I was losing my shit during this scene. I have never been so anxious during a fight scene in all of MCU. It is a credit to the creators behind the MCU-verse that they knew this fight would stress the FUCK out of fans. We’re so invested in the characters, but Tony. Tony was the one who started this all and Tony is the one burdened with visions, so anxious for his friends’ survival that he would do anything, anything, to protect them. I’m Team Cap all the way, but the way that Tony fought with everything he had broke my heart. He’s so out of his depth here and it’s clear, as Thanos rips his suit to shreds. But he fights to the death, or near death, because it’s the right thing to do. I just can’t handle this. He presents as a confident, cocky, snarky bastard, but his heart for humanity, for his parents, for Pepper and Happy, for the rest of his Avengers, for Peter… it’s just so big. And it makes my own heart hurt knowing that he did everything he could and it still wasn’t enough. And everything he feared came to pass.

Reblogging this again, because people made a big deal about Rogers holding off Thanos’s gauntlet-wielding arm (for all of, what, 3 seconds?), and here is Tony (a regular, non-super-serumed, non-super-powered Tony) who blocks a full swing from that same gauntlet-wielding arm with nothing but his own (non-super-serumed) two hands and continues to hold him off with just one hand, using his other to try and shank the guy.  No wonder he has the Titan’s respect.  Seems like he’s the only human who does.
