Kunikuzushi’s fingers dig into your skin. His next words are quiet, and full of fury. But they aren’t directed at you; rather, they’re meant for the Traveller, and they promise that the Traveller won’t be leaving this encounter unscathed.

“Psst. Lady Guizhong?” Your little face peeks around the shadowy corner of a stone pillar, into her peripheral vision. Intent on staying out of sight, you’re hiding from your Lord and the newest Adeptus to grace your numbers, rescued mere months ago. “Lady Guizhong? Come quick, please?”
Guizhong is quick to set her book down upon the table, and is even quicker to follow you deeper into the winding walkway of the garden. In the distance, the faint sound of the ocean soothes your ears and your jangled nerves. “What is it, little one?”
“Can I tell you a secret?” You ask, stopping only when you’ve rounded the corner of a thick row of hedges.
After a minute, Guizhong recovers her voice. “Of course.” She says, bending down to your level.
“I don’t like Xiao.” You say, unable to look at her, instead staring at the ground underfoot, damp and littered with leaves, as the natural debris of autumn is churned into a faintly red mud. “Can he go away?”
Disapproval mars her otherwise beautiful face as she gently lifts up your chin, forcing your eyes up. “Little one, that’s not a nice thing to say. What did Xiao do to you that was so bad?”
“He’s – He’s always staring at me.” Always, always, that itchy uncomfortable feeling that you can’t quite shake whenever you’re with him. He’s about your age, but already, the intensity of his gaze is searing. Another thing that he and your Lord have in common. You bubble up and over at the indignity of it all. “And, and, he doesn’t wanna talk to me at all! His face gets all red, and then he won’t look at me – Xiao’s so weird!”
“Oh.” Guizhong reaches up, covers her red-tinted mouth with a billowing sleeve. Still, you can hear the laughter in her voice, as much as she tries to hide it. “Oh, dear.”
“Wha – Lady Guizhong? Why are you laughing at me? What did I say?”
“Why don’t you give Xiao another chance? He’s a very sweet boy. Isn’t that right, Xiao?”
Guilt is written all over Xiao’s face as he shuffles out from behind the hedge at the sound of his name, fleshy cheeks flushed with the force of his guilt at being caught eavesdropping. Guizhong beckons him over with a smile, and the two of them speak in hushed voices, Xiao’s fraying with worry, Guizhong’s steady and calm.
“Go on.” You hear Guizhong say.
You perk up an ear, but don’t twitch an eyelid.
“But I’m scared.”
“It’s all right.”
Guizhong won’t take no for an answer as she pushes Xiao in your direction; he practically stumbles forwards, almost tripping over his own two feet. there’s a calm gust of wind behind you, cooling your skin against the humid air. a back presses against your own, but you can’t focus enough to turn around.
no words are exchanged, but breathy grunts and huffs escape both of your mouths. the circle disappears easily with the help of the stranger. the clanging of swords on the sand increases as the army is forced to retreat.
it’s still coming down hard, drops of rain hitting your face and piercing the skin. as the general and her excellency’s forces begin to regroup, you turn around and wipe the sweat and dirt off of your face to greet the stranger.
“thanks for supporting me. i would have been in some serious trouble if you didn’t—” your words stop immediately, jaw going slack and sword abandoned on the ground below.
“kazuha?” you breathe out, wondering you’re seeing a mirage.
his hair has grown longer, even when soaked in the rain. there are bandages on his hands, but they aren’t enough to cover the faint discoloration of a scar. his scarf is gone now, caked in the sand.
his eyes wide in surprise and his blade, too, is abandoned on the beach. you approach one another slowly, rain still dropping down on your skin. you’re the first to touch his forearms to confirm he’s real.
“y/n,” he says with a soft tone, as if he hasn’t gone anywhere. “what are you doing here? it’s dangerous to be on the front lines.”
you want your face to twist into disgust, but it doesn’t. instead, you look at him with ethereal wonder. taking your hand, you hold his cheek. “where have you been all this time? why did you leave? i was so worried, everyone had told me you were dead, and—”
“y/n,” kazuha says again, and you stop saying anything. instead, his fiery eyes twinkled with adoration. “i missed you.”
suddenly, the rest of the world is discarded as his lips meet your own. your eyes widen with shock, but you melt into his arms so easily. his hand brushes away wet strands of hair, and your own tangles his white locks. his lips are so warm and soft, and you welcome his embrace with open arms.
as you pull away, his forehead braces against yours. tears well in your eyes, still trying to process the fact that kazuha is here, in front of you, and alive. “i meant to do that long before i left,” he confesses. “i am aware that this may not be the best time to say this, but will you…will you have me?”
you kiss him again in confirmation, and the rest of the world can wait for now.

