“You shouldn’t be here, ya know. Not a lot of heroes like vigilantes.” The hero spoke, leaning against a wall. “What brings you, anyway?”

“yeah, and don’t i know it. maybe that’s why i thought i’d crash,” he said, staring down into his half empty glass of bourbon. irwin gave a small smile as he looked toward her. “or maybe it was for the free drinks.”

“Well, we’d want something to do with you if you weren’t doing what you were doing” The blonde shrugged “I mean, you guys kinda isolate yourself, no one to really blame for that” she pointed out “You think it’s edgy or something to want a death wish” she then rolled her eyes at the very thought. The blonde then frowned at his words and her lips set into a thin line “Listen buddy, I wouldn’t go into that with me, you don’t know the first thing about why I’m a hero” she warned.

Jason waited until some came to help. He was glad the other was reassuring girl. Reassures wasn’t one of the talents Jason had. He had many but that wasn’t one them. When the other got into position, Jason did too. “On three! One, two, three!” He shouted then pushed with all his might. At that moment he wished he had super strength. The whole rescuing people would be a lot easier. He knew if he used his power, he would cause more damage than anything. He waited until the girl had escaped before letting. “What are you doing here?” He asked. 

the weight that befell him was lifted the second he saw the girl come out from underneath the pillar. he was reminded that the ache of the moment was worth it. irwin watched as the girl began her route to safety, a sense of relief washing over him in the midst of adrenaline running high. he let out a deep breath, as shaky as it may have been, and turned his attention to the man opposite him. “right place at the wrong time, i guess.” he spoke all too casually. “stroke of bad luck.”

The blonde pursed her lips into a fine line, she then gave a small nod- at least he had some sort of understanding at her words. “Well, you must be, otherwise you’d stop staking your life like you do everyday” She said simply, her eyes giving a slight narrow at him. “I’m not judging on what’s been told to me alone, I’ve run into so many Vigilantes who think they are the bees knees but they’re just not, they just get killed….I mean, you have to see where I’m coming from, sure you’ve not been killed yet, but you’re hardly equipped to survive for long” she tried to explain, shaking her head at what she considered arrogance from him. “I have made up my mind, I don’t really know why you think I’m going to just miraculously change my mind on the subject? It’s like people who are too cowardly to join an organisation being selfish and trying to do their own thing, I mean…I can’t see past that whole idea”

“You don’t know that, you’re not training me” she bit back, then narrowing her eyes “How can you judge on a process you won’t even be apart of, or are you too scared to be?” she wondered.  She then looked confused as it almost seemed to look like the other was fading away, the blonde wondering if she’d been imagining him almost “Well, I have to be….” she said simply “Because otherwise I’d be walked all over and I need a voice in an already loud city that would happily swallow someone like me up”

Angel took a breath, smoke coming off her hands, she had never felt such power before and it amazed her, it was almost the same thrill that she got when she smelt clean bedsheets, soft, safe and comforting, like it was the best feeling ever. She just needed to control it. “I’m not a hero, I’m a trainee, but I want to be a hero” she said simply, the last part of her sentence fading since it was something that she’d not wanted for ages, if anything it had been Liberty that had almost adopted her and pulled her into the Union “I tried to tell you” she stammered “I didn’t mean to blast you like that”

He believed what he was saying, but she could still hear the intention to deceive, to conceal wrapped around his words.  His attempt at a diversion certainly didn’t help either.  Still, it was clear he didn’t want to talk about it, so she let him change the topic for the time being, uncomfortable pressing the issue.  “I think we should, there was a d-double batch today.  I’ll bring one over with um, with your coffee if there are.”  She watched him for another moment, and then went on her way to retrieve both.

There were, in fact, two blue berry muffins left, and she placed one a plate before making the espresso.  Her mind wandered back to the bruises as she packed the grounds into the machine and watched the dark liquid stream out.  She knew he wasn’t telling the truth, and with everything happening in the city lately…It wasn’t any of her business, but he was so young, and the marks looked far too much like the ones her father used to bring home.

She carefully walked the plate and the mug back over to him when the coffee was ready, setting them down gently next to the laptop.  “You uh, you got lucky today.  It was one of two.”  Then, taking a deep breath, Sara pushed some hair out of her face before trying again.  “That uh, that doesn’t look like nothing.  Certainly n-not like, well,just a scuffle, even a bad one.  Are you- are you sure you’re, okay?”  She wasn’t sure what she was hoping for, but that need to be helpful was burning in her chest again, so she had to try.

"i guess today really is my lucky day.” it was the little things that seemed to improve them. whether it was a smile from a stranger on the street after passing endless glares, an extra hour off work, the sound of music blaring from the apartment upstairs... or in this case, the familiar aroma of a freshly made blueberry muffin. god, he couldn’t remember the last time he had one. irwin grew tense as the questions persisted. he didn’t have it in him to argue. as a matter of fact, he didn’t want to. even without his daily intake of coffee and lack of sleep the night before, he wasn’t going to snap at her for showing concern. on any other day... maybe. but not today. he was too exhausted to even consider it.

“alright, you got me. it was more of a fight than just your average run in...” he explained. the intention of manipulating it to his benefit remained prevalent, but he was honest. that was enough to leave him with a clean conscience. he leaned back in his seat, turning to look at her. “but i’m alright. i’ve got everything i need right here.” he gestured toward the table, carefully trying to avoid accidentally knocking something over. the last thing he needed was a broken laptop and more bills to pay. “i got my work, a cup of coffee, the world’s best blueberry muffin and wonderful service. what more could a guy ask for?”

“Mom, just gimme a sign” she whispered to herself, her back to Irwin and figuring that he would have just given up and gone. The blonde was about to close her eyes and try to calm down until the other phased through her, her anger then flaring up so much that her hands lit up and she blasted him back with her raw energy “I TOLD YOU TO STAY AWAY!” She yelled, the floor cracking some more around her, the blonde then yipping and then using her powers to blast some rubble away that was about to fall on the other, he was annoying but she didn’t want to kill him.
