[can i just say i really love how PMEX handled the Father or Foe story--in particular N's response to Ghetsis wanting to ""reconcile"", and everyone's support of N. but especially Alder. i mean that moment on the beach was so significant, with Alder reminding N that the conflict he's feeling inside is completely normal and part of being human. like ough.... what a touching moment..... and a contrast to the way that N was treated by Ghetsis for his whole life. that word human is so significant. then there's the fact that Alder doesn't tell N what to do, but that his words kinda guide N to finding the answer from himself.

and then the conclusion that N comes to--that Ghetsis is not automatically forgiven, but that the door to reconciliation is open (and then of course Ghetsis slams that door shut in N's face. par for the course). idk that really, really shows what kind of a person N is. he had every right to tell Ghetsis off, to kick him out of his life and resent him. but despite everything Ghetsis put him through, that's just not who N is at his core. he wants to bring out the best in people and Pokémon, so much so that he even clings to hope that Ghetsis can change. like, that really says a lot i think.]

[hmm, he's not very superstitious. i suppose a ritual that he does very naturally at this point is that of surveillance. even if he is 100% certain someone is too far under his spell to betray him--and there are definitely people like that, such as the Shadow Triad--he still needs to know where everyone is, what they're doing, possibly even what they're thinking. it's fun for him at this point. cat and mouse. and the huge eyes on his clothes are a reminder of his favorite game.

the story of Unova's founding! he tells that one pretty easily. i think when N was little, that was a story he heard more than once. it's always self-serving, though; either as a tool to manipulate the hearts of the populace or just to hype himself up. he's incorrigible.....

honestly, i headcanon that he only has one scar--the one around his right eye--and that the other injuries to his body are due to nerve damage as a result of the initial injury that caused the scar around his eye. (the nerve damage was exacerbated due the stress on his body after the events of BW--not only the emotional stress of losing but also the physical strain of having to escape prison etc)

that being said, he doesn't talk about the scar on his eye because he doesn't want to bring attention to it--really, he doesn't want to talk about anything aside from the pertinent. if talking about the scar somehow got him closer to his goals--like in the case of building rapport or something, then he would. he'd probably lie about how he got it, though...

as leader of team plasma? yes. but if we're going off of what is typically understood from "belonging"? i don't think he ever considers it. i don't think it's even crossed his mind once in his life. to him, there's only one role where he truly "belongs"--as the ruler of the entire world. but it's shown in USUM that it's never enough for him. once the high wears off, he grows restless and desperate again. and he gets worse. so i don't think that his current goal, world view, and sense of self as they are currently allow him to feel a true sense of belonging.]

I honestly think that what ultimately pushed Ghetsis over the edge in BW2 was not being beaten that final time (though that didn’t help matters) but N trying to get through to him, to talk reason into him. It’s hard to take accountability for your wrongdoings. And Ghetsis’ are plenty. Innumerable. He has ruined the lives of so many people and affected them in ways that leave them having to pick up the pieces.

So he cannot be wrong. His mind refuses to accept it. He has to be right because accepting that he was wrong opens the first door to having to grapple with the consequences.

So when N speaks in a way that contradicts his worldview, when N speaks like a human—that’s another crack in the façade. Ghetsis can do nothing but lash out, to berate N not just to wound him, but to affirm to himself that N really is just a freak, less than human. To demand that he stop talking because he can’t bear to be challenged like this anymore. This is such a contrast to BW1 where his final words are filled with such smarmy self-righteousness, because even after defeat, he’s still firmly set in the belief that he is right, and that everyone else around him is wrong, stupid, lesser than him. The Ghetsis in BW2 is broken and snarling and snapping like a caged animal, and I think it is because his mind is beginning to realize the truth of the situation: that he is wrong, that he has been wrong. And I think this disconnect between realization and acceptance is what finally caused him to snap.

I think that it’s also significant to note that N literally ends his final dialogue with Ghetsis by challenging him with a question that forces him to look inward: why can’t you accept the truth that others around you have already accepted? This is the final nail in the coffin I think. Because, despite everything, Ghetsis is still trying to justify to himself why it was that he lost a final time, how he could be bested by someone so inconsequential and insignificant—he outright says that he can’t accept the outcome. And while he’s still clinging to the last of his convictions, that he is perfection, that his desired world will be a reality, and as he’s likely scrambling in his mind for a way to justify his loss once more, N delivers that final verbal blow. And that’s something that Ghetsis cannot confront, but there is no other avenue to pursue.

[thinking about how in the father or foe event ghetsis has a shit-eating grin on his face the whole time…. He doesn’t even care about trying to sell it, just use his words superficially. He’s so self satisfied while lying through his teeth while doing the bare minimum of manipulation. Yeah that’s BA2 ghetsis alright]
