So the Qwel response came out.
I need to start by saying I do not yet fully believe or support her!!!! My nuance will very likely be misconstrued as support so I need to make it plain that this is just my thoughts. (Also this is a serious post and I apologize for it being here as this is meant to be a comfort account, but it's too important. Skip this post if you're not looking to engage with discourse.)
First of all. YES it was a very poor apology. More centered towards the DW fanbase than the victims whose passiveness caused more harm. And there was some deflection present that I didn't like.
BUT. People are claiming it's a shit response because she didn't go into detail about all the claims and allegations surrounding her. what? first of all, a lot of extra claims springing up have no proof. And also, if she's taking a legal approach as she says, that means she cannot legally disclose intimate information about what's true or not until everything is sorted.
The DW fandom consists mostly of teens. Teens are very opinionated children who think in extremes. A lot of misinformation regarding controversies outside of the main one are being spread like Telephone by tiktok rant accounts. No, Qwel is not "suing victims", C+D letters are NORMAL for people who worked for someone and consented to signing an NDA. NDAs can't be signed without consent. There's no evidence that I can find for other minor claims such as that she "stole toon designs from ex-employees" or that she underpaid/abused employees, outside of screenshots of tweets floating around the community.
Does this mean I absolutely think she's innocent? No, not yet. But people online really need to rub their brain cells together and consider things. Now more than ever we have people believing anything they read online if it's shared by a well-meaning kid. PLEASE just do research into the allegations and claims (and how legal stuff works) before having a stance. This is serious and the meat of it should be worrying about who is actually hurt by this situation and not claims tossed around by people on tiktok.
