i realized i haven't shared very much about my self insert, so here's a little bit of info about her relationships to the other characters :3
*these aren't MY real thoughts on the characters!!! just my s/i's!
mob: "mobu... one of my best friends! i'm so proud of how far he's come."
~ close friends. met in their second year of middle school (at most, a few months before canon?) and quickly got closer. nishi comes over to his house often, and mob feels comfortable with/tolerates (lovingly) her touchiness. she sits directly behind him in class and likes to bug him when there's nothing else to do. one day, he brought her into spirits & such for a consultation, and she ended up coming back to hang out there on the days mob has work.
reigen: "hah, he could at least pretend to care about what i'm talking about. thanks for the snacks, though…"
~ close friends. met through mob, where she came in for advice about a crush she had at the time. at first she was intimidated, but after a couple more visits she grew much more comfortable with him. now likes to sit in his office (even when mob isn't there) and do homework or scroll on her laptop. he doesn't mind, and affectionately refers to her as the office's "bodega cat," claiming that her presence "livens up the place for clients." whether that's true or not is up for debate. when there's a slow day, nishi rambles to him about whatever's on her mind. if she sticks around for the end of his workday, reigen will take her out for treats, often ice cream.
ritsu: "he doesn't have to stare at me so coldly when i come over…"
~ friends. doesn't speak a lot to him at school because nishi is his senior, but when she comes over to the kageyamas' house they end up awkwardly passing each other in the hall. she likes to tease and prod him, and he gets irritated, but they have developed an actual friendship outside of that.
teru: "he's so sweet to me, we go to the mall together bi-weekly! i'm proud of him. such an asshole. (affectionate)"
~ close friends and roommates. met through mob sometime between s1 and s2, and ended up really getting along. a few months later, nishi moved into his studio apartment with him to get away from her guardians. teru's parents are aware that she moved in but don't have any specific opinion on her. the two hang out often, usually going shopping, and have gotten pretty comfortable together. nishi's noticed his growth over time and is very happy with the person he's become.
shou: "he lives in another city, so we don't hang out as much as i'd like. i looove texting him, though! he always responds in seconds."
~ friends. they don't see each other very much but exchanged phone numbers at some point, and now message each other regularly. they go out for boba whenever they see each other. nishi is completely unaware of his history, and he doesn't make a point to mention it, but she has noticed his odd little quirks here and there.
tome (+ some of the telepathy club): "she and i have sleepovers sometimes! last time we painted each other's nails. the rest are fun too, although inukawa is a little competitive when we play games."
~ good friends. she and tome clicked, both being the same genre of Weird Girl™ at their school. was very sad when tome went off to high school, despite still meeting everyday at spirits & such. now that mob is out of the office, these two and serizawa tend to talk a lot when there's nothing to do. generally friendly with the rest of the telepathy club. at school, she plays video games with inukawa and saruta. is neutral toward takenaka and kijibayashi.
serizawa: "i thought i was super good at pokémon… but he's on another level. we chat sometimes, but he doesn't want to hang out with me, i wonder why…?"
~ friends/acquaintances. serizawa was initially nervous around nishi, who has known the other spirits & such employees much longer, but as his confidence grew, their friendship developed further. first bonded over both liking the same animes and console games. nishi tries to invite him to hang out, but he worries that she should be hanging around actual peers her age instead of him.
toichiro: "ah, that guy from the news! he's also shou's dad… i think he's cute."
~ haven't met. nishi sort of found him attractive when she saw his face in the broadcast where he declared he'd be taking over the world, and also participated in the online discussions where the internet turned him into a meme. only later found out that he was shou's dad, and used it to tease shou.
ekubo: "um. i'm not sure what you want me to say…"
~ acquaintances. generally on neutral terms, but nishi has jokingly flirted with him before in order to disturb both him and everyone else in the room. it deeply worried mob. the only reason she's able to see him is because he had to possess her in a tough situation, and she then gained the ability to see him. they'll talk if no one else is around...

