Amphibimations!

Here is one of the Artfight attacks I’ve made this year, one of the ones that I particularly like how it turned out :-) … I had a lot of fun designing an outfit for the character based on the time period + location the story is set in.

IM DOING ARTFIGHT AGAIN THIS YEAR!!! THATS RIGHT!!!! 

Did you know there are 2 music albums by a band called La Nef that sets the story of Perceval to music? (And some of the tunes are from folk music. I don’t recognize most of them but I know they use ‘Fear A’Bhata’ and ‘Dives and Lazarus’, for example)

I couldn’t really find any info online about the lyrics or which songs correlate to which parts of the story, BUT… through a combination of looking at the original medieval french text while listening to the songs + using translations, I was able to figure out a few of them and i’m like …80% sure i’m right :-)… but I also don’t know french so i’m sure this would be easier if I did 😅.

Here are the ones I’ve figured out so far:

“Air des Chevaliers” (youtube) (spotify) this song actually had someone post a translation on youtube :-). It’s perceval hearing the sound of the knights’ armor and being scared of it.

“Biaux fils” (youtube) (spotify) is when perceval’s mom is like ‘dear son where have you been??’ And perceval tells her he just met some knights

“Ah! Lasse, comme suis mal baillie!” (youtube) (spotify) is his mom saying she doesn’t want him to be a knight because of his dad.

“Biaux frere, bienvenu soyez” (youtube) (spotify) is king arthur telling perceval about how the red knight is evil and spilled wine on the queen’s dress.

“Vallet, si tu vis sans age” (youtube) (spotify) is the girl who wouldn’t laugh telling perceval that he will be a great knight some day

I have been reading more arthurian stories but the thing i’m most obsessed with is Perceval by Chrétien de Troyes.

Perceval is like…. what if you had a medieval knight but he was a stupid teenager with ADHD who is also a mary sue that can kill everyone in a single hit and is the best at being a knight with zero training. He gets scared of the sounds of metal armor and thinks its demons coming after him. He doesn’t know his own name until like 3,000 lines into the poem and even then he’s just guessing what his name is and somehow gets it right. He seems to love his mom and always talks about her but he also saw her faint one time and was just like ‘oh well, that’s probably fine. I’m leaving.’ ..???????

Ive only seen like 5 posts on tumblr about perceval i need everyone to read perceval i am begging you please please please please please please please please please plea-
