I reach for every relic, every war trophy, every stolen chip of someone’s life, on the shelf. Every little piece of cruelty he took off the bodies of those he killed, that he robbed from their final resting places. The bone, the button, the stone. I cradle them all, gently, the way they deserve to be held. I find the edge of the world. I pull.