first, they go trick or treating, then have a small halloween party at the end of the night!!!
teru is the BEST DRESSED BITCH at the party. he cares about halloween cuz he has an excuse to dress up. if he isnt wearing some Stupid shit he probably just has a regular outfit on + cat ears (although his witch (?) fit from that one art is good)
im not sure how this came to me but i have to make one of them a priest for the whole exorcist thing. i think mob deserves a cuter costume so serizawa can be a priest. sure
oh and for mob i think his costume would be a devil. i just really love that official art. he looks cutie
ritsu was originally going to stay home and maybe watch a halloween movie with his family, but since mob wanted to go dress up he decides to be a werewolf!!! Tbh ritsu seems like a "this is my halloween costume" tshirt guy but this year hes putting in more effort. is completely wiped out at the end of the night (<- introvert)
nishi is a classic sheet ghost and reigen finds it real funny. ekubo isnt particularly impressed. shes a trick or treat warrior and probably ends up with the most candy but is very insistent on doing candy trading once they get back home. even though she got the most, a lot of it is stuff she doesnt like
i know shou is doing something devious. i jjust know it. hes doing Something. hes up to some stupid shit. if he were also a sheet ghost, he would probably fly up and scare random citizens. but honestly i think hed dress up as a zombie!!!
originally the obvious choice for tome would be an alien right. but i think she would actually be an astronaut or something like that! on the other hand inukawa is definitely going as an alien,
reigen takes mob and his friends trick or treating (he acts annoyed at having to take them but enjoys the nostalgia. Also he doesnt have anything else to do anyway) but before they go he says some shit like "keep your eyes peeled! with all these fake ghost a real evil spirit could slip right past" and everyone is like Ok reigen.
at some point they actually DO encounter a spirit. nobody was really paying attention when he warned them and theyre all caught off guard. and ritsu is like "woah! i thought reigen was just trying to make more work for my brother!! (/s)"
they have a small party/get together and hang out for a while until everyones sleepy. they chat, play halloween-y music, tell scary stories, and the kids trade candy.
ritsu is dead on the couch. shou is trying to scare the others with his stories and mob is just not scared at all (in reference to the urban legends arc). reigen is complaining about his feet hurting after walking so long. teru is so content hes sitting on the floor eating his candy like this ^u^. nishi is picking through all her candy and giving ones she doesnt like to mob
i have a lot of thoughts. i might come back to this. excuse any nmistakes im not reading this back

welcome to a post about how yumeship and selfship are not a one to one in history or culture: and why many using yumeship to mean "just the japanese word for selfship" have watered down in origin.
hello anyone reading this post. we are a japanese system here to bring up the use of yumeship in western groups. we see many in liomogai using it hence why we are making a post on this blog. but this applies to anyone outside of liomogai as well. warning that we have dyslexia and schizophrenia which may affect wording but we're trying to be helpful and easy to understand :]. this post is being written by a blurred front + multiple alters to explain the we/us use. we also want to clarify this is not us gatekeeping non japanese people from using yumeship. it is fully fine to do so! this post is not trying to make everyone stop altogether.
let's have an easy start to this. yume in japanese means dream. it's rooted in the concepts of dreams and imagination. i'll assume, or at least hope all who use yumeship know this. anyway yumeship and other yume(x) words are from dream novel culture that originated in the 1990s and early 2000s. do you who use yumeship know what a dream novel is? in simple terms it does indeed dive into and mean fanfiction, but a specific type. it's a culture using self inserts and selfshipping yes, but specifically to a much stronger emotional level. it was made to strengthen self projection. "becoming the main character and entering the original work like a dream". there is notable history leaning into delusions actually, which we've never seen any western people really.. mention. it's an interesting side to the history but obviously isn't the entire reason for being yumeship; just a side of the culture. yumeship also, especially back then, was always self inserting in as the protagonist and having everything and everyone revolve around you. not as a side or background character. our first question for others is; how common in western self shipping is that definition / situation what you mean by selfshipping? if not, how come yumeship is being used?
