals. youâll be less laid-back.
donât just mindlessly stare at words. before you start studying, know your approach to it. have a plan.
summarizing the concept in your own words is the key part of taking notes. donât just copy things down, convert them into your own way of talking, your own vocabulary, no matter how dumb and unprofessional it sounds.
donât let the âstudyblr aestheticâ fool you. studying doesnât have to be pretty. summaries and notes can be messy as long as theyâre comprehensible. you can always rewrite and reorganize them later. (honestly, you better do. and you better keep them.)
donât throw away the papers youâve solved your problems in. staple them to the fucking textbook. you need to see them constantly. cause youâll need reminders of how far youâve came, when youâre feeling discouraged.
donât be an armchair analyst for your issues. if you have an idea then act on it.
remember: the exact point where it becomes difficult, is where your growth begins. take a deep breath, and try to focus on the paragraph in front of you.
get off your high horse and understand that if youâre a zero, you wonât go to 100 in a couple of days. first, youâll need to reach 30, then from 30 to 60, and then from 60 to 90. nobody is 100 everyday. that happens very rarely.
you need to have fun everyday. you need to have peaceful time every single day. even on exam night. especially on exam night, actually. so make sure youâve studied enough so you can have some time to yourself.
once youâre on a roll and in need of some challenge to stay on track, start writing down your studying hours. tell yourself youâre not allowed to do less than 80% of what you did yesterday. whatever the hell it was, even just one hour. so if yesterday you really studied for like, say 8 hours, today your goal is to study for at least 6 and a half hours. if you canât keep up with that, make it 70%, or 60%.Â
be forgiving of yourself. be kind to yourself. even if you bounced back and lost your streak. start again. as slowly as you did before. take your time. itâs okay, you were there once you can get there again.

How to know which language level youâre at and tips for improving your skills - divided by proficiency level!
These are all my personal thoughts and experiences from reaching a proficient level in one language, and an intermediate in another!! Feel free to correct me or add whatever you wish<3
 1. A0 - Knowledge Level: Nothing
At this stage, you have absolutely no knowledge or very little knowledge about a language. My advice is to start out slow: the alphabet, pronunciation rules, basic pronouns, colors, etc. At this point, thereâs not much you can improve on (Reading/Writing, Listening and Speaking) since youâve got no actual knowledge to expand upon. Try apps like Duolingo, have fun with translating words such as your favorite animal, plant, or swear word. Donât put too much pressure on yourself at this point, itâs all in good fun! Try starting a notebook in which you write down new words, (i.e. all of them) or watching a couple videos on Youtube, even if you donât understand much.
2. A1 - Knowledge Level: Just a Bit
This is when you slowly exit the stage of âis this even a languageâ and enter the âbeginnerâ world. You know a couple basic verbs (to be, to have, eat, sleep, walk, talk, etc) and some sets of basic nouns/pronouns. (weekdays, months, numbers, colors, objects you find around the house, and all that fun jazz.) You can string together a couple sentences youâve heard twenty times on Duolingo! Regardless of the fact that âThe boys drink milkâ is not really something youâll need in irl conversation, itâs good that youâre getting familiar. By this time, you should start looking into proper grammar rules such as verb terminations, tenses, noun declinations, pronouns, etc. Childrenâs books are a good way to learn a lot of stuff youâd need. The language is simple and it goes straight to the point, which is the only type of writing you understand, mostly. Right now, speaking is not really an option aside from learning to pronounce words right. Listening, on the other hand, can be done really easily! If you find that Youtube channels in your target language are boring or too hard to understand, music is the way to go. Youâre especially lucky if youâre a Disney fan, because most of their songs are easy to remember and are dubbed in a lot of languages, so have fun with finding what fits you best!
3. A2 - Knowledge Level: Basic/Preliminary
Now weâre beginning to see some major improvements. You pick up words easier, you can read almost perfectly even if you donât understand everything, and you can form really basic sentences by yourself. For speaking, by now you should be able to say your name, the place you live in, and maybe talk about your hobbies or your favorite stuff! It depends on if youâve worked with a teacher until now or not, so donât worry if youâre still struggling. As a stepping stone between beginner and intermediate, this level can either be the one when you slowly improve or make a really big jump in your skills. Listening to songs and youtube videos should be easier, but nobody is expecting you to actually comprehend everything. As for vocabulary and reading, learning new words should come more intuitively by now, but again, youâre still in the early days. Writing is still something that can be difficult, so try maybe linking a couple sentences together to make a short story and translating some simple texts. But it you donât find it difficult, writing a hundred words once a couple days may be the way to go.
