UnpopularOpinion: Lexie and Mark are not the best couple on *Grey's Anatomy*. They spent more time apart than together. That "teach me" moment was, to be honest, cringeworthy. Yes, they had chemistry and shared some adorable moments, and their longing for each other was cute, but that’s about it. Moreover, when Lexie was with other guys, Mark would hover over her like a strange uncle at a barbecue, always checking in on her when she was in other "relationships" when whatever was going on in that relationship wasn't any of his business. When she started dating Jackson, he claimed he was "giving" her to him—referring to her as if she were some sort of object. There was a moment when he became angry with her for sleeping with Alex, even after he had just told her that he slept with Addison. Why is it acceptable for him to sleep around to cope, but when she does it, it becomes a problem? Mark likes to have his cake and eat it, too, just like Derek; no wonder they're best friends. He wants her to be ready and willing to start a family with him, despite her repeatedly telling him that she is not ready; when she sets a boundary, it's a problem, but when he sets one, it's okay. In my opinion, their popularity largely stems from their tragic deaths. Lexie Grey deserved better than Mark Sloan. The writers of the show did her character a disservice by centering most of her storylines around him instead of developing her as an individual before her untimely death. I just don’t understand the hype surrounding them.
