I guess it’s because

They hate happiness.

This is one of my favourite moments from the entire cruise. There is just so much love in this video.

You can see how much the fans love Jon in this video. It also provides fodder for my headcanon that we, the fans, are kind of a “safe place” for him and he can just open up like this to a bunch of strangers. Because, listen, you won’t get this from a lot of bands.

And then he cries, and then Donnie is crying too, and the hug - it is just so emotional. Because I actually do not think that Donnie would want to keep the New Kids going if Jon wouldn’t be a part of it. It wouldn’t be the same for him. 

Then while the crowd is singing to Jon, you can see it on both their faces - they need that time to recover from this. They’re both still overwhelmed by the moment but with the crowd singing back at them, gradually, they get back to their gracious party host selves and get on with the absurdity that was supposed to go all night but actually ended around 3:30 in the morning.

It was, honestly, so soul-crushingly beautiful.