once you do that, he feels totally comfortable!
albedo likes to be close to you, enjoying your body heat as much as he can.
sleeping with him is comfortable. he doesn't exude any heat, but he isn't cold, either - so no matter the weather, he's a good nap buddy
his favorite place to sleep is up on his lab in dragonspine, next to you, in a bed covered in furs and blankets so both of you can be completely tucked in. it's like a cocoon of comfort!

nighttime is when zhongli allows himself to let go
he trusts you with everything, and therefore, as the two of you are getting ready for bed, while he's washing up, he lets his more draconic features show.

even his teeth shift, becoming just barely noticeably sharper and larger.
it's in these moments when you remember your lover is an ancient being and quite literally a god
zhongli's demeanor doesn't change, though. he's still a gentleman.
he situates himself in bed first, makes himself comfortable, picks up a book, and invites you to lay with him.
he'll stay up for a bit reading by candlelight with you next to him, until he finally gets tired, snuffs out the candle, places a soft kiss to your temple, and lays down next to you
he's another one that likes to hold you while you sleep.

the evening is his favorite time of day

as the yashiro commissioner, he's busy most of the day, and doesn't often have time to spend with you. while he's around, he can't devote much of his attention to you, which he sincerely regrets.
so nights with him are when he shows you just how much he loves you.
he makes sure you're comfortable and helps you get ready for bed, a routine which includes many many kisses and a few apologies for being busy all the time (you understand, and he knows this, but he likes to make sure you know he still loves you)
ayato likes to hold hands while you sleep. there's something so intimate about it that he's such a sucker for.
he doesn't sleep really lightly or heavily, just sort of in the middle. he wakes up to shift his position a few times a night but that's it.
he's also a sucker for being close to you. you'll wake up learning that at some point in the night, ayato has pulled you much closer to him than you were when you originally went to bed.
he has to wake up early, but he hates it. he leaves a quick kiss on your head before he gets up for work, and will check in with you throughout the day, too.

he NEEDS to be holding you while you sleep. ever since the incident with yae miko, he's trying to break the embarrassing habit of sleeping with his tail in his arms, and he figures you're the perfect replacement!
light sleeper and twitches in his sleep, a bit like dogs when they dream. it's adorable
subconsciously pulls you closer to him while he's asleep, too. having you near him is comforting.
he's incredibly warm! and his tail is SO fluffy. you might want to sleep on opposite sides of the bed during hot weather.
he hates this though, and you'll probably wake up in his arms. he'll deny moving you and say it must have been you who craved his hugs, not the other way around.

he's such an affectionate guy too. just be careful of the horns
his favorite position to sleep in is on his back with you on his chest. he WILL trap you with his arms
doesn't mean to trap you. but he's just so big and strong... it just kind of happens!
snores. it's annoying but endearing. he doesn't even know he's doing it
when he snores, the bridge of his nose will scrunch and it'll look a bit like he's snarling. sometimes his huge teeth come out
he's big, so he also exudes a lot of heat. however, unlike gorou, he won't even let you sleep on the other side of the bed
he Will hold you. there is no escape. he sleeps really soundly and pretty much doesn't move an inch all night.
itto is not a morning person. you have to shake him awake and then he whines about it.

kazuha is a light sleeper, but is quiet and careful enough never to wake you up when he does in the middle of the night.
he likes to wake up at the same time as you, so if he wakes up first, he waits for you before starting his day.

his favorite is sleeping facing each other, and sometimes you two find yourselves staying up until the early hours of the morning talking until he realizes it's one am and he has work tomorrow.

very awkward about sleeping with you
he's just nervous! you have to reassure him you're comfortable around him and would, in fact, prefer he sleep next to you comfortably than on the floor.
it takes him a while to warm up to the idea, and starts off very stiff, but over time, he learns that in fact, he sleeps much better when you're there with him.
cyno sleeps deeply, and doesn't shift much throughout the night. you could probably use him as a pillow if you wanted, he wouldn't object.
he likes when you sleep on his chest the most. the pressure of you being on him is very comforting and he likes having his arms around you.
he calls himself your "general mahamattress," and proceeds to overexplain even though the joke is rather clear. he's very sweet about it.

