there's a glance over his shoulder, only briefly. he doesn't want to take his eyes off the sonofabitch. his mom is going to kill him. but he's a father now. he has a responsibility to this tiny baby demogorgon. plus, maybe they could study it! for science! just as long as it didn't eat any more cats or hurt anyone. that would probably be the bigger and harder issue to handle.   “ you still down for helping ? “ 

"Jesus, do you have to yell?" Steve brushed off the imaginary ringing in his ear. His eyes glanced over the otherwise empty kitchen and then the creature came into view. It was like the thing he saw last year with Jon and Nancy except smaller and it walked on all fours like a dog.

Instinctively, he backed up slightly. "The hell are you doing keeping this in your house, Henderson?" Kid was crazy. All this over a pet and a girl. As he recalled, Dustin kept the thing to impress her.

"If it means keeping us in one piece." he muttered dryly as the thing slowly came forward. He did not have a good feeling about this, especially the way Dustin kept waving around that piece of meat.

The most interesting thing about him is how he DEVELOPS and erasing that by saying ‘erm actually he only stood there while others did awful things so he wasn’t that bad’ wouldve made him a worse character if it was true.

Some people hate nuanced characters and it shows. he can be a bad person before and be an amazing one later the whole point is that he changes

In s1 he

-laughs at the concept of Jonathon killing will

-calls Jonathan a slur and says that him and his 2 days dead (as far as he knows) younger brother was a screw up and waste of space

-instead of communicating with Nancy healthily he watches his friend call her a slut on a godamn billboard

-shows zero concern for Barb and is more worried about the fact that they were drinking being included in the story.

he’s a bully, not a truly malicious one who is actively trying to consciously cause damage but one who finds enjoyment in being accepted by those who do. A terrifyingly realistic one who if you asked him in a vaccum if those actions he committed were wrong would say yes but due to social pressure will not in the real world BUT he changes in one of my favourite character arcs as makes up for it and becomes a great person who does all he can to correct his past

I also hate people who still think that Steve is an awful person who doesn’t deserve a happy ending because he literally has a moment to parralel and fix each of his mistakes and it’s really well done

-he’s encouraging to Robin when she comes out and super respectful showing he isn’t homophobic anymore and would be genuinely disgusted by anyone using a slur like he did in s1

-he helps will and all of his friends do stupid stuff like get into movies for free, risking his job to do so. He’d kick the ass of anyone who hurts them like his old self would’ve allowed and he does with Billy

-finally released his need to be popular by giving a fuck you to Tommy and carol and never looking back

-constantly puts his life on the line to protect others he barely knows (like Erica and in s2 Lucas, Dustin and max plus Eddie in s4) showing how he isn’t self absorbed anymore and in fact has overcorrected because of his guilt into a self sacrificing protector.

TLDR: Steve was a bully but he isn’t anymore and arguing otherwise disregards so much of the importance of his character to the story, he has more than made up for his actions and I love him for it.
