Happy pride month, everyone! The school year is over for most, and many people are probably looking towards starting or continuing college for the upcoming fall. It should be known that approaching college as a transgender person can be difficult, this is coming from a trans person. You are 18-22 years old and don't know much about yourself, add dysphoria and struggles with your gender identity on to this. It is no joke, your parents are no longer there to keep you on track. You are depressed and don't know about how you feel about your body and how the world views you. You need to get yourself out of bed and get to class or work on your own accord, but your brain is distracted by the racing thoughts and you just can't bring yourself to do it. Yet, everyone else gets to just do it.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE

Before transitioning, I was having a lot of issues with my mental health. This was making it difficult to go to and pass my classes. I ended up having to sit out of some semesters because of this. But, after I was on testosterone for about 8 months, I was able to get on track and pass my classes. But even before transitioning, accepting the fact that I was indeed transgender did wonders for me. Young people need to be at least a little bit comfortable when navigating the new adult world that they are pushed into. It can be scary, but you can do it.