onto the next part of the words. there's a different vibe when saying "I self ship with x" vs "I dream of / imagine being with x". obviously the yumeship community has broadened and grown, but that's always been the root of the word. it's something we are confused on when we see some people using yumeship instead of selfship, especially those who are uncomfortable with people implying the relationship is not real or imagination. using it when imagination & dreams are the origin of the literal word. so that is our second question; if you are someone who is uncomfortable with that yet uses yumeship, why? what makes it feel fitting? did you know the above information when deciding it fit?
we also want to touch on other words part of the culture:
yumejoshi meaning dreaming girl. nowadays we see many call it the feminine word for people who yumeship, to be more inclusive we assume which is good! but we do want people to know it originally is labeled as "female-aligned individuals / women", since joshi translates to young woman / girl and female. for anyone who doesn't wish to be called either.
yumedanshi meaning dreaming boy. same as the above where nowadays we see many call it the masculine word for people who yumeship. but it originally is labeled as "male aligned individuals / men", since danshi translates to young man / boy and male. for anyone who doesn't wish to be called either.
we think there should be inclusive words for feminine people who are not women or female, same with masculine people who are not men or male. we think the terms can be made more broad, but don't want any to mistranslate the words. there are two options we know of :]! yumejin or yumebito meaning dreaming person, both options use person rather than a strict gender. unfortunately we rarely if ever see those mentioned much western wise.
another thing involving those. we seen some people say that yumejoshi and yumedanshi are the long versions of yume in general. which isn't accurate as explained above. due to this we often see people say "i'm a yume", "i'm a sharing/nonsharing yume". when you translate the full phrase into japanese it's just saying "i'm a dream", "i'm a sharing/nonsharing dream" it sounds more confusing when actually translating it does it not? we will add in that saying "yumes" at least does make sense, dreamers is a word that is used in dream novels. but that being said, our third question; if you call yourself a yume, do you also call yourself a dream? if not how come? if the answer is along the lines of "people know what i mean by yume", english wise, likely, if they know what yumeship is at least. but we need to consider the actual language it's from. why is it seen as normal to randomly insert a japanese word into an english sentence. (we are not referring to actual bilingual conversations that naturally do so.) why is it often if not only japanese that gets words picked to use?
we are unsure how to properly make an ending note for this. but we hope it was able to give people some free information and history to enjoy, alongside causing others to consider if yumeship actually fits them or not - ❔️

imreally late by now but happy birthday ritsu youre so real. im sorry about the everything. i hope you get so much yummy tofu and nobody is mad at you for a day. maybe not Today because Its not your birthdya anymore but you understand. and also you get shigeo bonding time
i still love this show and my stupid self insert who is literally just me but in mob psycho so heres some rambles about nishi + ritsu
nishi (self insert) isnt able to get ritsu anything fancy for his birthday so she just shows up to his house with a box of cake mix, a can of frosting, and some icing gel. ritsu sees her at the door and is automatically like "oh uh hey shige is upstairs if you wanted to see him..." and shes like "no im here for you!!! lets bake a cake"
and hes confused Because not onlydo they never really hang out or talk one on one but also... he doesnt Particularly like cake? so she probably just... wanted to bake? and decided to use this opportunity to do so?
but hesnot upset about it or anything. theyre kind of friends. so ritsu just lets her in and helps her bake the cake. at first hes a bit awkward but by the time they start decorating theyre both happily chatting about meaningless stuff. yay!
shigeo smells them baking and comes downstairs and the three take a picture together with the really shittily decorated cake. it has little icing gel drawings on top ^_^ ritsu still doesnt Love cake but hes happy to eat it... since theyre frands. yay. nishi picked a very mildly sweet cake flavor compared to what she usually likes in an attempt to appease ritsu (who she does in fact know isnt a huge fan of cake) but in the end mob liked it the most
sorry this is bullshit i just missed these characters. ritsu especially my special son. i dont know if he even is a cake neutral-er but thats the vibe he gives off