snuggles you like a koala when you sleep together. there's no escaping tighnari's grip of death.

he's found that a dab of sweet smelling flower dew on your forehead helps with sweet dreams, and while you're sleeping with him, you rarely have nightmares.

a few shuffles could be heard here and there after the photographer had announced that they would take a group picture once all the individual portraits had been done.
it had only been four months into the student exchange program and a lot had happened since the beginning, so you— who was just a mere human that they didn't know for so long— had never imagined to even have the honour of being in their own family picture. of course, things have calmed down after the incident with belphegor, yet you had never thought that they saw you as part of their family until now.
out of respect, you moved out of sight and stood behind the camera while the others got their clothes fixed for their next photo. they had been close brothers for thousands of years— even some time before their fall. it made you feel a bit dejected since you hadn't had the chance to visit your own family members back home, though you were glad to see that they looked a bit joyful to take their pictures together after such a long period.
"alright, we'll start taking pictures if everyone is set." the second and third oldest let out a couple curious mumbles as their eyes focused on the spot you were supposed to be sitting on. they all had consciously— yet maybe a little unconciously— left a space for you. the rest of the five demons looked over to the empty place on the gold and velvet couch as well before the seven pair of eyes scanned the room in search for you.
you were spacing out a bit as you sat on a chair near the photographer, staring at the humongous ceiling and back to the gold walls. you had taken self portraits a few moments before this, so you had thought that you finally got to remove the accessories that sat on your skin. fumbling with the metal, you were unconcious of the brothers' gazes on you.
"mc!" a familiar voice, which belonged to the avatar of greed, was the first one to snap you back into reality. there was a second of silence before you cocked your head to the side, a puzzled look sat on your face; why were they waving at you— some even pointing to an empty space next to lucifer on the sofa?
"come on, hon! we're waiting on you!" asmodeus exclaimed as a bright smile tugged on his lips. "maybe they needed to take a break to eat something really quick." beelzebub mumbled loud enough for you to hear. "i'm also quite hungry after all those photos that we shot."
the youngest brother chuckled at the red haired demon's comment. "that's only the case with you, beel. we've had plenty to eat this morning." you slowly stepped forward after a few more seconds of them staring at you fondly. there was a giddy feeling in your chest as you realized that they all had been waiting for you to sit on your designed place— in front of them, next to their oldest brother.
"isn't uhm– weren't you about to take a family portrait?" you muttered from under your breath, fidgeting with the material of your clothes. there was still an unsure feeling resting in your stomach because you didn't want to intrude their own special picture. "yes, we were."
lucifer spoke up and you lifted your head to look at him— his voice unusually soft. a slight smile appeared on his face as he reached out his gloved hand for you to hold on. "you are a part of our family now, aren't you?"
his response was followed by a few humms coming from behind him and so you took the demon's hand and slowly filled that empty space with your presence.
it was in that instant that you knew that you are going to be with them for the rest of your life, as a big and loving family. the fact that they accepted you this early on without you knowing or even thinking about that possibility, made tears swell up in your eyes.
you had finally found your own safe place— your own caring family. all eight of you completed each other.

let's start off with a "how you first met" story, shall we?

once he noticed the schedule you seemed to take (come in every Wednesday at exactly 3:00 pm and leave at 6:00pm), he asked if you'd like to accompany him on a walk one day through the harbor
AND HOW COULD YOU SAY NO?
slowly, the two of you became close friends and would hang around the harbor twice a week, walking around with a cup of tea in your hands while chatting about the trials of everyday life
and, slowly but surely, the two of you became more than that
zhongli quickly realized how relaxed and worry-free he felt around you. he didn't have to think about the future, or even the past, no matter how long it lived in his memory, he didn't have to worry about losing anything or anyone.
around you, he felt as if he was just zhongli; the mysterious advisor of the wangsheng funeral who seemed to know much more about liyue's extensive history better than any historian did; zhongli, the one who frequents with childe to a local restaurant and neglects to bring any mora for himself; zhongli. not rex lapis or morax, but zhongli.
once he realized that, zhongli felt certain you were the one for him. and even though you'd pass one day and fade into the dust, his love for you will still continue to shine like gold in the years to come.
