Late bloomers were rare, especially ones meant to be Omegas. Itachi is rarer still – not just a late bloomer, but a Null, someone who’s designation was obvious, and yet he never presented. “No,” Karu says, squeezing his eyes shut tight. He knows what it is. As much chemistry as he and Shinsou had, it’s evident from what he hears from their friends over the next few weeks that Shinsou’s life has for the most part gone back to normal. His relationships have become more honest, but they haven't changed. And Shinsou doesn’t reach back out.

“Do you wish he would?” Kirishima asks, a few nights later as they walk back from the gym together.

“I guess, yeah,” Katsuki says, shoving his hands in his sweatpants pockets. “It makes me feel shitty too because really I want to do another scene together but...that doesn’t really make me any different from other people, you know?”

It’s not the first time he’s said it tonight, or even the second, and Katsuki doubts he’ll get any clarity beyond that simple statement. Not knowing what he’s doing is probably Shinsou’s worst fear with the life he’s lived, with the Quirk he has, with the apprehension the average person no doubt treats him with. Still, it’s something he can work with.

“That’s the thing, Shinsou, you don’t have to know,” Katsuki says. “That’s my job. I know what I’m doing tonight, so you don’t have to think about anything because I’m going to take care of it. You don’t have to know anything at all.”

Katsuki can understand that. He spent a long time running from the idea that he deserved better, that he deserved a life that felt safe, that he deserved a chance to be accepted as he was instead of having to earn it. But it gets exhausting eventually. So, maybe Shinsou had wanted to deny it at first, but now that Katsuki’s giving him the opportunity to be honest, perhaps he’s reconsidering.

“I’m not a switch,” Shinsou says. “People just assumed I was a Dom because of my Quirk, and I didn’t correct them. And then the war happened and people needed support and I’m good at things like that, I like that I can do things like that, so I just let them keep making those assumptions and helped how I could.”

The information jars like an alarm inside him. Katsuki doesn’t even know where to begin – the fact that Shinsou’s a sub with more kink licenses than a Dom, the fact that he let everyone think he’s a Dom, the fact that he’s satisfied people as a Dom despite not being one, it’s just too much all at once.
