Jessica took another swig from the bottle and allowed the single malt Scotch to warm her throat. Even though she drank alcohol like water, she had always gone for the cheap stuff. Out here in Europe, however, she had an expense account a mile long. The client was a woman whose husband was on the up and up in the diplomatic corps and she had sent Jessica on an all expenses paid trip to Copenhagen.

Jessica liked the place well enough and the people were nice, but it wasn’t New York. Everyone was too nice, too polite, too willing to help. Also, so many of them spoke English that Jessica had wondered for a moment if the hours long flight hadn’t dropped her off by accident in Great Britain somewhere.

Alas, she hadn’t been that lucky and, as soon as her investigating was over for the day, she had found this bar and plopped herself down right in front of the mirror to drink her sorrows away.

Jessica held the multitool in her hand and scraped away the inside of the bear skin. She placed the leftover in a little bowl that she would leave near the fireplace in case somebody wanted to cook with it. Of course, it wasn’t the kind of thing that would feed them for a week or even a month. Maybe a day or two if someone made a broth out of it.

Jessica tried not to think about how she had ended up stranded out here with her teammates in the middle of nowhere. She had been in another accident two years ago and she dreamed about more often than the plane crash that had brought her here. That accident had put her into a coma for six months, while this one given her a nasty case of whiplash and a concussion that had left her confused.

// Well, I think that love is something that is very complicated for Jessica. She thought that she was in love Kilgrave, but it was actually manipulation on his end to get her to do whatever he wanted. Whether she loved him in reality or not is something that Jessica has to sort out for herself and it is an going process.

With Luke, I think that her love for him was something that evolved over time. In the beginning, they just slept with each other and flirted back and forth. As time moved forward, I think that Jessica realized how good a person Luke was and how he didn't have any ulterior motive when he did things. I think those are the two main reasons why Jessica fell in love with him. This time, of course, her feelings weren't manipulated.

Luke had watering of the mouth as his wife began to set the table and selected his favorite toppings. The night was busy and left him on an empty tank. Chasing down villains, simply put, worked up an appetite. A guy like Cage’s size loved to eat and needed to. A lot.

"Well, if y'all need an extra muscle gimme a call. Me and Danny wouldn’t mind lending a hand if y'all need it.” Cage yawned, pinching the bridge of his nose, then sat at the table.“ How was Dani today?”

“Dani’s doing fine,” Jessica replied as she joined him at her end of the table. She enjoyed watching eat Luke more food than she could ever handle. Sure, she got hungry after kicking ass all day, but she couldn’t put away two gallon jugs of milk the way that he could. “She been doing a lot of babbling lately, trying out all kinds of new sounds.  Let’s hope she doesn’t have my filthy mouth.”

She had tried to keep her four letter words in check around Dani, but there had been the occasional fuck or shit that had been uttered in frustration. She hoped to God that Dani wouldn’t repeat them.

“Oh please,” Jessica shrugged her shoulders. “I’m not a hero. I’m just somebody who is doing what needs to be done because no one else will.” She gave the woman a slight smile. “And people with powers aren’t really the problem. Some scared kid does something out there, so the media decides that mutants are suddenly the enemy.” She shook her head. “Kids with superpowers are nothing. The real enemies are those people that need to be put in jail, but always slip through the cracks.”
