The night so far had been rich with opulence and musical laughter but the rush she’d craved had come and gone in little doses, teasing her to lose herself in the plastic night sky. The night was still young when she saw Easton’s Prince of Hell, devilishly handsome as he approached her at the corner of the room where the only light was the dull glow of the convincingly real stars. A small smirk found its way on her cherry painted lips, one typically reserved for him as she leaned off the railing, and moved closer to him. “And I’m happy to negotiate, as long as you don’t fuck up and put my soul to waste.” Her feet felt light on the towering heels and despite her dress being quite revealing on its own, the fabric felt claustrophobic against her buzzing skin. “You look nice”.
“I don’t make promises. I leave it up to others to read the fine print.” She was dressed in red and wore the color with intent. The fabric clung sinuously in a way that was meant to magnetize gazes to it, and his was no exception; Noah gave the dress an approving up-and-down sweep of his eyes, and her low-spoken compliment drew an off-center smile from him as he looked up at her again. “Charlotte picked a hard dress to compete with, but I think I’ve held my own. I don’t think I have to tell you that you look stunning, but you do look,” he extended a hand to her, “like you want to dance.”

“I’m kinda disappointed, the phone number didn’t have one damn six in it.” She frowned at the way Noah’s amusement drained from his face. Jack’s reputation was a dangerous one, no doubt. “He’s had his fill of blood and sand tonight. He looks out for me.” She felt like the primary school teacher consoling a kid who’d been pushed on the playground, defending her brother. “Raf talks a lot, he was kinda asking for a split lip.” Vinny nodded in the direction of the sullen subject of conversation, “He kinda even wears that black eye like a fuckin’ purple heart of bravery.”
He followed her gaze in the direction of Rafael Adelson, who was indeed sporting a shiner the exact color of ripe eggplant, painfully fresh even from a distance. For some reason, the sight left him unconvinced of her reassurances; Noah conveyed this with another side-eyed glance at the petite girl, eyebrows still arched high. “For my sake, I hope you’re right. These cheekbones would shatter like fine china,” he stated matter-of-factly, a hand grazing his face thoughtfully.

Eleanor shivered in the dress her brother had sent over from one of his trips abroad. It had been a stroke of luck when Charlotte had settled on red dresses, as Eleanor wasn’t sure she’d have the heart to wear anything else. For all her proclaimed loyalty to Billings and the girls that resided there, the only real pull she felt towards anyone was to her brother William. A voice in the back of her head whispered this was the sort of world she’d be a part of for the rest of her life and something inside her screamed for a reprieve. Spotting Noah off to the side, the girl made it a point to drift in that direction, figuring he might have some remedy for the noise in her chest. “If I remember correctly it was the ruling class there who also were drenched in red. But then who ever gave a shit about the French, tradition’s never really been their style.” There was a bite of sarcasm and bitter humour she hoped might slip by unnoticed by the boy who posed the question
"An astute observation,” Noah conceded with a wry smile, though her additional, rather acidic, comment prompted a raised eyebrow from him. “Don’t let the Lafleurs hear you bashing on their culture, they might take it personally. The Wrights, too, for that matter. I’m pretty sure they’re dual citizens.” But his words weren’t really a reprimand; he had no French blood in his veins to defend, and even if he had, it wouldn’t have boiled like it did in others. Most affronts and insults slid off of him like water off a duck’s back. Now, he regarded the Billings brunette with a more critical gaze, though the smile lingered behind. “What’s got you so sour on a beautiful night like this?”
“I’m going to say that money isn’t everything, and I can say that because I have it. Ketlar is a cool house, I consider us all brothers: but it’s time to get rid of the trash—“ he slammed his hand onto the podium, “and I’m talking about Noah Reischer.”