4. B1 - Knowledge Level - Intermediate
Finally, weâve reached the intermediate stage! By now you should be able to hold very basic conversation and reveal information about yourself. You should be able to pick up words you know from the people around you, and understand mostly everything if spoken slowly and clearly to. Reading light books or magazines should be challenging but okay, while you should be able to remember certain words without making too big of an effort. By this stage, active learning is still essential, as you probably have a lot more ahead in your language learning journey. I encourage you to write short stories or several sentences about your day in a diary, depending on what works for you. Watching Youtube videos should be something you do often, because it improves listening skills greatly and gets you accustomed to informal speech patterns and filler words.
5. B2 - Knowledge Level - Advanced Intermediate
Yay! You have officially reached the advanced intermediate stage! You should be able to hold everyday conversation without too big of a headache, listening probably isnât a breeze for you but still, if you watch a basic youtube video you can pretty much get all of it. YA books should be a regular part of your reading, since theyâre not too hard to comprehend but still a good reading exercise. Vocabulary probably isnât a bother anymore, since you know most of the words you need and the ones you donât, you hear them once or five times and they stick to you. At this level you can probably write some basic fanfiction, or anything that doesnât require advanced language skills but is still challenging. Congrats! Youâre almost at an advanced level!
6. C1 - Advanced
If youâre still here, means youâve got a strong sense of dedication. C1 is the advanced level, where you have pretty much everything that you need to comfortably live your life in a country which speaks your target language. If youâre already here and most of the above things seem far, far away to you, then maybe itâs time to get down on some serious reading. Look up local classics, or contemporary works that stimulate your mind. Writing essays, reviews, reports, etc, should be something you are able to do, as you have a good grasp on both formal and informal language, both literary concepts and idioms/phrasal verbs/slang. Listening should come easily, with the ability to understand everything that is spoken to you without worries, as long as they donât have an alien accent. Speaking, too, should be a breeze by now, with everyday conversation being a piece of cake and more formal conversations not posing too big of a challenge. If you want to reach the nextâ and lastâ level, it can be done through thorough preparation of skills that are usually required by exams or for language-related jobs. If you donât care about either of these, congrats! You learned a language!Â
7. C2 - Proficient
Long past fluency, you now wish to master a language, down to its very core and history. Pick up some of the big classics to read. Watch a bunch of those complicated videos explaining complicated concepts. Write poetry and prose, and speak to people in contexts which require more than the average range of vocabulary. If youâre still not satisfied, get a damn teacher. Tumblr canât help you now.

USING POST-IT NOTES IN A BULLET JOURNAL
Hey, itâs me again, and this time Iâm here with some suggestions for how to use Post-Its in your bullet journal. This isnât sponsored content, by the way: I just really like using Post-It notes in my Bullet Journal and I want to show you how I use them!
1) Tracking food spending
I had a lot of trouble at the start of the year keeping a track of my budget, as logging every single daily expense took up too much space and I needed to find a convenient way of keeping my spending for meals all in one place, as I didnât want to have to mess around with receipts the whole time. Instead, I came up with this system, where I write in the cost of every meal, as well as any snacks I bought during the day, with additional space on the side for the cost of my weekly shop (so I could have a way of tracking expenses on meals I cooked myself). Meals out are logged separately, because theyâre not such a common and everyday occurrence. This also allows me to figure out daily/weekly averages for food spending, which is super useful for figuring out my budget for the next month.
The reason I put this onto a post-it note is that I can put it into my weekly spreads without sacrificing any space for my to-do lists every day, and I can move it around and take it out when I want to log my total spending every week across the whole month.
2) Monthly to-do list
This is from my December spread, where the weeks are on one page rather than across two, as itâs a holiday. On the left, you can see my academic holiday to-do list, but every month I also have a post-it note with a non-academic to-do list, whether for things to buy, or people to make appointments with without a specificdate attached. This helps me to keep track of the things I need to do over the month that donât need to be done on/for a certain day, which I personally find completely invaluable.
The reason I put this on a Post-It instead of its own spread in the bullet journal is because I can keep it on my weekly spreads without having to transfer anything every week, and I donât have to keep flipping to a certain page in the bullet journal to find the things I need to do this month.
3) Shopping lists, plans and ideas for spread layouts, etc.
This is clearly a super-obvious use for post-its in your bullet journal, but is worth a mention nonetheless. As you can see in the picture, I use post-its for planning how Iâm going to lay out my budget (and how to lump spending together in the case of meals as above), as well as a list of super-exciting things that I need to buy at some point (including The Hobbit as Gaeilge donât judge me).
Itâs quite good to have post-its in this sense because you donât need to put your messy scribbles straight into the journal, meaning you can move them around and get rid of them whenever you want without the risk of losing them in the meantime.
If you have any other suggestions for how to use post-its in your bullet journal, please add them at the bottom of this post and share them!
