(UN)MADE SOLO RELAY SERIES: PART II COMING NOV. 2016

A new multi-layered solo by LINDA AUSTIN is remembered/mis-remembered by eight other dancers performing their own perfectly imperfect versions in a pass-along relay---the first stage of Austin's long term project (UN)MADE, a vehicle for the making, unmaking, transforming, transmitting, and distilling of performance and the performative self.

At once experiential inquiry and staged performance, (UN)MADE unfolds over the next 2-3 years in three stages: a pass-along solo for 8-10 performers; a group score for up to 40 trained or untrained performers that can be learned, adapted, practiced, and performed.

FIELD GUIDE TO DANCE - FIELD TRIP Facilitating a special travel edition of PICA’s Field Guide program! We’re headed on a day trip to Seattle by charter bus to see the world premiere of zoe|juniper’s BeginAgain at On the Boards! Saturday, March 29th for a workshop by FRONT collective (Noelle Stiles,Danielle Ross, Robert Tyree), the evening performance, and plenty of food/drinks/socializing. FRONT CELEBRATES THEIR EDITION 3 OF FRONT NEWSPAPER

FRONT makes public its  Fall 2013 Resource Room Residency (RRR) with a two-fold party revealing their research process and residency activity. Join us for drinks, food, conversation, and the launch of Edition 3 of FRONT Newspaper! 

Over the last three months, FRONT invited small, eclectic groups of artists, writers, and thinkers to select and screen documented dance performances from the RR collection and PICA video archives at periodic happy hours. Now, FRONT asks us to do the same, inviting us to wander, station to station, drinks in hand, to view previous guests' selections, make our own, and chat about the what and why, imagining the new inventions and latent oral histories uncovered by this sharing. 

FRONT's residency was also spent researching and developing content for their periodic newspaper, and so we will also celebrate the launch of ED. 3: RUBIES, a collection of translucent, sparkling writing from artists and thinkers traversing contemporary dance and performance, including Dana Michel, Kristy Edmunds, Atlanta Eke, Elizabeth Ward, Florin Flueras, and Lucy Yim. 

Featured in RUBIES is a piece by Barry Johnson on Mary Oslund  + Co., one of Portland's most prolific, accomplished, and influential dance-makers. On this evening, we will be honoring Mary and her career and hope you can join us.

THE COLLISION SERIES is an extension of FRONT’s experiments in dance, performance and community. FRONT has assembled an exceptional and unpredictable group of dancers, musicians and artists to come together to improvise a series of performances. In true experimental form, FRONT produces the potential for performance and then gets out of the way;  leaving behind few ground rules. The performers are left to their own devices in the lead-up to the performance. They can strategize as a group or not communicate at all, organize restrictions collectively, individually, or go forth in bold blindness. We have gathered some of Portland’s most intriguing performing artists together under daring and distinct circumstances, presenting impressive quantities of talent pushed off balance. This we also invite audience to participate as much or as little as they like.  What transpires is anyone’s guess but it promises to be a spectacular collision.
