Me and the devil walkin' side by side
I know Iām really late to the party here, but I just saw Mufasa: The Lion King and Iām sorry youāre trying to tell me that Scarās (arguably one of the best Disney villains of all time) great villain origin story is that he and Mufasa liked the same girl but she chose Mufasa and somehow thatās Mufasaās fault even though Mufasa was, like, actively encouraging Taka and Sarabi.
They had 30 years to figure this out and thatās the best they could come up with???
Honestly that doesnāt even rank high on my issues with the Mufasa movie⦠basically these are my issuesā¦
Mufasa being an orphan
Scar being called Taka but neither Mufasaās parents nor Takaās parents were named Ahadi and Uru
The Pridelands being called Milele (which honestly is a cool concept on its own) when that name has never been used for the Pridelands
Pride Rock suddenly appearing⦠when Lion Guard show makes it clear Pride Rock, and the Pridelands as a Kingdom by default, have existed for generations, not to mention Ahadi and Uru and Six New Adventures books
Taka becoming Scar and gaining his Scar from an attack from Kyros⦠when Lion Guard already explained how Taka became Scar
Kiros and his pride being called the Outsiders, which was the same name for Ziraās pride, thereby implying both prides are linked⦠when there was no connection even vaguely hinted at, except for Scar briefly aligning with Kiros I guessā¦
Sarafina never featured, which honestly Iām just disappointed bc of my love of theories of Nalaās family
In summary, it messes with the previous Lion King Disney movies and show when it comes to timelines, canon, fact, character personalities, etc, not to mention Six New Adventures which granted is semi-canon at best, but the Disney movies and show are officially Disney, so they are canon as far as Iām concerned (granted there are also issues with Lion Guard but those can more easily be explained or ignored bc theyāre minor things in comparison to Mufasa). Anyways yeah I have issues with the Mufasa movie. I have come up with my own explanations to make it work. Basically itās the story of two lions named Mufasa and Taka from countless generations ago, there was actually a lioness named Sarabi, as well as a mandrill named Rafiki and a bird named Zazu. The Rafiki whoās telling the story ended up choosing his own name when he became the Royal Mjuzi to Mufasa, and he chose the name Rafiki after the original Rafiki who features in the adventures of the movie. Current day Mufasa and Scar/Taka who are related to Simba were named after the original Mufasa and Taka from countless generations ago. Sarabiās parents named her Sarabi for the same reason and since she was betrothed to current day Mufasa from the time she was born. Zazu can simply be a popular name for birds, especially hornbills. Storyteller Rafiki is teaching Kiara, and we know from experience, his stories and lessons donāt always make complete sense and sometimes bend reality and the exact truth. So he could have changed the story slightly to make it more relatable to Kiara, and when she gets older, she would learn the story of the First Mufasa in more detail. After several generations of ancient Mufasaās pride living in Milele, something horrible happened and the lions had to flee Milele. Several more generations later, the word Milele had become simply a word of legends, and no one remembered exactly where it was or was sure it even existed. Lions return to the land once known as Milele, end up calling it the Pridelands, and voila the dynasty that would eventually lead to current day Mufasa and Taka/Scar and Sarabi and Simba and Nala was born. Itās likely that eventually Royal Mjuziās began serving the king of the Pridelands, and they would likely have knowledge of Milele as well the ability to communicate with the ancestors and teach the king and other lions of the pride to do so, and this is how the memory of Milele returned to the Pridelanders.
Let's start with the fact that Barry Jenkins has long indicated that his work is a free interpretation of the story. The end. Why do people keep talking about how everything about the new film doesn't fit with the other TLK films... as if that's such a big deal š
I know itās essentially a stand alone movie, but Iāve just been obsessed with tlk for years and I always try to connect things back to canon facts, in literally everything I get obsessed with. I know for most people itās not a big deal, and honestly I really love the movie, I saw it four times in theaters. My brain just insists on coming up with theories and ideas to connect everything to everything lol. Trust me, itās not just tlk that I do this with. Iāve done this same type of thing, same obsession level with Warriors cats book series, httyd movies and shows, etc. My issues are not anything truly against the movie itself, just my struggles in my own desire to connect it back to everything else in tlk universe.
Oh, ok, Iām sorry if my text seemed mean, peace š¤š¾š

CAILEE SPAENY and DAVID JONSSON as RAIN and ANDY in ALIEN: ROMULUS (2024) dir. Fede Alvarez
Spoilers: his facial acting was phenomenal. Made me genuinely question if they used CGI to simulate android behavior. Most android characters in film are played very human-like to the point where you often forget theyāre meant to be a synthetic. But David Jonsson kept the performance cranked up to a hundred the whole time. The little twitches, the movement of the eyebrows, the mouth articulation!!