renegaderyder:
“Which one?” Valentine countered, cocking an eyebrow at the boy. “There were many. The French are a very unhappy people.” Her own dress, which she thought might blend into the background slightly – with its core color being black – actually worked in the opposite direction. She stood out amongst her supposed peers. Though the makeup her grandmother had given her (“You’ll regret those tattoos one day.”) and the temporary brown hair dye did a decent job at disguising her. Unless they were a fellow Pemberly, Valentine was almost certain that she wouldn’t be recognized. “Bad joke aside, your point stands. I hope no one here thought they were being creative or original by wearing red tonight.”
He didn’t recognize the girl immediately, and that alone was enough to pique his interest; there were very few faces that Noah wouldn’t recognize in Easton’s halls, especially those with the privilege to attend Legacy, an exclusive circle endorsed by the school itself. Coupled with her distinct lack of red, she seemed like a stranger to this room altogether, but she did have that vague note of familiarity that came with faces seen in passing and forgotten. Probably someone’s plus-one from Pemberly. “I know a few, and they don’t seem more unhappy than most,” Noah observed on her remark about the French, shoulders rising and falling in a faint shrug. “I actually think a color scheme requires more creativity and originality than no color scheme. It’s much harder to stand out. I’d bet a fortune that no two dresses in this room are alike.”
vinnylafleur:
She glanced over Noah, taking another sip of the jungle juice before replying. “You’re being impersonated, did you know? Lucifer sent me a text, and it wasn’t you.” She liked Noah enough, he was Ketlar to his core, combination businessman and playboy. “Aaron’s taken up nature photography lately. His hands were a little shaky but he caught something in the wild.”
“Identity theft? I’ll contact my lawyer,” he mused, aiming a wry smile down at her before finishing the rest of his own glass with a generous gulp. The dregs were pure alcohol at this point, but it wasn’t the taste that soured his expression after she spoke. “Yeah, I saw. I also heard that your brother’s been on the warpath lately. So I guess it’s a good thing Aaron won’t be hired by National Geographic any time soon.”

He kept up his end of the bargain, even though there were plenty of other distractions tempting his eye in this ballroom painted red- even familiar faces seemed somewhat new, somewhat more intriguing, in the shimmering, dimlit aura of Legacy. But at the crest of the hour, as the dancefloor filled up in response to another requested song, Noah spotted the familiar face he’d been looking for standing, as she’d promised, in a more shadowy and secluded corner of the room. He approached with his hands tucked into his pockets, smirk tucked into the corner of his mouth. “I’ve come to negotiate the terms of a certain promised transaction. Something about a dance in return for a soul.”
vinnylafleur:
It was over the top in a way that made her feel out of place, where everyone held themselves a little more stiffly. The place was beautiful, decked out in stars in a way that made everything shimmer, golds and blacks and far too much damn red. It was too expensive for her taste, and she took it all in, the punch in a crystal glass more alcohol than fruit juice and her heels making her more Bambi than girl. “If I keel over right here,” she muttered, to the person who’d found themselves by her side, “Just let my body fucking rot.”
Noah made a small noise of amusement somewhere in his throat; Vinny could blend seamlessly into the red sea of Billings beauties, at least until she let loose a comment like that- which happened almost as frequently as she opened her mouth to breath. “Is that what you really want? To be trampled under all these Louboutins? You’d be seeing red for eternity.”
With Swarovski-studded heavens above, Easton’s best and brightest were a sea of red below; it brought a discreet smile to his face knowing that Charlotte had been the one to orchestrate the seeping crimson of this year’s Legacy. By now she’d slipped her hand from his elbow and melted away into the crowd for a moment; they each had their own voting population to cater to, and Noah had a business to maintain on top of that- he took a drink from an offered tray, and topped off the harmless sparkling cider with a practiced sleight of hand and a monogrammed silver flask. His own social rounds were simple; his customers came to him, not the other way around, so for now, Noah was content to remain on the sidelines of the room and make small talk with the other souls that had drifted there. “There hasn’t been this much red in one place since the French Revolution,” he remarked idly to whoever it was that stood nearby, lips curling up slightly at his own joke.

Kara: Then I think I'll sell my soul for a dance with the devil..look for me?
Kara: Who's the unlucky arm candy?
Noah: that's a binding contract, you know. I'll be coming to collect.
Noah: Charlotte Wright, though I'm more of her accessory than she is mine.

Kara: So, is Lucifer making an appearance tonight?
Noah: the Devil would never miss such a good press opportunity.
Noah: though I think the red suit will remain retired, at least for tonight.
